In colorful event in Nairobi, OPPO launched the F5, as it is with all F series devices, the selfie camera was the major highlight. However, this time round, OPPO went ahead to enhance other features of the F5 as well.
First off, 20MP f/2.0 front camera comes with A.I beauty selfie mode, a groundbreaking technology that truly makes the device a leader in photography. The mode uses artificial intelligence to determine your the skin type, skin color, gender and age then uses this information against a global database of selfies to come up with a real and natural look for you. The selfie also takes beautiful portrait mode images even in low light, something that other phones only manage in bright light areas. The rear camera has 16MP f/1.8 wide aperture that excels in both bright and low lit scenarios.
The second highlight was the 6 inch full screen display. It has almost similar dimensions with the OPPO F3 which was a 5.5 inch display, the company was able to achieve a bigger screen in a similar body due to the very tiny bezels around the display.
You can get the full specifications of the OPPO F5 here which include a 4GB RAM and 32GB base storage that will run smoothly on the energy efficient Octa core Mediatek Helio P23. The skin is now Color OS 3.2 which is based on android 7.1, which means that you will get split-screen multitasking, quick replies on the notification shade and eye protection mode among other great features. O-Share app will come pre-installed, it will let users transfer files 100 times faster than Bluetooth.
Quick hands on with the A.I Beauty Selfie Mode
I had the privilege of testing this mode and come out genuinely impressed. The 20MP selfie camera was able to recognize my face and make it bright and natural in all light scenarios. It was amazing to see the camera make a make out a vivid and very detailed selfie even when I was standing in front of a bright light source, a scenario that challenges most selfie shooters out there. Even in low light, the selfie still excelled; it truly is a ground breaking technology that we will sure explore more in our in depth review once we get a testing unit. I also realized that the rear camera had very saturated photos, greens really pop. These cameras are one of those things that you have to try out to see what all the fuss is about. Luckily the device will be in stores soon and customers can have their hands-on experience.
