YEBO, a new encrypted file-sharing tool built by SemaBOX Africa specifically for African creators, filmmakers, and businesses, has officially been launched.
Built on Mozilla’s open-source foundation, YEBO has been re-engineered to reflect the local realities of African creators, businesses, and digital storytellers.
“We’re bringing back full ownership and control to African creators,” said the SemaBOX Africa team. “For too long, we’ve relied on global platforms that don’t prioritize our privacy or our intellectual property. YEBO changes that, it’s secure, simple, and built for us.”
SemaBOX is a specialist podcast studio based in Nairobi and also Africa’s biggest podcast incubator. The studio provides technology and production capacity for podcast-making and storytelling for African creators, and creators focusing on stories about Africa.
SemabOX HQ is located in Nairobi but is active in 6 African countries with a creator network of over 400 titles.
YEBO allows users to upload and send video, audio, or any other file format instantly via email, WhatsApp, or QR code.
Every transfer is fully encrypted, ensuring that users maintain ownership and privacy of their content.
Files shared on the platform are never used to train AI models and can be further protected with passwords, download limits, or expiration dates.
The platform promises users free transfers of up to 2.5GB, with paid tiers coming soon for larger file sizes and professional users.
