Snapplify states that it has been watching South Africa’s academic space for some time, all the while developing solutions “aimed specifically to help more schools access eBooks.” The thinking behind the move is that while many students in the country, and other emerging markets, don’t have access to physical textbooks, a lot of learners do have mobile phones or tablets.

Working with publishers Oxford University Press, Pearson and Macmillan, Snapplify’s free eBook store will function as a platform through which teachers and students can purchase eTextbooks, and give access to thousands of eBooks needed for the schooling curriculum.

“eBooks have enabled wider accessibility to textbooks, as well as provided an enhanced learning experience. This includes digital note-taking and highlighting, making for easier revision and study…” says Veronica Napier, Consumer Sales Director of Pearson South Africa.

Snapplify hopes that providing access to a broader catalogue of quality textbooks will see a higher eBook adoption rate in the country while also helping students and teachers alike. Snapplify states that due to the project’s success in South Africa so far it will be able to expand the solution to other emerging markets.
