The “Xiaomi Book S,” Xiaomi’s first 2-in-1 laptop, has been released. The new hybrid computer from Xiaomi aims to compete with Apple and Microsoft by offering a mobile, self-sufficient product.

Let’s go to the point: the Xiaomi Book S boasts a 12.4-inch IPS 16:10 touch screen with a resolution of 244 PPI and a definition of 2,560 x 1,600 pixels. However, the refresh rate is still restricted to 60 Hz. The panel covers one hundred percent of the sRGB color space, which has a maximum brightness of 500 cd/m2. The meeting point is the Xiaomi Smart Pen compatibility (sold separately).

Last, Xiaomi’s hybrid weighs 720 grams and measures 294 x 197 x 8.95 mm. The 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pros weigh 466 and 622 grams, respectively, as a point of comparison.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 is the ARM processor Xiaomi chose to power its Book S. This chip was created in 7 nm. However, it has been in the market since September 2020. Additionally, the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 that would succeed debuted towards the end of 2021. The Gen 2 chip mobilizes 8 CPU cores (4 Kryo 495 Gold Cortex-A76 and 4 Kryo 495 Cortex-A55) and an Adreno 680 GPU.

The Snapdragon SoC is supported here by 8 GB of LPDDR4X memory. For storage, we find a 256 GB SSD. The 2-in-1 computer has a pair of 2 W speakers and two microphones. The photo/video part inherits a 13 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front camera. Note that Xiaomi has left out the cellular modem: connectivity is limited to Wi-Fi 5 / Bluetooth 5.1.

As for autonomy, Xiaomi promises 13.4 hours thanks to a 38 Wh battery, a duration that remains subject to caution. Charging is carried out thanks to a 65 W block.

The Book S is only available in one color, dark gray. It will be marketed in Europe from June 30 for 699.99 euros. This price does not include the Xiaomi Book S 12.4″ keyboard, sold separately. Getting it increases the bill by 149.99 euros, making the set significantly less attractive.
