CcHub Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Bosun Tijani, has secured the role of minister for communications, innovation, and digital economy, assuming responsibility for driving transformative policies in support of Nigeria’s burgeoning tech landscape.
Having successfully navigated a rigorous ministerial assessment process, according to reports, Bosun Tijani emerged as the appointed figure for overseeing communications, innovation, and the digital economy.
“Notably, the nomination of the CcHub CEO heralds a significant advancement for Nigeria’s technology ecosystem. Despite facing initial opposition from legislators due to his outspoken commentary on Nigeria’s political scene, Bosun Tijani managed to mend relations through a sincere apology, ultimately securing his new role,” TechCabal reported.
This appointment marks a departure from the customary practice of selecting civil servants and career politicians to lead Nigeria’s rapidly expanding digital economy.
The reports further stated that unlike his predecessors such as Isa Pantanmi who previously headed the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Bosun Tijani’s background as a tech entrepreneur and investor adds a fresh perspective to this pivotal position.
“While Bosun Tijani will not be the first entrepreneur from the startup realm to serve within the government, his appointment holds a distinct significance. It signifies a historic moment in the tech ecosystem as he becomes the first representative from this sector to join the cabinet, solidifying its legitimacy.”
At 46 years old, Bosun Tijani, who co-founded one of Africa’s most influential tech incubators, is entrusted with the task of formulating impactful strategies that bolster the very ecosystem he played a key role in building.
Notably, in a parallel development last week, Obi Ozor, CEO of Kobo360, a logistics startup, was appointed as Commissioner of Transport in Enugu.
Bosun Tijani’s leadership has facilitated the expansion of CcHub, spanning Nigeria, Kenya, and more recently, Namibia.
CcHub’s journey from its modest origins in Yaba has metamorphosed into a critical catalyst propelling technological advancement across Africa.
The incubator empowers young minds with vital resources, communities, and funding, laying the groundwork for impactful entrepreneurial endeavours.
Backed by a billion naira growth fund, CcHub is resolutely committed to nurturing over 95 nascent businesses, some of which are pioneering innovations in Africa’s education and healthcare domains.
