Applications Open for KCIC GreenBiz Programme

The Kenya Climate Innovation Center (KCIC), in partnership with the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA), is offering support to innovative businesses focused on climate solutions through the GreenBiz Programme.

Applications are open until April 15th, 2024.

Focus on Green Jobs and Sustainability

The GreenBiz Programme aims to empower 60 climate-tech enterprises across five key areas: renewable energy and energy efficiency, water management, agribusiness, commercial forestry, and waste management.

The initiative seeks to create over 3,000 green jobs while promoting sustainable development in Kenya.

Two Programs Available

GreenBiz offers support through two tracks: the Incubation Programme and the Accelerator Programme.

Incubation Programme: This 12-month program targets early-stage businesses with prototypes. It provides intensive training and coaching to help them validate their concepts and progress towards commercialization.

Accelerator Programme: This 12-month program caters to established businesses with proven models. It offers personalized services designed to accelerate growth and prepare them to attract investment.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

Businesses applying to the GreenBiz Programme must be registered in Kenya and demonstrate a positive impact on climate change through mitigation, adaptation, or environmental benefits.

They will be evaluated based on scalability, climate impact, job creation potential, progress to date, innovation, revenue potential, and entrepreneur commitment.

Successful applicants will receive a comprehensive package of support including:

Business advisory: Training on entrepreneurship, business modeling, financial literacy, and investor readiness.

Mentorship and coaching: Guidance from experienced professionals to develop specific skills and knowledge.

Access to information: Connection to relevant resources, networks, and market opportunities.

Enabling environment: Facilitation of participation in industry events and policy dialogues.

Access to facilities: Use of co-working spaces and prototyping facilities.

Financial support: Needs-based financial assistance after a three-month onboarding period.

External financing assistance: Support in accessing debt, grants, and equity investments.
