Since iOS 17, Apple has been adding new features to its well-liked AirPods Pro iPhone attachment. For a better listening experience, you may turn on AirPods Pro Conversation Awareness.

This function lets you keep using your AirPods while conversing with someone without turning down the volume of your music. It also lessens background noise during discussions and improves the voices in front of you.

We’ll thus walk you through using the enhanced feature if you want a more practical approach to communicating with others without taking out your AirPods.

The Pro Conversation Awareness Feature of AirPods

As soon as your iOS device and AirPods Pro detect that you are speaking, Apple’s Conversation Awareness function automatically reduces the volume of the music you are listening to and disables noise cancellation.

Additionally, by enhancing voices and reducing background noise, your AirPods Pro will improve the audio quality of your conversation. It’s a convenient function to have, for instance, while shopping or at work.

To Make Conversational Awareness Possible

In your ears, place your AirPods.

To access Control Center, swipe down from the upper-right corner of the screen.

Press and maintain the Volume Slider.

Press the Conversation Awareness button located at the bottom of the screen once the volume controls appear.

As soon as you activate it and begin speaking, you’ll notice that the audio level decreases. When you have the noise cancellation option activated, you’ll notice a noticeable difference.

Turning on or off conversation awareness from settings

As an alternative, you can use the AirPods settings to explicitly enable and disable the Conversation Awareness feature.

Your iPhone’s Settings should open.

Touch the AirPods Pro icon on the menu.

Navigate to the Audio area by swiping down the screen, then turn on or off Conversation Awareness.

Using Awareness in Conversation

When you turn on Conversation Awareness for the first time, Siri in your AirPods will inform you that the volume was reduced while you were speaking.

The level will stay low so you can hear the other person’s response while you are speaking and for a brief while after. When you finish speaking, the audio will play back at normal volume.

Of course, you can just touch it a few times to disable the feature if you find it unnecessary. Toggle off the Conversation Awareness button located at the bottom of the Control Center by opening it and long-pressing the volume slider.

Better Audio Features from AirPods Pro

Conversation Awareness is helpful while listening to music or podcasts when you need to converse with someone.

You don’t have to remove your AirPods out of your ears or manually reduce the volume when it’s switched on. There will be an improvement in the person you’re conversing with and less annoying background noise.

However, the feature will reduce the level if you frequently sing along to your music or start talking back at a podcast, which can occasionally be annoying. Therefore, you may want to turn it off in those circumstances.

It’s also crucial to note that the music you were listening to will resume at its previous volume after you finish your talk.
