Safaricom has launched a promotion to reward entrepreneurs who use the Lipa na M-Pesa and Pochi la Biashara services. According to the telco, more than 400,000 businesses now accept Lipa na M-Pesa payments, up from 170,000 in March 2020, with 2 million small businesses using Pochi La Biashara.
As part of the promotion, all businesses on Pochi La Biashara and Lipa Na MPESA Business Till will earn 1 point for every transaction of Ksh. 50 or more received or paid out over the next 8 weeks.
The points will entitle business owners to weekly drawings for a variety of prizes. These include one of 128 tuk-tuks, monthly draws for one of 16 Isuzu DMAX pickups, and the grand prize draw for one of eight Fuso canters.
The promotion will take place in eight regions: Nairobi, Coast, North Eastern, Eastern, Rift, Western, Nyanza, and Mt. Kenya. Each region will receive two tuk-tuks every week, one pickup every four weeks, and one truck at the grand finale.
All Pochi La Biashara business owners can also exchange their points for cash at a rate of Ksh. 1 per point. In addition, for the first three qualifying transactions, all business owners will receive up to 6 minutes of talk time per day.
According to Safaricom, over 400,000 businesses accept Lipa Na MPESA payments, up from 170,000 in March 2020, with an additional 2 million small businesses using the Pochi La Biashara service.
The MPESA Business Till, the MPESA Business Super App, and Pochi La Biashara are all MPESA payment services.
The MPESA Business Till allows business owners to use their Lipa Na M-PESA collections to make payments and send money to other MPESA Tills, among other things. Business owners can also withdraw funds to a bank account or transfer funds to an agent.
The MPESA Business Super App gives entrepreneurs a real-time overview of money coming in and out of their business. They can also make payments using the super app’s Business Till feature.
Pochi La Biashara is aimed at small businesses that accept payments via the M-PESA “Send Money” option. This allows business owners to keep their business collections separate from their funds.”Medium-sized and small businesses are the backbone of Kenya’s economy, accounting for one-third of total economic output and employing the vast majority of Kenyans.” As a result, through our Biashara ni Lipa Na MPESA promotion, we are celebrating and rewarding all business owners who accept Lipa Na MPESA and Pochi La Biashara payments,” said Peter Ndegwa, CEO – Safaricom.
