Bosta, an Egyptian logistics and last-mile delivery startup, will launch in South Africa and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 2022.
This move follows the startup’s $6.7 million Series A funding round, which was led by Silicon Badia and included other local and global investors.
Bosta also announced a new partnership with Family Corporation, which specializes in mobility and transportation. This partnership will enable the Egyptian startup to expand its own fleet of vehicles, allowing it to complete deliveries in Egypt more efficiently.
Bosta, co-founded by Ahmed Gaber and Mohamed Ezat in 2017, aims to fill in existing gaps in the retail supply chain in the North African region with its end-to-end last-mile logistics solution.
Currently, the company delivers 20,000 shipments in a day on average, with an aim of 100,000 deliveries per day by 2022. By the end of next year, the startup expects to have delivered 15 million parcels.
The pandemic-led desire for online shopping has fueled huge growth in the local e-commerce market. According to RedSeer research, e-commerce accounts for only 2.5 percent of overall retail spending in the Middle East and North Africa.
