ICT Cabinet Secretary nominee William Kabogo has been approved as the ICT CS by the Committee on Appointments of the National Assembly.

Kabogo says he will focus on working with Kenyan youth on responsible social media and Artificial Intelligence (AI) usage after a series of social media exchanges between the youth and political class in the country on alleged corruption, poor leadership, abductions among others.

Though he promises to positively engage the youth, a cross-section of social media users see his plan to curtail the use of social media in Kenya and probably ban some social media platforms or individuals from accessing the platforms.

“Honoured to have appeared for vetting as CS for the MICDE at the National Assembly. Grateful for the opportunity to share my vision for a connected, innovative, and digitally empowered future. Ready to serve,” he said on his X account.

Kabogo is looking into directing the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) to see how social media can be regulated but still enable the freedom of expression as stipulated in the constitution of Kenya.

William Kabogo, the former Kiambu Governor has replaced Margaret Nyambura, who declined her appointment as Kenya’s High Commissioner to Ghana. Margaret Nyambura’s tenure as ICT CS was short lived and Kabogo now has the chance to transform the ICT ministry and make it work for the youth. As a governor, Kabogo reiterated the need for an automated revenue collection system that allows for efficiency and accountability in order to track the activities of the various county units and the roles they play.

Kabogo also implemented technology to improve infrastructure in Kiambu as counties searched for new cost effective strategies to improve roads or build new ones. Kiambu found an innovative methods and new road designs for their county. These new methods of road designs were cost friendly and maximized the utilization of the available funds. This new process used nanotechnology to construct roads in the county.
