Safaricom’s M-Pesa has once again been granted re-certification by the GSM Association, a testament to the company’s unwavering commitment to delivering secure, transparent, and reliable financial services.

Initially awarded this prestigious accreditation in 2018, M-Pesa has consistently maintained its status as a leader in the mobile money industry.

The GSMA Mobile Money Certification is a globally recognized standard designed to safeguard the integrity and robustness of mobile financial services.

Certified providers must adhere to stringent principles that protect customer funds, safeguard personal data, prioritize system security, maintain transparent fee structures, and deliver exceptional customer service, including efficient complaint resolution.

This certification underscores M-Pesa’s dedication to combating financial crimes such as money laundering and fraud.

The renewed certification not only reinforces consumer confidence in M-Pesa but also paves the way for stronger partnerships within the industry.

With a staggering 690 million registered accounts worldwide, mobile money services are making a significant impact on financial inclusion and improving lives across the globe.

Safaricom CEO, Peter Ndegwa, expressed his pride in M-Pesa’s contribution to driving financial inclusion in Kenya and the broader region.

“This certification is a testament to our unwavering commitment to safeguarding customer funds, upholding their rights through our business practices, and delivering exceptional customer service,” he said.

Mr Ndegwa further emphasized, “This certification signifies our industry-leading business practices, our dedication to providing a secure, transparent, and reliable mobile money service, and our position as a trustworthy and responsible financial service provider. It positions us as an attractive partner for innovators and the business community.”

M-Pesa has been instrumental in shaping Kenya’s financial landscape and has gained global recognition over the past decade.

Currently boasting 31.5 million active users, M-Pesa facilitates over Ksh 40.2 trillion in transactions annually, as of March 2024.
