Armed with a bachelors degree in Computer Engineering and Information Technology, from the Kigali Institute of Science and Technology, Nkurunziza Christophe is building Yubeyi.com, Rwanda’s Amazon on his own!
Launched late last year, Yubeyi.com has only one major aim, to be Rwanda’s largest online mall with a 3-day free return policy and dedicated customer service support.
According to Nkurunziza, “We launched in the end of 2014 and our mission is to become the engine of commerce and trade in Rwanda. We serve a retail customer base that continues to grow exponentially, offering products that span various categories including Phones, Computers, Home Appliances, Books, healthcare, Baby Products, personal care and much more.”
Yubeyi.com is now offering 1-3 days delivery depending on a shoppers’ location and the weight of the goods. The firm is also giving customers 3 days from the day of delivery to return their orders and the cost of return will be refunded after the return has been processed.
A buyer gets an order status and tracking number that lets them track their order through shipping until the items are delivered.
Rocket Internet’s Jumia is yet to launch in Rwanda but it won’t be long before it does and the space for Yubeyi might never be the same. It will either become better or fall of due to competition. However, the market is also huge and the two can work really well together like Nasper’s Kongaa is doing in Nigeria despite the presence of Jumia.
