Tech entrepreneur, Elon Musk announced this week that X’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) chatbot, Grok, will be available to all premium subscribers on the social media platform.
Previously, Grok was only accessible to users with the more expensive Premium+ tier.
This move comes just days after xAI, Musk’s AI company, open-sourced its Grok large language model.
While an exact date wasn’t provided, Mr Musk said on X that Grok “will be enabled for all premium subscribers (not just premium+)” later this week.
This expands access to Grok for a wider range of X users.
Previously, only those subscribed to Premium+, which can cost up to $16 per month, could interact with the AI chatbot.
Now, users on the more affordable Premium plan, typically priced around $8 per month, will also have access.
Developed by xAI, Grok was initially launched in early access for X’s Premium+ users in the US back in December 2023.
Grok’s ability to tackle controversial topics and respond to questions outside the boundaries set for most AI chatbots has garnered significant interest. This wider access for X Premium subscribers could significantly boost user engagement with the platform.
This accessibility could appeal to Mr Musk’s followers and frequent X users.
The rollout follows Musk’s commitment to making X less reliant on advertising revenue and focusing on subscriptions.
