ZUKU to broadcast live matches of the international Cricket T20

ZUKU commits to broadcast live matches of the international Cricket T20 Zuku quadrangular series to be held in Nairobi, Kenya.

The T20 quadrangular tournament, to take place from September 26-30th, 2016, will feature national teams from Kenya, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Uganda in a quadrangular series.

The matches will be broadcast on Zuku Sports Channel 300 and also via live streaming.

“At Zuku, we are investing in the local sports market to give a cross-section of our customers a wide-range of sporting disciplines to choose from. In addition to Basketball, Rugby and Volleyball, we are now bringing Cricket to your doorsteps as we continue to provide content relevant in the markets where we operate as we continue to develop sports and nurture talent,” said Zuku Satellite TV Managing Director Jay Chudasama.

In the tournament, the Saudi Arabian national team will be making its second visit to Kenya having played in Nairobi last October, while the Qatar will be visiting Kenya for the first time for a cricket series.

“With Zuku TV showing the quadrangular series ‘live’, now all of Kenyans can share in the excitement of a global Cricket event happening on our doorstep,” said Jackie Janmohamed , Chairperson of Cricket Kenya. “It is our mission to make the game more accessible to all. Whether they choose to soak up the atmosphere in the stadium or at a touch of TV button we are sure all fans will be treated to a good show filled with world class cricket action of the highest order.”

Neighbours Uganda will join the two Middle East nations as the fourth side and they will be using the tournament as part of preparations for the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cricket League Division Three tournament.

Saudi Arabia performed admirably on their last visit winning their two Twenty20 matches against the Kenyan national side.

The round-robin quadrangular event will be played in two formats, beginning with the one day series between September 20th – 24th 2016 and followed by the T20 series from September 26th -30th 2016.

Zuku is coming on board as the official broadcast partner of Cricket Kenya tournament following the purchase of broadcast rights and signing off a media partnership.

Under the agreement, Cricket Kenya grants Broadcast Rights to Wananchi Group in order to broadcast the event live. Subject to any third party rights to broadcast the event, Cricket Kenya shall not authorise or otherwise permit (except with the express authority or consent of Wananchi)  the distribution, transmission, retransmission, or broadcast of the event.

Despite the exclusive rights granted to Wananchi Group in terms of the provisions of the exclusivity clause, other parties may be entitled to broadcast highlights of the event subject to the express consent provided that such highlights are broadcasted as genuine and bona fide news broadcasts and that the third parties screen credit as the primary broadcaster.
