Volkswagen is set to unveil a first of its kind mobility solution service that is set to disrupt the state of car ownership and use across the world. This service will essentially be a community car sharing method; the pilot service will have close to 150 vehicles and is set to launch in the second quarter of 2018.

This community car sharing will be made available to closed communities such as ministries, companies or embassies. People will book a car using an application, use the cae and return it afterwards.

The mobility solution also provides a ride hailing service with 150 vehicles planned in the medium term. It will operate on a similar model to Uber, the sole differentiating factor being the cars will be owned by the owner.

Volkswagen will launch a public car sharing model with 250 cars, nearing the end of 2018. This will be followed by a shuttle service and afterwards, a peer-to-peer car sharing where car owners can send off their cars for use and earn some money in the process.

The first phase of the investment will see VW pumping in a $20 million investment to facilitate an annual production capacity of 5000 cars, according to the firm’s business plan.
