Huawei has announced the top 20 apps that have been shortlisted for the Huawei HMS App Innovation Contest (Apps UP) event. The competition received over 2,000 submissions from developers in the region and around the world for the 2021 edition.
The 20 regionally shortlisted apps this year represent some of the Middle East and Africa’s most innovative developers and coders across multiple categories.
The top 20 regional shortlisted apps were chosen for their innovation, social value, business value, and overall user experience.
The following are among the entries that have been shortlisted:

- Blind Assistant
- Emergency Buddy
- Handyman Calculator
- K53 APP
- Mobile Gamepad
- Quran University
- Scary Teacher 3D
- Sleep Sounds
- Real Car Race Game 3D
- The Muslim Diar
On the competition’s website, the public can now vote for their favorite applications. The voting period ends on October 10, 2021. Each email ID may vote ten times per day, with a maximum of three votes per app. The public vote will account for 20% of the final results, while the judges’ votes will account for 80%.

The quality of the submissions reaffirms our belief that the regional developer community possesses the knowledge, desire, and potential to address societal challenges and create scalable solutions that the world requires today.”
The Huawei HMS App Innovation Contest (Apps UP) 2021 lasted more than 100 days and included over 200 countries and regions such as China, Asia-Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America. Over 4,000 teams competed globally, with over 600 teams applying for the Tech Women’s Award category, the competition’s newest addition that aims to recognize outstanding women in technology.
Best App, Best Game, Best Social Impact App, Excellent Student Award, Best HMS Core Innovation Award, Honorable Mention, and All-Scenario Coverage Award are also included in Apps UP 2021.
The contest includes a cash prize of Ksh. 22 million (USD 200,000) for each of the five participating regions, totaling Ksh. 110.5 million (USD 1 million in total).
During the public review stage, which runs until October 10th, the public and contest fans can use THIS LINK to vote for apps and enter a lucky draw to win exclusive prizes. The winners will be revealed in October.
