Several of you may have noticed that some Airtel services were unavailable.
Given that customers are often used to service outages from other carriers, this is one of the rare occasions when this issue has hit Kenya’s second-largest telco.

According to a statement issued by Airtel Kenya,“We are pleased to inform you that the technical issue that affected our applications has been resolved and services are restored. You can now access Airtel Money, our shortcodes, and our Airtel App. Thank you for your patience.”

It is also worth noting that the problem was not communicated, and no specific reason for the disruption was provided.

Airtel Kenya has officially stated that the outage has been resolved, and consumers can now access services such as Airtel Money, shortcodes, and the Airtel App.

To be clear, Airtel Money clients can now utilize Safaricom’s Buy Goods services after the CBK lobbied for the change, which aims to increase mobile money usage from other networks. This is also part of the interoperability journey, which began more than four years ago but has slowed due to Safaricom’s dominance in the mobile money industry. The latter has a 99 percent market share in mobile money services and has not faced any competition.
