Vivo likes to experiment with non-traditional devices. This time she patented the design of a smartphone with a built-in drone.
The device depicted on the patent looks at first glance like a typical smartphone. It has a reasonably large display in front, while on the right side, it has placed volume buttons and a power button. However, there is a slide-out slot at the bottom of the phone, which hides a small drone in it. The latter is equipped with four propellers, two cameras, and infrared sensors. It will probably be controlled using a smartphone.
A smartphone with a built-in drone has both advantages and disadvantages
Such a gadget has its advantages and disadvantages. A device made based on this patent would, first of all, be very specialized, and only a small group of people used it. It could please photographers who like to use drones to capture exciting photos but do not want to carry a large and heavy drone. Thanks to its compact size, the device would be ideal for trips, and there would probably be no problem even with its recharging since it would be charged using a smartphone.
As for the disadvantages, this drone would have to be small and light to fit into the body of a smartphone. The lighter its body, the more susceptible the drone is to wind and the more complex control. On the contrary, the smartphone would probably have to be thicker and heavier, and Vivo would have to make some compromises in the device’s hardware.
However, we must not forget that this is just a patent, and a smartphone with a drone, perhaps, will never be introduced. And even if it were, it would serve more as an exciting novelty that Vivo can boast of, and not as the future of smartphones.
