Tanzania’s Informal Sector Worker Union has launched Dau-Pesa, a money transfer and payment service to help users pay for services and utilities easily and as well send mobile money to their friends and family.

According to Dr Dauda Salmin, the Director for Dau-Pesa: “Customers can make Dau-Pesa transactions using their phones. Those using Vodacom, Tigo, Airtel, and Zantel networks can dial *150*47# and follow instructions to use the service.

With a partnership with Tanzania Women’s Bank and Covenant Bank, users can also use Dau-Pesa to pay for transactions at Point of Sale (POS) terminals. Users can also get a Dau-Pesa card to use as a prepaid card to pay their bills in Tanzania, Kenya and Rwanda at the moment.

Services already using the platform include DSTV, Zuku, Dar es salaam Water and Sewerage Corporation (Dawasco) and Luku (electricity tokens) among others.
