The enhanced cameras of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are among the most significant advancements. According to information on the sensors being used, Apple is reportedly using three new sensors in each of its four flagship cameras.

According to Weibo, the primary camera is upgraded from the Sony IMX703 to the Sony IMX803, and the sensor is increased by a massive 65 percent, from 1/1.7 inches to 1/1.28 inches. However, when images with a resolution of 12 MP are taken using pixel binning, individual pixels still drop from 1.9 m to 1.22 m, yielding an effective pixel edge length of 2.44 m. The maximum aperture is reduced by half an aperture level, from f/1.5 to f/1.8.

The ultra-wide pixel camera is also growing much bigger. The Sony IMX633 has the same 12 MP resolution as the Sony IMX772 in the iPhone 13 Pro, but the new sensor spans 1/2.55 inches instead of 1/3.5 inches, meaning that pixels expand from 1.0 m to 1.4 m. However, even with this camera, the lens’s aperture decreases from f/1.8 to f/2.2, roughly a half-step, which somewhat undermines the benefits of the bigger sensor since the light flow only slightly changes.

The telephoto camera has not been updated; it still uses the Sony IMX714 in 1/3.5-inch format, and the iPhone 13 Pro’s 77 mm f/2.8 lens with optical image stabilization was also used. After all, the front-facing camera on the iPhone updates the Sony IMX714 sensor, which promises to take much better pictures when combined with the brighter f/1.9 lens (instead of f/2.2), which for the first time offers focusing on an iPhone front-facing camera.
