iONLINE, a global provider of Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity solutions, has teamed up with eSIM specialist Workz to assist businesses in addressing connectivity challenges and the increasing need for sustainability.
This collaboration has led to the development of an advanced hybrid eSIM solution that offers remote online and offline network switching capabilities.
Managing connected assets while they’re on the move presents various challenges for companies. These include encountering expensive roaming charges when moving outside subscribed coverage zones and experiencing signal loss in weak or low coverage areas.
“This diminishes device visibility and hampers businesses’ ability to carry out essential tasks. Moreover, handling these changes demands dedicated resources, potentially straining operational efficiency.”
The solution aids businesses in reducing operational costs and preventing service disruptions by automating network switching as conditions change. The eSIM component facilitates on-demand network selection, liberating companies from being restricted to the network options assigned to the SIM during manufacture.
Furthermore, this offering presents an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional SIMs. It incorporates custom-sized modules that use 50% less plastic and features rewritable eSIM technology, enabling remote network updates and eliminating the necessity for physical card replacement.
iONLINE, through its global private network, delivers secure, high-speed connectivity in over 189 countries across more than 700 carrier networks.
FlexiSIM, the outcome of iONLINE’s collaboration with Workz, originated from the first cloud eSIM platform and now serves over 100 telcos worldwide.
Initially launched in South Africa and the United Kingdom in 2023, it is slated for release in the United States later this year.
Companies benefiting from this solution include Fujifilm, AIoTSense, BrightBlue, Trellis Works, Online Direct, and Amber Group.
Fidelity ADT, South Africa’s largest security services provider to medium and large-scale enterprises, employs thousands of FlexiSIM cards daily to maintain connectivity and protect various infrastructure types.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of iONLINE,David Farquharson, mentioned approaching multiple SIM manufacturers during the initial exploration phase but found none offering the desired flexibility for the product.
“Workz was uniquely positioned to assist us in developing customized solutions to meet our clients’ needs. In them, we found a supplier and like-minded ally to realize our global IoT vision. Workz’s commitment, innovation, and collaborative approach align closely with our values at iONLINE. Their SIMs are manufactured on-site with sustainability in mind, ensuring minimal environmental impact.”
On his part, Robert Varty, Workz CSO, added, “We enjoyed collaborating with iONLINE on this project. Their openness to embracing new technology encouraged us to push boundaries. It’s rewarding to witness companies leveraging our technology to safeguard their assets, respond swiftly to situations, and enhance business visibility. This partnership serves as a catalyst for both of us as we continue to empower businesses to gain a competitive edge from IoT.”
