Figma has evidently been taking Africa seriously for a while, given how the expansion into the continent all went. Africa lead for Figma spoke about the whole African project in this article. As promised, there’s much more for the continent.
The online based web designing tool invites Designers and developers/coders, in collaboration with GitHub, to participate in the Figma & GitHub Hackathon 2018. The hackathon allows participants to compete and collaborate as members of a team to come up with an idea and turn it into a functioning prototype. To be a participant, you should use Figma & Github tools.
About the Hackathon
The hackathon is themed “Design, Develop, Collaborate”, and is firmly based on a fact that software is taking over every aspect of our lives, and while tech gains strength, within technology, design specifically is growing even faster. They believe that a collaboration between software engineers and designers would be nothing less of productive. So, the hackathon will be an energetic and highly rewarding event where teams consisting designers and developers/coders collaborate on project ideas.
Every team is required to create software solutions in one or more of the following areas: Education, Healthcare, Energy Shortages, Food Shortages and Unemployment. According to Figma, these areas represent some of the most pervasive problems and opportunities on our continent (and the world).
Teams are allowed, without limit, to build a product that solves a tech, social, economic or environmental problem and positively impacts your local community. There are amazing prizes and swag, but the Grand Prize for the Hackathon will be awarded to the project team that is most innovative, while also demonstrating how an actively collaborative product team brings positive change.
