Nigeria’s Plentywaka raises funding from TechStars, launches in Toronto, Canada

Plentywaka, Nigeria’s bus-hailing startup has raised funding from Techstars is set to launch in Toronto, Canada as part of its global expansion plans.

In a statement, Co-Founder and CEO, Onyeka Akumah said, “We are very excited about this new investment to partner with Techstars. This is the second time a startup I founded will go through a Techstars accelerator program in Toronto and we are truly happy they have believed in our ability again to execute.”

Plentywaka will join the Techstars Toronto program to gain further funding, mentorship, and access to a rich network of entrepreneurs and experts in the travel industry. Plentywaka is also starting to expand globally to other countries, starting with a city in Canada on or before the fourth quarter of 2021.

Plentywaka is launching an Interstate travel service where commuters can now purchase bus tickets from a variety of bus travel companies using the Plentywaka mobile App.

300,000+ commuters

Over the last 18months, Plentywaka has moved 300,000+ commuters through their daily commute across three states in Nigeria. Last year, it raised a seed funding of $300,000 from Microtraction, Niche Capital, and EMFATO and a partnered with Innoson Vehicles Manufacturing, Nigeria’s first indigenous automotive manufacturer.

The Plentywaka City to city service helps commuters purchase the best bus travel ticket deals while choosing from a variety of bus transportation companies listed on the Plentywaka mobile app. The firm partnered with Libra Motors, one of the top bus travel companies in Nigeria, and 4 other players with a combined capacity of 300+ buses, moving Nigerians across 100 routes in Nigeria.

City-to-City bus service

With the new funding from Techstars, Plentywaka aims to help commuters in Toronto to get the opportunity to use the In-City bus service for their daily commute and the City-to-City bus service to buy tickets for longer interstate travels.
