Netflix begins experiencing outages due to traffic surge

Yesterday, Netflix users took to social media to express their distress with Netlfix noting that they are experiencing outages. Many users are unable to connect to the streaming services for both mobile, PCs and smart TVs.

At the moment, due to lockdown in most countries. People have resolved to Netflix and other streaming services for entertainment leading to a surge in usage. For instance, there are thousands of fo people under quarantine who are solely depending on these sites to kill boredom.

Netflix through its help centre blog confirmed that  “We are currently experiencing a higher than normal wait time for support via phone and chat. Please try again later or check our online help centre for answers to frequently asked questions. Thank you for your patience.”

Most of the tech companies and gamers are resolving to reduce download speeds for users.

Sony Interactive Entertainment recently opted to reduce gaming video download speeds from its Playstation Network in a bid to lessen online traffic congestion during the coronavirus pandemic.  Millions of people are working from home due to social distancing. In regions where demand is high. Sony will be reducing speed downloads so that everyone can still have access to their favourite video games.

Earlier on, Netflix had also announced some ways it came up with to reduce traffic on the networks by 25 per cent. Following the European Unions request to ensure efficient use of networks.

In Europe, For the next 30 days, we have removed the highest bandwidth streams for each category in Europe. This means, If you tune in any video quality you will notice a very slight decrease in quality within each resolution.
