Twitter is now testing TikTok style videos on its explore page.

It really is getting harder to tell the difference between the major social media platforms, as Twitter is now testing TikTok-style videos on its explore page.

According to a tweet from the official Twitter Support account, Twitter’s explore page is getting a makeover for select users and will be changed to a simplified interface that emphasizes one tweet or video at a time instead of showing a crowded newsfeed. While the tweet doesn’t really explain how it works, it appears to be a vertical-scrolling feed where each media-filled tweet fills up the screen, letting you swipe through them one by one.

Twitter spokesperson said:

“We’re testing out a revamped, more personalized Explore page to make it easier for you to unwind, find new interests and see what’s happening,”

Twitter is just the latest platform to capitalize on the success of TikTok, which is unsurprising as the short-form video app surpassed one billion active users this year. Facebook (now Meta) did it with Reels on Instagram, Pinterest has recently done it on its homepage, and even Spotify is trying to get a cut of the action.

The Twitter Explorer update continues the social media platform’s trend of churning out new products and features this year with Twitter Blue, Tip Jar, and Clubhouse-competitor Spaces. This momentum is expected to continue with Parag Agrawal taking over as CEO after co-founder Jack Dorsey stepped down last week.
