1.2 billion people around the world currently lack access to electricity. Founded by Andreas Lehner and Sam Manaberi, Trine is closing the gap between private capital in developed countries and solar partners in emerging markets by offering an alternative finance solution to off-grid solar projects through a novel crowdfunding model. They bring solar energy to the 1.2 billion people in need of access to electricity and make it easy for people to make a social and environmental impact while also earning a return on investment.

Trine believes in profit with purpose. Their commitment to this principle stems from Trine’s founding goal: ending energy poverty. They realize that in order to end energy poverty, finding a sustainable long-term solution is key.

  • Their customers profit with purpose meaning that they can make an investment and earn a reasonable return while changing lives and helping to save the planet.
  • For local solar partners, it enables them to receive the funding to build a sustainable business. This will allow them to develop a long-term partnership to bring cheap, clean, and reliable energy to their communities.
  • For the end users, it empowers them to invest in their futures. This will allow them to gain access to energy, a cleaner and safer local environment, and a host of new opportunities.

One such project being carried out can be seen in Kitale, Kenya with funding of about Kshs 5,000,000 from 80 investors.

As a customer you can make your contribution by first, finding your project and Investing; through our platform you can find a solar project to invest in and bring solar energy to emerging markets. The project will then get installed, their local solar partner will install and manage the solar installation on the ground. Finally, your investment yields a return; once the project is completed, you get your initial investment plus return back.
