Julian Assange, founder of the controversial WikiLeaks, will be the headlining speaker at this year’s Net Prophet event 21 May 2014 in Cape Town.
Net Prophet is an annual conference where various experts in technology-inclined fields come together to share their insights, ideas, predictions and advice with the attendees. It is the ideal place for startup companies to find development tools and opportunities.
Julian Assange is the editor-in-Chief of WikiLeaks, which he co-founded in 2006 after an earlier career in hacking and programming. In 2010, WikiLeaks rose to the international stage after it published US military and diplomatic documents which were leaked by Chelsea Manning.
Since then, Assange has been under investigation by the US government.
In 2012, facing extradition to Sweden, Assange took refuge at the Embassy of Ecuador in London. This is where he still finds himself after he was granted political asylum by Ecuador. A live video chat with Julian will be conducted at the event.
“In my role as WikiLeaks editor, I’ve been involved in fighting off many legal attacks,” says Assange, “To do that, and keep our sources safe, we have had to spread assets, encrypt everything, and move telecommunications and people around the world to activate protective laws in different national jurisdictions.”
Joining Assange at Net Prophet are some of the best international minds, speaking on the future of entrepreneurship and online innovation.
