LG launches wearable device for tracking school kids

Electronics giant LG Electronics unveiled a new wearable designed for children dubbed the LG Kizon on Tuesday.  The device is intended for parents who want to keep a closer eye on their kids remotely.LG wearable tracking device

LG Kizon, a water-resistant polythiourethane wristband, comes with kiddy accessory features such as a Hello Kitty cover. It is available in bright colors. The design fits small wrists of children in primary and pre-school. The device allows parents to track their kids with Wi-Fi and GPS. They also get to receive notifications about their children’s whereabouts through a tablet or smartphone.

Other than the monitoring functionality, Kizon also enables parents to communicate with their children through a “One Step Direct Call” button. If a child fails to respond when called, Kizon automatically connects the call allowing the parent to listen to what is happening at the background.

Over the past couple of months, LG has introduced a number of other wearable devices. Just last month, the company released LG G Watch, which is fitted with Google’s customized OS called Android Wear for wearable devices. In May, it introduced Heart Rate Earphones and health tracker LG Lifeband Touch.

Kizon is set to go on sale on Thursday in South Korea and will be introduced in Europe and North America in the fall. Although LG is yet to announce when it expects the device to be available in African stores, there are indications it may be introduced before the year closes.
