Starlink, the satellite internet service operated by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, has officially launched operations in Niger, marking a significant milestone in the country’s push for improved digital connectivity. This move is expected to boost internet penetration in one of West Africa’s most underserved markets.

The launch in Niger comes as part of Starlink’s broader strategy to expand across Africa, targeting regions where traditional broadband infrastructure is limited or non-existent. By leveraging its constellation of low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellites, Starlink aims to deliver high-speed, low-latency internet to both urban and remote areas across Niger.

With this rollout, businesses, schools, government institutions, and households in Niger will now have access to a reliable internet alternative, helping to bridge the digital divide and enhance economic opportunities. Sectors such as education, healthcare, and agriculture are expected to particularly benefit from the improved connectivity.

Starlink’s service is already live in several other African countries, including Nigeria, Kenya, Rwanda, Mozambique, Malawi, Zambia, and Benin. The company has also received regulatory approval to launch in additional markets such as Ghana, Angola, and Tanzania.

Its arrival in Niger is timely, as the government continues to push for greater digital inclusion under its national ICT development strategy.

The service is available for order via Starlink’s official website, with users able to purchase the hardware kit and subscribe to monthly internet plans. The company has also committed to working with local regulators and partners to ensure smooth deployment and compliance with national regulations.

Niger now joins a growing list of African nations harnessing satellite internet to address connectivity gaps, as demand for fast and reliable internet access continues to rise across the continent.
