In two years, Apple will have its own 5G modems

Qualcomm, an Apple supplier, and semiconductor expert can continue to offer 100% of all 5G modems for the iPhone. However, the good times are about to end as Apple will have to depend on itself in the next two years entirely. As Qualcomm CFO Akash Palkhiwala states, in 2023, the manufacturer will only supply 20% of the modems to Cupertino.

On the other hand, Apple has been in the process of developing its own 5G modems. As Apple insider Ming-Chi Kuo states, the manufacturer will not be able to function without Qualcomm entirely. For example, for Apple to successfully join the 5G market, it needs first to have a working relationship with Qualcomm.

Apple has been striving for years to have its own 5G modems for quite a while. As you remember, the manufacturer had been working with intel before the whole situation was jeopardized. As a result, apple sought another alternative which is coworking with Qualcomm

It’s worth noting that the iPhone SE will almost certainly get a 5G modem next year. The low-cost smartphone would subsequently be marketed as the lowest 5G iPhone by Apple. Apple will, however, continue to rely on Qualcomm for this, as Apple’s own solutions will not be available until 2023.
