Netflix, a streaming entertainment service, recently introduced a free program that will allow entertainment fans to enjoy almost all of Netflix’s content on Android mobile phones without paying a subscription fee. The free mobile plan is only available in Kenya and will be gradually rolled out to other regions and countries with time.
The free plan will provide Kenyans with ad-free access to the majority of Netflix’s shows and films, as well as personalized recommendations and parental controls.
“At Netflix, we want everyone to be able to enjoy Blood and Water’s suspense, Bridgerton’s romance, and Army of the Dead’s adventure. “We are now giving audiences in Kenya the opportunity to experience these stories for themselves, completely free of charge,” said Cathy Conk, Netflix’s Director of Product Innovation.
Subscribers enter their email address, confirm they are 18 or older, and create a password to sign up for the service. They will then enjoy personalized recommendations, parental controls, and the ability to create multiple profiles, including one for their children. Members must upgrade to one of Netflix’s paid plans to access the entire catalog on various devices.
Among the popular shows on offer will be the highly anticipated new season of Blood and Water, which will premiere globally on September 24. Among the others are the recently released Nigeria series, King of Boys: Return of the King, and the new season of the Spanish series Money Heist.
Netflix recently launched a mobile-only plan in Kenya at Ksh. 300 per month, in addition to the Basic Plan at Ksh. 700, Value Plan at Ksh. 1,100, and Premium Plan at Ksh. 1,450.
