With the Magic3 and the Magic3 Pro, the former Huawei subsidiary Honor today presented the first flagship developed in the post-Huawei era. The new flagships offer impressive cameras and the most curved display in the world.
In case you missed the live stream, watch down below:
The Honor Magic3 series uses a 6.76-inch display that is curved to 89 degrees to the sides, making Honor the most curved screen globally. The OLED display offers a frame rate of 120 Hz. The DCI-P3 colour space can be fully displayed. The case of the flagships is certified to IP68, so the smartphones are waterproof at a depth of up to 1.5 meters.
The back is available in either” Blue Hour “(dark blue) or” Golden Hour ” (orange) – colours inspired by the sunrise, with variants in white and black also available. On the back of the Magic3 and Magic3 Pro, you will also find the unusual, gigantic camera module consisting of three circles.
The Honor Magic3 and Magic3 Pro offer several exciting cameras, including a 50-megapixel f/1.9 primary camera, which relies on a 1/1.56 inch Sony IMX766 sensor. There is also a 64 MP f/1.8 monochrome camera, a 13 MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle camera and laser autofocus. The Honor Magic3 Pro also has a ToF sensor and a 64 MP f / 3.5 periscope zoom camera with optical image stabilization and a 1/2 inch sensor-significantly larger than most of the competition’s periscope zooms.
This offers a focal length of 90 mm (35mm equivalent), i.e. a 3.5 x optical zoom. With digital magnification, the Magic3 Pro comes to 100 x zoom. A pill-shaped punch hole houses the ultra-wide-angle front camera and a 3D depth camera, enabling the secure unlocking of the smartphone via facial recognition. Thanks to Attention Awareness, the display is never dimmed while the user actively views it: magic log and audio zoom promise first-class video recordings.
The brand new Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+, whose ARM Cortex-X1 processor core is 5.6 per cent faster than the regular Snapdragon 888, should ensure the best possible performance. The performance when calculating AI tasks even increases by 20 percent. Compared to the Apple iPhone 12 Pro (about 1.040 Euro on Amazon), the Honor Magic3 should respond 12,6 percent faster.
Even the gaming performance should surpass that of the iPhone 12 Pro. With Genshin Impact, Honor speaks of an 11 percent higher frame rate. According to Honour, after 36 months of use, performance drops only 3.8 percent, instead of 36.6 percent for an average Android smartphone. Thanks to some optimizations, the Magic3 Pro with 8 GB RAM can simultaneously keep up to 19 apps in memory. A “hexagonal graphene” heat sink should keep the temperatures under control even under continuous load.
Honor combines Wi-Fi 6 with a built-in 5G modem to achieve download speeds of up to 6.1 Gbps. The battery holds 4,600 mAh, can be charged either via USB-C with up to 66 watts or wirelessly with a maximum of 50 watts. The Magic3 series offers stereo speakers, including support for DTS: X. The Honor Magic3 comes with Magic UI based on Android. The software provides a few exciting animations. For example, the always-on display shows a polar bear on an iceberg if desired, which melts the emptier battery of the smartphone.
In addition to the Magic3 and Magic3 Pro, Honor has also unveiled a brand new Magic3 Pro+, which relies on a ceramic back and a display with a “Nano Crystal”coating, making the device significantly more scratch-resistant and insensitive to falls. The unusual look of the back is achieved by laser engraving.
The Magic3 Pro + also offers some technical upgrades, especially for the cameras, because the primary camera relies on the larger Sony IMX700 sensor in the 1/1.28 inch sensor. The device is equipped with an additional sensor that should guarantee the most accurate white balance. The ultra-wide-angle camera is equipped with a 64 MP sensor in 1/2 inch format. The 35mm equivalent focal length of 11 mm allows an even larger angle of view than the Magic3 Pro. Together with the 64 MP monochrome camera, the Magic3 Pro+ offers four high-resolution cameras with large sensors.
