CEO Weekends: Airtel Appoints New MD for DRC

airtel-new-logo-hori Airtel has appointed  Alain Kahasha, an experienced telecommunications veteran, as the Managing Director for The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), effective November 15, 2014.

Alain moved to DRC as the Chief Operating Officer at the beginning of October 2014 had been the Managing Director for Airtel Niger since July 2010.

Armed with an Electrical Engineering Degree from Ecole des Sciences Appliquées de Mons and Master’s Degree in Telecommunication – Mons, Belgium, Alain will report into Christian de Faria, the CEO for Airtel Africa, and will be responsible for the transformation and turn-around of the business in one of Africa’s largest markets.

Speaking on the appointment, Airtel Africa CEO Mr. Christian de Faria said “Alain replaces Louis Lubala who will be leaving the company to pursue personal interests. During his tenure as MD for the DRC, Louis has worked hard to stabilize the business by refreshing our systems and processes and spent quality time strengthening the relationships with our external stakeholders. Please join me in congratulating Alain on this appointment and in thanking Louis for his contribution to the business.”

Alain is not new at Airtel, he has been working with the organization since 2006, having started as Sales & Distribution Director until June 2008 and then as Sales and Distribution Director / ZAIN Gabon between June 2008 and July 2010 before the Niger MD role. Before joining Airtel, he had worked in various commercial and technical roles at the Coca-Cola Company and British American Tobacco and Vodacom in DRC.
