Matt Lilley, CEO of Prudential Africa, said: “Today’s announcement is an important milestone for Prudential and represents our first step towards the creation of a new business in East Africa. Kenya is a great place to do business and we would like to thank the National Treasury and the Insurance Regulatory Authority for supporting this investment. We now look forward to working with our new colleagues at Shield to create one of Kenya’s leading life insurers, generating jobs and serving our customers.

“The life insurance market is growing at 20 per cent every year, but our sector still represents a tiny fraction of Kenya’s rapidly expanding economy. Therefore, we see exciting opportunities to enable many more families to protect themselves against life’s misfortunes and save for long-term aspirations, such as education and retirement.”
