Nigerians can now rejoice as Google and Verve have joined forces to offer a seamless payment experience on the Google Play store using the Nigerian Naira.
This partnership comes as a relief to many Nigerians who previously had to deal with the hassle of acquiring foreign currency to make purchases on the Play Store.
Under this new collaboration, Google will handle Verve transactions within Nigeria, treating them as local transactions in Nigerian Naira (NG) through the country’s banking institutions.
This means that any Nigerian with an Android device and a Verve card can now effortlessly buy goods and services on the Google Play Store.
The Head of Retail and Payment Partnerships at Google Play, Anthea Crawford expressed excitement about the partnership with Verve, as it expands Google Play’s accessibility for more Nigerians.
“The introduction of local payments with Verve cards marks a significant milestone, enabling greater participation in the app economy and easy access to the apps they need,” stated Mr Crawford.
Vincent Ogbunude, the Managing Director of Verve International, also highlighted the importance of this collaboration, stating that it aligns with Verve’s vision of promoting financial inclusion.
“By bringing digital content and services closer to Verve cardholders, this partnership bridges the digital divide and brings the benefits of the digital world to more Nigerians.”
For those eager to use their Verve cards on Google Play, the process is straightforward. Simply open the Playstore, select the app you wish to purchase, click “Buy,” and enter your Verve card details when prompted.
Alternatively, you can visit pay.google.com, log in with your Gmail account, click on ‘Payment Methods,’ choose ‘Add Payment Method,’ enter your Verve card details, and save them. Once done, return to the Playstore to complete your purchase, and your Verve card will be charged automatically.
This new collaboration not only simplifies payment for Google Play Store apps and services but also contributes significantly to fostering a more inclusive digital environment for Nigerians.
Now, more people can participate in the digital marketplace and enjoy the vast array of apps and services available on the platform.
