Volkswagen has revealed the sedan that will fill in for the Passat, it goes by the name ID Aero. The ID name is usually reserved for the company’s family of electric vehicles.

The new ID Aero is a development of the ID Vizzion from 2018, and it is still labelled as a concept car. However, it’s now being presented in a closer-to-production form with an impressively low drag coefficient of 0.23. The sleek body will help the electric sedan cover up to 385 miles (620 kilometers) in the WLTP cycle metric of Europe.

The design is over 16.4 feet (5 meters) long, which, when combined with a flat floor, should result in a roomy cabin. The electric sedan will ride on the MEB platform and will reportedly be the ID. brand’s flagship vehicle.

VW had also unveiled a wagon version of the original concept. Dubbed ID Space Vizzion, the long-roof EV was shown in 2019 as a more practical alternative on the midsize car. However, it’s unclear whether the wagon version will spawn a production model for those who prefer the extra versatility but don’t necessarily want an SUV.
It is expected that the production version of the ID. AERO for Europe will roll off the assembly line in the Emden plant in 2023
