Recently, many African countries have experienced internet outages resulting from submarine cable tampering in the Ivory Coast, reports have indicated.

For instance, major internet service providers in Ivory Coast, namely Orange CI and MTN, reported significant disruptions in their services.

However, Moov Africa continues to provide internet services unaffected by the reported outages.

“The cause of the disruption has been pinpointed to a cable cut in the vicinity of Abidjan, Ivory Coast,” AtlasNews reported.

Several nations in West and Central Africa have been grappling with widespread internet outages, as initially reported by NetBlocks.

Local African media initially attributed the outage to a submarine cable being severed off the coast of Ivory Coast.

Reports of banking failures emerged from Nigeria, Ivory Coast, and Ghana, amidst the ongoing internet disruptions.

The disruptions are believed to have impacted banking services in these countries.

Microsoft Azure reported severe network latencies, particularly in South Africa and the “West Regions,” likely referring to West African states affected by the ongoing internet disruptions.

“Microsoft 365 services experienced significant degradation for users in the EMEA region, prompting Microsoft to initiate an investigation into the matter.”

Cloudflare, a leading internet security and performance company, also reported major disruptions in Gambia, Guinea, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Benin, and Niger.

The disruptions are believed to be linked to the widespread internet outages affecting the region.

In addition, the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications attributed the ongoing internet outages to undersea cables, although it did not specify if any cables had been cut.

Thousands of users in South Africa also have recently reported experiencing issues related to the disruptions.

As of the latest update, NetBlocks continues to observe severe internet disruptions in the countries affected by the ongoing outages.

The situation remains unresolved as efforts to restore normalcy are underway.
