Students Who Cheat On Online Exams Are Caught Using Fake Answer Sites

0

Students who cheat on online exams are caught using fake answers.

When a student visits one of these “honeypot” sites during an online test, the site automatically feeds data back to the student’s remote testing program, according to The Markup. The data reveals that the student is attempting to cheat on the site. According to the website, they are now working on over 300 educational institutions around the United States. This is not to mean that it’ll come to Kenya or go worldwide very soon but you can never be too sure given the way life moves fast.

Honorlock, they claim, hooks into students’ webcams during tests at its core. It then employs artificial intelligence to notify distant human monitors of any suspicious activities. This means they can detect when a student takes their phone out during a test.

The Director of the Centre for Advanced Studies in Environmental Law and Policy, Dr Collins Odote, recently stated that they use Google platforms to give tests first. Students are invited to Google Classrooms so that they can view all of them. They supervise or invigilate the procedure using Google Meet in their case.

They may be able to reduce online exam cheating with the advent of these honey pot sites, so stay away from cheating.

How Cavendish Mwangi is managing product success at Analog Teams

0

Cavendish Mwangi, is the Director of Products at Analog Teams, a software development company where she oversees the development of products and working with a variety of departments to ensure that the end result provides consistent value to the end-user.

Born in Nyeri County in central part of Kenya. Cavendish got her first taste of software entrepreneurship after undergoing a one-year program at the Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology in Ghana, where she learned a lot about building and validating business ideas and software products. In a joint interview with Techmoran and Kenneth Awom , this is what she shared.

Can you tell us a bit about your background and where you grew up?
My name is Cavendish Mwangi. Am a twin and the only girl in a family of 5. I grew up in the Central part of Kenya namely Nyeri Town and that has been my home for many years till I ventured out to pursue job opportunities. My childhood was pretty active and engaging as I was taught life skills at a really young age. I took part in farming when I was young and that experience alone made me open minded to try out new things and pursue more interesting opportunities.

Growing up, what were your aspirations, and how have your goals and ambitions changed over time?
Growing up I really wanted to get into the legal side of things and become a lawyer. My aspirations changed right after high school when I got a chance to take some Cisco courses. My exposure to the tech field piqued my interest and I decided to pursue the same field in Uni by taking a course in cyber security. Post university, I bumped into software entrepreneurship and since then, I haven’t looked back.
What sparked your desire to enter the Software Development industry?

“While pursuing my degree in Computer Security and Forensics. I picked up an interest in programming and created a side hustle out of it. You know how University life is, one needs to survive, right?”

As a director of Products at Analog Teams, tell us more about the company and the products it offers.?
Analog Teams is a software development company situated in the US. Analog Teams scouts for job opportunities and provide qualified talent from Africa. Our team spans in a number of African countries namely Kenya, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Nigeria and Ghana. Our core focus is building usable products and solving real life problems. We currently have 3 products we are working on and they are:

  • Native Messenger – this is a messaging app targeted at facilitating group messaging and cross-border communication through message translation to multiple languages.
  • Research Bookmark – a digital archive of UX Research knowledge that provides ux research resources to ux researchers globally. Our aim is to democratize ease of access to quality ux research information, helping researchers in the day-to-day practice.
  • Polifresh – a poli-tech tool aimed at enabling citizens to understand political policies easily through our largest policy dictionary and insights from government and private companies policies.

Are there any products you’re working on currently and which are you excited to talk about?

“I’m currently working on three products. We have an app called NATIVE Messenger, with the app we were trying to create meaningful conversations and boost global collaboration. We are creating a solution that has merged WhatsApp and Slack features for businesses.

We are also introducing a translation feature, which I believe is going to facilitate cross-border communications. This means different people from different countries that speak different languages can be able to carry out businesses just because they’re using NATIVE Messenger to converse

The other product that I’m working on is Research Bookmark. With Research Bookmark we’re just looking into ways of really bringing in more users to the product, venturing into different partnership deals to make the product more accessible to specific groups of people globally.

We also have Polifresh. It’s essentially a platform that helps normal individuals like you and me to understand the policies that governments come up with. Understanding policies aren’t easy for a lot of citizens, Polifresh is meant to uncomplicate policies especially for people in the policy field, like Policy Analysts and Political Journalists.”

What are some of the challenges of building a Minimum Viable Product (MVP)?

“Physical interaction is a challenge because we work remotely. It’s easier to check in with team members if we were in an actual office; at the end of the day, even though we are building products, we also need to look out for everyone’s well-being.”

How do you create a winning culture for your team?

A winning culture is about aligning interests and knowing when and how to involve team members in the building process. It’s about keeping them in the conversation and listening to their needs while ensuring you leave room for innovation. “To solve this challenge, we try to create a culture of productive meetings. Where we dictate what the agenda of the meeting is, and drill down to what the expectations of the team members are. Ensuring people do what they’re supposed to do, and they have enough time to carry out the tasks that they’ve been assigned.

What would you say was your first major success or big win in tech?

“Research Bookmark for sure.”

I learned a lot working on various projects immediately after I got settled in. I got a chance to wear different hats, get mentored, and be introduced properly into the UX research field.”

The reason I consider this a big win is simply this; an accessible and usable product that has an impact is the perfect definition of a successful product and Research Bookmark ticked all the boxes.

The IT industry is deemed to be male dominated; what are some of the challenges you have encountered as a female director?
I have encountered some challenges prior to becoming a director like chauvinistic male colleagues and the assumption I’m not conversant with different tech issues and subjects just because i’m a woman. I am fortunate to work as a director in an environment that mentors, protects and respects women. Most of my fellow directors are women and that goes to show that the company empower and appreciate female talent.

What do you think the IT industry especially in Africa needs to do to empower more women?

  • Mentorship – Creation of more mentorship programs that take in female individuals and teach tech skills exposing them to existing tech job opportunities.
  • Partnership – partnership with non-profit entities like girls-in-tech like provides sales training programs in high-tech industries.
  • Incentives – The IT industry should provide education incentives to get more women into STEM

Looking at the startup ecosystem in Africa? Are there female-run startups that are gaining attention?
Yes. Just to name a few, there is Piggybank.ng by Odunayo Eweniyi, Jestream Africa by Miishe Addy and Bace Group by Charlette Desiree. There are many more that are rising and rising fast and the media should make an effort to highlight them too

.COVID-19 has extremely affected the world of work, what challenges do African countries face in terms of adopting remote working.
We have experienced unstable internet and electricity in some instances. The payment mechanism also tends to be a challenge sometimes making it hard to pay people on time.

Parliament To Hold A Public Hearing On The Huduma Bill Next Week

0

In 2019, the Huduma Bill was proposed.

The law has been thoroughly examined, but it primarily proposes that all Kenyans receive the Huduma Namba. Huduma Namba, which is based on the NIIMS national database, will also be linked to all government services, meaning that without the Huduma Card, a person will be unable to get such services from the government.

“Every resident individual shall have a mandatory obligation to present Huduma Namba in order to be issued with a passport, apply for a driving license, register a mobile phone number, register as a voter, pay taxes, transact in the financial market, open a bank account, register a company or public benefit organization, transfer or make any dealings in land, register for power connection, access universal healthcare services, register a marriage…” reads part of the bill.

The Huduma Bill also aims to bring other Acts into line with it.

Existing databases that serve both functional and basic purposes, such as voter registers, taxes, and social services and products, will continue to exist but will be updated on a regular basis using NIIMS.

However, several Acts of Parliament govern social services and other types of data, such as the Citizen and Immigration Act 2011, the Tax Procedures Act 2015, the National Hospital Insurance Act 1998, and the Elections Act 2011, to name a few. The Huduma Bill 2019 proposes that these Acts be amended to allow for the efficiencies that will be gained by relying on Huduma Namba for identification and registration.

A law modification proposed for 2021 would also give Huduma Namba to babies for tax purposes. Huduma Namba will be assigned at birth or upon enrollment, according to the modification. Parents should be aware that this registration process must be completed within 90 days after the birth of their child. Payment of a late registration penalty will be required for late registrations.

As can be seen, the bill has a number of concerns, some of which have been raised by stakeholders and other interested parties.

ARTICLE 19 Eastern Africa, in collaboration with Civil Society Organizations, has filed a joint memorandum to Parliament to guarantee that the Huduma Bill promotes the full fulfilment of legal identity, privacy, and data protection.

Furthermore, ARTICLE 19 has generated some intriguing suggestions. It states that the government should be tasked with investing in increasing user trust and confidence in digital ID. This should be accomplished by involving the general population. Before shifting to the Huduma Namba system, the government should create a completely inclusive identity system, which implies that locals can access documents such as birth certificates and ordinary IDs.

Public hearing of the bill.

On Wednesday, February 23, 2022, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., a public hearing on the Huduma Bill will be held in the mini-chamber 1st Floor, County Hall, Parliament Buildings.

A public hearing invitation states, “Members of the public wishing to participate in the public hearing are required to prepare detailed written submissions, which they will hand over to the Committee in addition to the oral submission made.”

Kenyan startup Credrails secures undisclosed Seed funding for expansion.

0

Credrails, a Kenyan open finance infrastructure startup, has raised an undisclosed amount of seed funding to help it link Africa to its API.

Credrails, which launched in 2020, is building Africa’s open finance rails by linking bank, mobile money, and offline data into a single API, which it then exposes to other businesses to build a variety of use cases like lending analytics, KYC, and KYB.

This API links every African country, making it simple and quick for developers to build for Africa. The company already has a physical presence in Nigeria and access to 250 million accounts across 33 countries.

Its goal is to connect all of Africa, which has been aided by an undisclosed amount of seed investment received last month. SoftBank, Unicorn Growth, Samos Ventures, and Precursor are among the investors.

According to Clara Odero, the company’s CEO and co-founder, the future of financial services depends on developers’ skills to design new solutions while quickly upgrading existing ones.

Credrails provide them access to a variety of rich data sources in an open and secure manner. Credrails solutions also promote cross-service interoperability, resulting in faster and cheaper money transfers across Africa and beyond.

The reason I Love Online Learning along with Teaching

0

I have spent around 4, 000 hours throughout online classrooms as both equally a student and a teacher rapid long enough to have established a belief on the topic of on the web versus traditional classes.  Therefore I’m not with the majority when I say My spouse and I overwhelmingly prefer the online natural environment to the physical classroom natural environment for project management mastering. How to find the skillshare 2 months free?

I know the arguments in which critics have about it… keep in mind that have the same social bonding advantages as meeting students face-to-face, it’s hard to demonstrate abilities, it’s not as fun, and so on And I admit that there are many people it doesn’t work for.

But it is a Godsend to many more (especially those who are computer experienced, good readers, and self-motivated). I believe the reason for online learning achievement, which I have attempted to list below, far outweighs the actual negatives. Consider these points:

1 . Impartiality

The benefits of impartiality within the learning environment help us focus on the issues instead of the entertaining personal traits of the people we have been communicating with. Wow, they are pretty/ugly. They talk/dress/act/smell/walk funny.

Removing these personal distractions prospects us all to more appropriate ideas, less physical judging, as well as fairer grading. Not these issues aren’t important to the actual day-to-day success of a few project managers in the workplace, nevertheless isn’t it nice to take out those distractions while many of us focus on the topic of learning good project management processes, instruments, and techniques?

This is an example of this in a different setting, exactly where appearance shouldn’t count: As outlined by “Orchestrating Impartiality, ” a survey sponsored by the National Department of Economic Research, it was almost considered unknown before 1970 for girls to make up more than 10 % of any leading USA orchestra.

However, as impaired auditions (performing behind some screen) became more common, women representation rose dramatically by simply 1996 to an average involving 35 per cent throughout the Us. Compare this to The European Union, where auditions are done virtually entirely without screens, along with where men still include somewhere around 99 per cent from the typical orchestra lineup.

2 . The Internet is the work area for Project Management

Studying project management online assists us in practice in the same virtual environment where numerous project managers will be operating. Most professional project managers are working with multiple digital team members and vendors.

At least they are using e-mail conversation (often even when co-workers can be found in the same building along with co-located team members). In the current business world, some project administrators rarely meet their task stakeholders, communicating primarily via posting project reports and the precise product information to project portals and tracking systems.

Therefore it is crucial that you feel comfortable communicating and doing work online. What could be a great deal better simulation of this than on the web courses?

3 . Save typically the logistical hassles

Driving, airport parking, and finding a big campus room are not valuable time. A major part of my student living memory is memories of exceeding the speed limit to campus to make it punctually, struggling to find a parking location, plugging the parking ingerir, and running up measures to get to class. I also remember many times that I would arrive to discover that my instructor had been sick and had cancelled the course!

According to DreamSchool. org, probably the most common reoccurring dreams that individuals have is to dream of failing to remember which room of the college the class is being held in, or even she may be unable to discover her locker to get the girl books.

I remember having this particular dream many times myself (which means that the dreamer is unprepared for getting growth and awareness within their waking life- which is an additional issue entirely). Still, I am happy to report that courses do not seem to induce that stress response on the internet.

4 . Students tend to learn greatest when they are relaxed and comfortable.

Seated at home with bunny slippers on the desk, sipping the cup of tea and working on the internet at a time of convenience is the best learning environment. Experts will retort that there are way too many distractions at home. And it usually takes discipline to stay focused.

One of several discipline tricks I use is usually to mentally note a short advancement milestone, usually about a half-hour out, which when reached I will reward with thoughts (to throw in weight of the laundry, play with your pet, etc). These distractions, though real, are not more challenging as opposed to distractions of trying to take note of a boring lecture or maybe trying not to think about the often strange student sitting in front of anyone.

5 . Geographic and company diversity of students

While I physically attended college, this teacher and my guy students were from the same general geographic area. Many worked for one of the regional employers, and there was almost no ethnic, intellectual, or racial diversity.

Online classes are still not as diverse as I feel the need to be, but they continue to be much more varied than the physical classroom. There are a few tend inside the types of students who pick online. Some of these trends are usually:

People who are computer and Internet savvy. Mom and dad can get their education although still being home and also available for their children. People now live in the rural communities (away coming from good educational opportunities). Disabled people. People who proceed often, yet want to stick to one college.

Overall, the web-based classroom provides a wider swimming pool area for teachers and learners, which greatly adds to the richness of the group discussions.

6 . Skip the busy do the job

The online environment does not coax instructors to “fill up” class time with low-value activities. When teaching in addition to learning online, the training tends to be structured to get into the topic, work with the item to help ensure learning, and move on when the student features individually mastered it.

Learners are better able to work at their pace rather than be forced to “fill a classroom hour”. Tiny for a minute, it eradicates waiting for others and therefore on the net is just more productive.

7 . Deadline orientation

In the undertaking world, schedules are centred on milestones and deadlines instead of specifying exactly when performance should be performed. The physical classroom tends to treat understanding as a timed meeting.

Diverse students work at different paces. Some people are new to the fabric and need more time, others could be slower readers or staff, and it can be not easy to accurately estimate the time it will take a student to do the. Classroom time is often organised for exercises to be chalk talk breaks for the instructor. Even so, a certain number of students aren’t getting to complete the exercise, while other people achieve their work first and end up politely spending time.

The online environment is structured around milestones in addition to deadlines. The way real do the job projects are. There is no spending of time. Students learn to extended assignment deadlines rather than to be able to show up. The behave of just showing up online without doing work is unrewarded.

8 . Safety

Many grownup learners attend evening lessons that often conclude around 15: 00 pm. After school, there is the long, dark go walking to the car. This is then a long drive home in an extremely tired state of mind, following doing double duty as a full-time employee followed by some hours in the classroom. There are particular safety and public safety issues involved with this scenario that are fully eliminated in the online environment.

9 . Earlier true view with the course

Online courses allow students to “see” the reality of the system considerably earlier than the traditional classroom establishing. In both formats, the good trainer will initially provide an extensive course syllabus outlining the information of each class or device.

These descriptions, although well-intentioned, often are difficult for any student to comprehend until the college student understands the instructor’s terminology, style, and meaning.

Numerous students in traditional courses don’t feel like they truly understand the system’s flow until about 40 to 50% of the semester.

The online course is an open book to college students. As soon as they gain access to the existing system, they generally are free to see all of the assignments and pursuits in all of their detail.

They might very quickly determine what they will be suffering from. They can make a much quicker review on if they want to finish the course, or when it wasn’t what they wanted or may be expected, they can drop the idea before they have much time used.

In summary, I’m anxiously looking ahead to (and lobbying for) the training improvements that will make each of our online classes more engaging by better design, multimedia, account telling, and too revealing. However, even with the current, reasonably unsophisticated approach being used right now, it is still a wonderful mastering environment. Check out savingchief to know more.

Tunisian Insurtech startup Avidea raises $696k Pre-Series A funding for expansion.

0

Avidea, a Tunisian digital insurance startup, has raised 2 million dinars ($696k) in Pre-Series A funding round led by Capsa Capital Partners, one of Tunisia’s largest private equity firms, and the specialist investment vehicle 216 CAPITAL FUND I, which is managed by 216 CAPITAL ADVENTURES.

As the company enters a critical phase of industrialization and internalization, this funding will enable the addition of new talent to the Avidea team, as well as the expansion of the product’s functional scope and the look for new markets.

AVIDEA is a startup specializing on the digitalization of automobile claims processing and fraud prevention. It was founded in 2017.  Its main goal is to assist insurance companies in lowering the cost of automotive claims while improving the customer experience.

South Africa’ Zindi raises $1m seed round for expansion.

0

Zindi, a professional network of data scientists based in South Africa, has raised a US$1 million seed funding round to help it continue its rapid expansion.

Zindi is a community of over 34,000 data scientists that use machine learning and AI to solve some of the world’s most important economic and societal concerns. It was founded in 2018 by Celina Lee, Megan Yates, and Ekow Duker with the concept that data science should be accessible to everyone.

Companies come to Zindi to find the best solutions and people for their businesses. Its registered users come from 150 different countries, and Zindi’s user base has roughly doubled in the last year. The company has completed over 100 challenges and provided over 100 machine learning solutions to clients.

The startup now plans further growth after raising a US$1 million seed round, led by the San Francisco-based Shakti VC, along with Launch Africa Ventures, Founders Factory Africa, and five35. Lee said Zindi had plans for further expansion.

“We are a platform with African roots but global reach. So far our main focus has been on penetrating the African market. We will be the go-to platform for every data scientist and aspiring data scientist on the continent. It is entirely possible that if we can get it right in Africa at scale, if we can create a world where companies, data sets, and talent are seamlessly connecting on the Zindi platform to create new exciting value, we could replicate this model in other emerging market contexts where many of the opportunities and challenges are similar,” she said.

“We already see, for example, data scientists from Kenya, Tunisia, and India who met on Zindi, teaming up to solve a problem for an organisation in South Africa. We shared a frustration seeing companies in Africa sitting on unprecedented amounts of data and an excitement about data science, AI and machine learning, but not knowing how to even start. They often assumed that they had to look outside of Africa to find the people they needed to help them.”

Zindi fills the gap here, with its mission of making data science and AI accessible to everyone.

“This means all companies are able to unlock the power of their data; people are able to pursue careers in data science regardless of race, gender, or geography; and AI solutions are designed appropriately to positively impact everyday lives of all people around the world,” Lee said.

The startup charges companies for posting a challenge on Zindi, and then crowd-sources machine learning solutions for them.

“This can be for anything from customer churn prediction and cross-selling products to predicting flood extents using weather data. Companies get hundreds of talented data scientists working on their problem, and in the end they own the IP of the top three solutions,” said Lee.

“We also make money in talent placement. We source top candidates with the right skill sets for companies. We are able to draw on the candidates’ actual performance and engagement on the Zindi platform.”

Whatsapp for IOS

0

WhatsApp began testing the ability to listen to voice messages while in another chat about a month ago.  The company is making an improved version of this feature available to all users.

The app’s version 22.4.75 allows users to listen to voice messages and audio files outside of chats. You can start listening to an audio message and then switch to another chat, reply to a friend, or even send a bunch of stickers to the family group with that.

This feature arrives just a few weeks after WhatsApp announced some important functions. One of these features is the ability to pause and resume recording a voice message. Furthermore, users can listen to the message before sending it, which is a significant improvement for the app.

Version 22.2.75 also included a new tweak as a result of iOS 15. When a user receives a WhatsApp notification, the app now displays the profile photo of the person who sent them a message on the iPhone’s Lock Screen, similar to how Twitter and Slack do.

Last but not least, this latest version added proper Focus mode support, which means that selected users can still message you even if you have set a Focus mode.

If you want to try out all of these features, make sure to download the most recent version of WhatsApp from the App Store. Don’t worry if some of these features aren’t available yet; WhatsApp is gradually rolling them out to all users.

0

FSD Africa and the National Insurance Commission of Nigeria (NAICOM) have partnered  to launch BimaLab, an accelerator program aimed at accelerating the development and adoption of digital insurance solutions.

By educating, nurturing, and promoting innovators and insurtech startups, BimaLab Nigeria aims to close gaps in the insurance sector. With a focus on local experience, the program will draw on Kenya’s BimaLab I, BimaLab II, and global best practices.

Ten companies will be selected for the ten-week program, which will provide them with the skills, resources, and support they need to develop and expand market-ready solutions that bring social and/or commercial value to Nigeria’s insurance sector.

“We believe that this programme will enhance the development of a vibrant ecosystem of startups, through collaboration with corporate partners, investors and research institutions to accelerate and scale innovation in the insurance industry in Nigeria. We have successfully implemented the programme in Kenya and are commencing the same in Ghana,” said Kelvin Massingham, director of risk and resilience at FSD Africa.

Thomas Olorundare Sunday, commissioner for insurance and CEO of the National Insurance  Commission (NAICOM), said that innovation was a fundamental engine of change in the financial sector, resulting in immeasurable efficiency and gains.

“Even though these changes can sometimes be accompanied by uncertainty and hesitation, there is evidence of great success. I do not doubt that with such collaborations, Nigeria is set to be a successful case study on insurance innovation across the continent,” he said.

Applications for BimaLab Nigeria are open here until February 23.

Zipline and Kisumu County Partner to accelerate universal health Coverage across the County

0

Zipline, a global logistics company and Kisumu County, a member of the Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB) have signed an agreement which aims to accelerate universal health coverage across the County.

Zipline’s warehousing facility and autonomous aircraft technology will be used for storage and delivery of COVID-19 vaccines, blood products and other medical commodities to health facilities within the Kisumu county.

The agreement specifies the establishment and operation of a Zipline distribution hub in Kisumu County that will act as the base of operations for the Zipline uncrewed aerial system (UAS) and the Zipline services capable of serving health projects and facilities across 16 counties in western Kenya

The Governor of Kisumu County, H.E. Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o, said, “We have made some significant efforts in improving the overall healthcare delivery of our people. It is heartwarming to note, therefore, that our mission of achieving universal health coverage is on course with this historic partnership which will ensure that no one is left behind as a result of their location”.

Commenting on the partnership, the Chairman of LREB and County Governor of Kakamega said, “it is our commitment as LREB to deliver an aggressive agenda of building a robust health delivery system that will not only serve a few but the vast majority of people within LREB Counties. Zipline’s technology is one we can resort to in accelerating the transformation of our health systems to provide timely healthcare solutions to the people on whose mandate we serve”.

On his part, the CEC of Health, Dr. Gregory Ganda said, “I am happy to note that this is one step towards reducing operational inefficiencies that inhibit access to universal healthcare in our country and region”. “We’ve seen how automated, on-demand delivery can transform healthcare systems to make them more efficient, effective and equitable,” said Keller Rinaudo, co-founder and CEO of Zipline.

“Zipline’s expansion into Kenya, our seventh country, in partnership with Kisumu County, is a pivotal step forward to expand these important benefits to more communities around the world.” The Snr. Vice President for Zipline Africa, Mr. Daniel Marfo, also assured that Zipline will expedite the distribution hub construction process to ensure that access to healthcare for life-threatening illness and vaccines is achieved rapidly. “

Zipline’s footprint in Africa has seen it establish business partnerships in Rwanda, Ghana, Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire and now Kenya where it seeks to carry an industrious technology driven transformation in the health sectors.

Google Has Confirmed That They Will Be Restricting Advertisers’ Ability To Track Users Of Android Phones

0

Google announced on Wednesday that advertisers will be unable to track users of Android phones and other devices.

It joins Apple in taking steps to protect consumer privacy in the United States, signalling a major shift in the digital advertising sector. Anthony Chavez, vice president of product management for Android Security & Privacy, said in a blog post that the company will also develop other ways for software developers and businesses to reach mobile users while limiting sharing of people’s personal data, noting that the company wants to “raise the bar for user privacy.”

Google includes a unique identifier on Android devices, called Advertising ID, that allows marketers to see what a user is doing across all apps, allowing companies to build a comprehensive picture of that person’s interests and activities. Wednesday’s move will limit apps’ ability to capture that information.

How long will it take?

The changes, however, won’t take place for at least two years, and Google said it will “provide substantial notice ahead of any future changes.” The company offered few details on what more private advertising will look like.

Google’s move follows Apple’s decision last year to limit user tracking on iPhones. Apps on iOS, from diet and fitness apps to mobile games, must now ask for permission every time they track someone. About three-quarters of iOS users choose not to be tracked, according to Flurry Analytics. That’s caused waves in the multibillion targeted advertising market.

How has it affected social media companies?

Apple’s privacy push has already slammed Meta, the parent of Facebook and Instagram, with losses. The company said this month that the privacy changes would cost it $10 billion this year — an admission that contributed to a record stock drop, wiping $300 billion off its market value. Meta’s stock fell further on Wednesday morning, dropping 3.4% in early trading after Google’s announcement.

Google, now part of Alphabet, pioneered Advertising ID — a string of digits that identifies a particular Android mobile device and allows advertisers to target users based on their device activity. Last year, the company said it would move away from Advertising ID on mobile and restrict the use of third-party cookies in its Chrome web browser to protect its users’ digital footprint online.

“Advertisers are reliant on the current tracking mechanisms, and Advertising ID, just like they are on cookies because it allows them to have a broader picture of their consumers,” said Lauren Wetzel, chief operating officer at InfoSum, which describes itself as a privacy-focused data company.

The coming changes mean that many advertisers will have less information on potential customers, Wetzel said. “If you’re a publisher, and you’re basically trying to showcase to brands and say the advertising that you sell will reach your audience, you also have a lower understanding of your audience,” she said, adding that the changes will affect mobile-first companies hardest.

Privacy advocates have criticized targeted ads as invasive, and lawmakers in Congress have introduced bills that would severely restrict the technology. Meta has settled multiple lawsuits alleging it tracked users after they logged off and scanned users’ faces without their consent. Last month, four attorneys general sued Google, accusing the company of tracking users’ locations and lying about it.

Google criticized Apple’s privacy changes in its Wednesday blog post, calling it a “blunt” approach that was ineffective and that could “lead to worse outcomes for user privacy and developer businesses.” The company implied that simply turning off tracking would threaten users’ ability to get free mobile content.

“Mobile apps are a core part of our everyday lives. Currently, over 90% of the apps on Google Play are free, providing access to valuable content and services to billions of users. Digital advertising plays a key role in making this possible,” the company said in its post.

Google also said it will seek feedback on its changes from developers, regulators and privacy advocates.

The two-year timeline on those changes shows that the company is trying to strike a balance between privacy protection for users and the interests of advertisers, Wenzel said.

She added, “I don’t see the current wave of privacy, and consumers’ focus on that, going away.”

Kenya’s Sendy partners with residential minimarts in credit finance and fulfillment scheme.

0

Kenya’s Sendy has partnered with Kenya’s Mini Marts to facilitate micro-retail commerce

Through a third-party credit financing scheme and fulfillment operations, the supply-chain technology business is assisting over 5000 Nairobi minimarts in reviving their operations.

Mini Marts in Nairobi’s residential areas will receive credit funding ranging from Ksh 50,000 to Ksh 2 million to help them expand their stock, increase their profits, and provide cheap products to their customers.

According to a Sendy report, small businesses account for 70% of the FMCG market, with the majority of small merchants unable to stock up on a regular basis.

According to the survey, almost 5000 minimarts in Nairobi are unable to keep their shelves adequately stocked.

Sendy Supply’s General Manager Don Okoth said: “We have made this capital accessible to help mini-marts optimize their profitability and reduce losses caused by stock outs, product unavailability and price inconsistency. The impact of minimarts being able to source quality goods at affordable prices with assured delivery is felt by many households.”

Sendy will also use its logistics skills to provide next-day delivery from a real-time order fulfillment system.

“Most mini-mart owners have to deal with the issue of logistics from suppliers which takes their focus away from running their businesses. With our partnership, they can instantly order goods from our Sendy Supply mobile App and get next-day shipment of the purchased stock for free,” added Mr. Okoth.

The deal also offers customers an access to a wider variety of products from different suppliers at competitive pricing from Sendy’s Supply platform, including Bidco Africa, Chandaria Industries Ltd, Alpha Grain Millers, Excel Chemicals Ltd, Highlands Drinks Ltd, KimFay EA Ltd, Mombasa Maize Millers Ltd, Pwani Oil and Premier Food Industries Ltd.

With the expansion of the retail economy, mini-marts’ impact at the bottom of the pyramid has grown significantly. According to market research firm Nielsen, kiosks and groceries accounted for 66.3 percent (Sh185.2 billion) of total FMCG spend in Kenya in the year ending March 2019, up 10.7 percent from the previous year’s same period, explaining the expansion of neighborhood mini-marts.

Mini-marts are small supermarkets in estate  neighbourhoods  which are not part of a large retail chain  and keep moderate stock levels.

Earnipay Secures $4m Seed Funding to Provide On-demand Salary to Employees in Africa.

0

Earnipay, a financial technology company that provides income-earners with flexible and on-demand paycheck access, has raised $4 million in a seed round led by Canaan and including XYZ Ventures, Village Global, Musha Ventures, Ventures Platform, Voltron Capital, and Paystack CEO Shola Akinlade.

Earnipay, which targets employees across Africa, began operations in January 2022 after being in development and beta testing since September 2021.

Founded by Nonso Onwuzulike to improve the financial well-being of employees, Earnipay uses its technology to offer employees the opportunity to access their earned salaries into their accounts flexibly, in real-time and interest-free.

Earnipay partners with employers and seamlessly integrates with their payroll systems to offer its services to employees, who can then track and withdraw their accrued salaries via the app. Businesses are able to have complete oversight and set limits for the percentage of salaries employees can withdraw each month.

Since operating in beta, Earnipay has served over 20 businesses, outsourcing firms and HR solution providers in Nigeria including Eden Life and Thrive Agric, whose employees have used the app to access their salary over 1,000 times, indicating a strong demand for the solution.

With the Seed funding, Earnipay will accelerate the development of its technology platform to serve large enterprise employers. By doing so, Earnipay will provide employees with the tools they need to make better financial decisions and improve their quality of life. The company plans to offer its on-demand salary solution to 200,000 employees by the end of 2022.

Speaking on the funding round and the recent launch of Earnipay, CEO Nonso Onwuzulike, says, “Financial worries are the leading cause of distractions in the workplace. The monthly pay cycle means employees are often unable to afford daily expenses, cover emergencies or take advantage of immediate financial opportunities. As a result, they become exposed to predatory payday loans and get stuck in unending debt cycles with unrealistic payback periods and expensive interest rates. Earnipay exists to address this problem and offer an ethical alternative to instant salary access while helping employers improve employee engagement and retention at zero cost to their business. The future of salary is on-demand, and we’re excited to be pioneering this amazing solution in Africa. I’m delighted to be collaborating with a group of highly respected investors who understand the need for a platform such as Earnipay to drive better access to salaries, and, importantly, to improve the financial well-being of income-earners in Africa.”

“We’ve seen earned wage access grow rapidly in many markets and believe it’s a natural fit in Africa,” said Brendan Dickinson, partner at Canaan. “Earnipay has quickly established itself with a product built specifically for the payroll behaviours of this region, and early employer uptake is very strong. Nonso has built one of the strongest teams that we’ve met on the entire continent, and we’re thrilled for the opportunity to partner with them.”

On-demand salary access is a huge opportunity in Africa, with over 70% of Africa’s workforce (500 million people) paid every 30 days and are living paycheck to paycheck. The 30-days pay cycle has led to 40% of the workforce living in an unending debt cycle as they struggle to match their income to their daily expenses, emergencies and opportunities. African businesses struggle to provide scalable solutions for employees to access their daily salaries as they work for it due to legacy payroll process, lack of available cash flow and internal salary advance that remains to be a tedious and manual affair.

Earnipay charges employees a small processing fee of NGN250 or NGN500 for this access. There is no payback and no interest charge because employees are accessing what they have worked for, It’s their money.

With Earnipay, employers offer more financial well-being support to their employees, which in turn enables them to attract and retain top talent in an increasingly competitive employment market. In addition to on-demand salary, Earnipay provides financial education for employees to improve their financial literacy with a goal to enable them to make better financial decisions.

Onwuzulike concludes: “For five months, we have been working collaboratively with employers to deliver a workplace benefit that solves the biggest source of stress and distraction in the workplace: employee money issues. By doing so, employers are improving employee engagement and productivity, as well as positioning themselves as a better place to work. We are systematically addressing the inefficiencies in how the African workforce interacts with salaries and will continue to build products and services with both employers and employees in mind.”

Employers can sign up to Earnipay via the web platform to gain access to the employer dashboard and add their employees in a simple process. Employees will receive an invitation and have immediate access to all financial tools available on the employee mobile [via Playstore or App store] or the web app.

How to schedule an email in Gmail

0

Google stated in April 2019 that Gmail would offer email scheduling natively, and the feature became available on desktop and mobile a month later. Gmail’s function is extremely user-friendly, and it includes a variety of tools for scheduling business and personal messages. Perhaps you’re attempting to communicate with someone in a distant time zone, nagging someone about an upcoming event, or simply wanting to remind your future self of something. If that’s the case, send an email.

Follow these steps to schedule a message in Gmail on a desktop web browser:

  • Make a new email.
  • Next to the blue “Send” button, click the triangle.
  • Select “Schedule send” from the drop-down menu.
  • Choose one of the suggested times, or click “Pick date & time” to specify a specific time for the message to be sent.

In Gmail’s mobile app, the procedure is identical. When creating an email, however, you must click the three dots in the top right-hand corner of the screen instead of part of the send button. The opportunity to schedule a time will appear.

Finding scheduled emails and canceling them is also easy. There’s a new “Scheduled” folder on desktop and mobile. Simply click on a message in the folder and click “Cancel send” in the top right of the window to stop a message from being sent. It’ll go right back to your drafts folder.

Important Aspects of Guest Posting

0

Guest posting or guest blogging has become one of the most important ways of expanding online presence. Whether it’s SEO, content marketing, link building, relationship management, or just reaching a wider audience, guest posting is one of the best ways to make it happen.

What is Guest Posting?

Guest posting is writing blogs or articles for someone else’s website. It may seem strange to give away well-written content to someone else, but there are several advantages to guest posting which make it worthwhile in the long run.

What Are the Benefits of Guest Posting?

Guest posing isn’t giving away content for free. There are many tangible benefits that have made it a staple of content marketing for over a decade now. Good guest posting can lead to the following benefits:

  • Posting quality content on other people’s websites is an opportunity to engage with a new audience
  • High-quality guest posts can direct traffic back to the original website
  • Guest posts are an excellent way of getting backlinks to boost SEO
  • Guest posts are a great way of connecting with other people in the industry which can lead to further mutually beneficial collaborations
  • Posts across several websites establish authority

All these tangible benefits have led to some problems with guest posting though, which is why guest posting services have become important tools for anybody in the digital space.

Problems With Guest Posting

Guest posting has been around for over a decade now, which means people have found ways of abusing it. One of the biggest mistakes people make is either posting content on a spammy, clickbait website or hosting content that is low quality. This is a quick way of upsetting potential new readers because hosting or creating low-quality content undermines authority and legitimacy.

What is guest posting in SEO? Search engines are getting more intricate which means they are getting better at discerning between quality content and spam content. Essentially when it comes to backlinks, quality is much more important than quantity. Content for guest posts must be well written from an SEO perspective and be aware of the quality of the partner sites.

Finding the Right Partners

It may seem challenging to come up with the right people and websites to partner with, but there are several ways to develop high-quality relationships. The most important thing is to conduct thorough research to make sure that any potential partner maintains the same or higher quality.

  • A good partner is well respected
  • A good partner has a wide following and posts regularly
  • A good partner has values and opinions that align with yours
  • A good partner does not use spam or clickbait articles

A great place to start is looking at partners’ websites and suggesting guest posting both ways. Partners usually have specific niches but are complementary to each other’s operations, giving an opportunity to create insightful content that will engage readers.

Another great place to look for potential guests post partners is the websites and blogs of non-competitor companies in the same field or industry. Direct competitors may be hesitant to promote a rival’s interests, but working with a noncompetitor can be mutually beneficial.

It’s possible to find good partners for guest posting using the internet. Running a Google search with relevant keywords like guest blog, guest post, right for us, can result in some quality partners but more often than not lead to clickbait and low-quality websites.

There are also many types of guest post services that connect potential guests post partners. These Services can help find partners but are often paid services, so consider the pros and cons before using one.

An organic way of finding guest post partners is by actively searching through blogs and finding people who post guest posts. Follow their links back to their website and send them an email asking for an opportunity to post something unique.

What Is Guest Post in SEO

For many people, the main reason for guest posting is improving SEO ranking. Backlinks are how guest posts improve SEO. Essentially, a backlink is a link that takes readers back to the original website. Having many backlinks to a variety of websites improves the original website’s ranking considerably.

Link placement is an important factor. Google considers organic links that are within the context of a paragraph towards the beginning of an article as more important than ones at the end.

Anchor text is another important factor in guest posting. Anchor text is hyperlinked phrases that tell search engines and the audience what the main purpose of the article is. Make sure you choose appropriate anchor text and use them multiple times throughout the article.

Be careful when using anchor text though. Using the same anchor text multiple times can make search engines think of the content as spam, so pepper in hyperlinks and anchor text to other related phrases as well.

How to Write a High-Quality Guest Post

A low-quality guest post can damage reputations and negatively affect SEO rankings. So it is vital to create the best quality post possible. A guest post is not an advertisement, so it should not be structured like one. A guest post adds value and offers the reader important information or some kind of insight.

The goal of a guest post should be to impress a new audience so that they follow the backlink, to build relationships with companies, bloggers, and websites in the field. And to become an authority on a subject.

Here are a few things to keep in mind when writing a guest post:

  • Include a call to action towards the end of the post so that readers remember to engage with it by commenting and sharing
  • Include an author bio section with permanent backlinks. This way even if the website changes its policies, a permanent backlink will exist.
  • Include a link within the article to the partner companies’ websites or previous blog posts. This makes it more likely that they will promote the article and partner again.
  • Share guest posts on social media to improve reputation as a guest poster and to gain more traffic

Finals Tips About Guest Posting

Guest posting done right can create new opportunities and affect the bottom line. While there are several challenges to overcome, developing the right partners can quickly expand a business or blog. Here are a few final tips:

  • The headline is the first thing a potential reader sees, so make sure the headline of a guest post is interesting and engaging without being clickbait.
  • Consider the audience you want to attract and tailor the language and style of the article for that audience.
  • Always follow guidelines from the host company but in general guest posts between 1500 and 2500 words perform well.
  • If the host company allows videos and pictures use them but don’t overdo it. The main draw of a guest post should be the quality of information of the writing.
  • Use formatting tricks to create an aesthetically pleasing layout for both web and mobile versions of the site
  • This is true of any writing but make sure to proofread the article before guest posting. Many companies will deny a guest post with typos, and readers will be hesitant to follow a backlink if the post is full of mistakes.

What Is The Best Way To Change The Background Color On Instagram Stories?

  • Open the Instagram app and log in.
  • To take a picture, tap the in-app camera. Any shot will suffice.
  • Use the sketch tool in the top right corner once you’ve taken the shot.
  • Then, in the lower section of your screen, a color menu will appear; tap on a color. If none of them appeal to you, you can tap and hold one to show a color picker menu with hundreds of options, and then choose one by moving your finger across the palette.
  • To apply the color, tap and hold on the image on the story once you’ve chosen your color. You’ll see a basic background with the color of your choice.
  • Now that the background is uniform in appearance, you can place text or emojis wherever you choose.

Adding A Transparent Overlay On IG Story.

This stage might be seen as a continuation of the previous one.

If you want to keep your photo or image on the post but add a description text or larger emojis or memes that stand out, using a transparent overlay can help.

  • Tap the draw tool, then the translucent pen tool, with the photo already on your story. (On the top tool menu, the third tool from the left.)
  • Choose the color at the bottom of the screen after tapping the Transparent Pen Tool.
  • To apply the effect, tap and hold anywhere on the screen.

The image will be visible beneath the translucent overlay, and you can text emoji and other characters and it will still be visible. As shown in the illustration.

On Instagram, Using The Eraser Tool With An Overlay

On Instagram, you may use an eraser tool with an overlay to draw attention to a piece of an image you wish to share on your story.

  • After applying the overlay effect as recommended in the previous step, you may wish to use the eraser tool to let your readers get a full view of the image underneath ( fifth tool from the left of the top tool menu ).
  • Drag the pointer up or down to the size you want on the left to select the eraser size.
  • To reveal the image underneath, swipe your finger across the overlayed surface.

On Instagram, here’s how to make a rainbow text.

After you’ve set out the background of your post, you may add any text you want. You have the option of choosing any color or having it display in a rainbow of hues. Here’s how you can do it.

  • Any text can be added.
  • Select the text (tap and hold the text till the selection cursor appears) and then tap and hold the purple color from the bottom menu with your right thumb.
  • Use your left thumb to press and hold the text selection cursor at the end of the text you inserted while holding the color with your right thumb. Now move both thumbs to the left at the same time.
  • After you’ve set out the background of your post, you may add any text you want. You have the option of choosing any color or having it display in a rainbow of hues. Here’s how you can do it.

And there you have it! Your text is now in rainbow colors.

The Perks of Using Promo Codes

0

Introduction

When buying online, using online coupon codes or discount links is similar to using paper coupons at local retailers. Unlike paper coupons, which must be shown to a cashier to be redeemed, online businesses provide a code to enter during checkout that corresponds to a particular discount, which is deducted from the entire transaction. Similarly a Promo code is a form of coupon that merchants provide. Customers may easily save money by using a coupon code at the checkout. Newspapers, magazines, and coupons are all good places to look for these codes. A variety of affiliate marketing websites provide discount coupons and promotional codes. For an easy way to access verified promo codes and discounts, shoppers can check out SaveMyCent, which curates deals across popular online stores.

Most coupon codes offer fixed discounts, a percentage of the full transaction, free shipping, or other discounts as offered by the retailer for online purchases. Coupon codes are referred to by a variety of terms, including promotional or promo codes, discount codes, digital coupons, and other variations.

Websites a Great Tool for Discounted Shopping

There are websites that might be useful to have on hand at all times for anyone who enjoys shopping yet wants to save some money. These websites, which you can locate online, will provide discount codes for a wide range of product categories, so don’t assume you won’t be able to find a coupon for what you need until you search multiple websites. As you may have noticed, there are a large number of online retailers where you may utilize these coupons. You should bookmark the links to these sites in your browser so that you may check them for discount codes on a regular basis. We all require numerous items in order to live comfortably, but this does not imply that we must spend a crazy amount of money. You have the option of wisely spending your money by taking advantage of any offer you receive from the websites.

Promo/Coupon Codes FAQ

Is it feasible to apply two distinct promo codes to a single purchase?

Promo codes providers almost never allow two codes to be used on the same order, as they usually only allow one code per purchase. Nonetheless, you never know unless you try, so see if you can use both of the codes in the same order. You’re in fortune if it works. If not, select the option that provides you with the most incredible price for your order.

What types of discount coupons are available?

There are several different kinds of promotional codes. Codes that will save you a particular proportion of the purchase price; for example, you can obtain a 25% discount on certain products. Codes that can help you save a significant amount of money; some codes may not give a certain percentage as a discount, but instead specify the amount of money you will be able to save if you use them; Free or reduced delivery codes; these codes will assist you in receiving a free or, at the at least, a very low-cost delivery; Free product codes; you won’t get a discount, but you will get something better, such as a free item.

Nigerian startup Meeula launches smart business card solution.

0

Meeula, a Nigerian startup, has launched a smart lead-generating business card to help corporate professionals, entrepreneurs, and business owners in better networking.

Meeula, which was founded in May 2021, allows users to exchange contacts with a simple tap at events, conferences, meetings, or meetups.

“Instead of professionals getting to order paper cards again and again, they simply use a single smart business card with unlimited benefits. First, it helps professionals save on costs, and update their business contact information anytime without ordering again. Then it also helps professionals to effortlessly build an email list from contacts received,” said Emmanuel Uduebholo, the startup’s CEO.

Meeula was bootstrapped by Uduebholo utilizing revenue from his previous firm, Mentorships.ng, which he launched in 2019.

“It was in the course of marketing Mentorships.ng one-on-one to professionals that I noticed how weak the paper business card was, because I only get to give them cards expecting their response, which I didn’t get all the time, maybe because they forgotten or they found it stressful to type in contacts and follow-up,” he said.

“So when I was looking for a better option, I found the smart business card very effective. Not only that, I spotted the gap, need and opportunity in the Nigerian market, and decided to go ahead and make it available to everyone.”

Early uptake has been strong, he said.

“So far, we’ve had amazing and rising responses and interests from the market we are serving currently. We will be rolling out fully to serve the corporate teams this year,” said Uduebholo.

“We’re currently marketing to existing business card owners, creatives, entrepreneurs and corporate organisations. Our product also allows organisations to create corporate accounts for their entire business team to aid their business marketing goals.”

Maintain Your Glasses In 7 Easy Ways

0

While there are several problems that glasses wearers encounter daily, there is nothing more painful than letting go of your old glasses. Most people have to change glasses because of either the visibility reducing or the glasses breaking.

Taking proper care of your glasses can extend your glasses life and keep them brand new. Wondering how you can do that? We have got you covered. Below we have made a list of 7 ways you can maintain your prescription eyeglasses.

Rinse before spraying

A common mistake that people make while cleaning their glasses is to rinse them with water first. No matter how frequently you are cleaning your glasses, if the method is not right, it won’t make a difference. So, before you spray a cleaning solution onto your glasses, rinse them with water.

Remember to not put your glasses directly under a tap. Instead, rinse your glasses with warm water gently. Rinsing is recommended to get the dirt off your glasses. Although a spray can be used for the same, it won’t be as effective as rinsing.

Be careful with the spray you use

Do not spray your glasses with any spray that you find. This may cause your glasses to get further damaged. Your cleaning spray should never contain ammonia as it can strip the covering on your lens as well as the frame. Opt for a cleaning solution made specifically for glasses.

You can usually find these cleaning solutions at your glasses shop. You can even find these sprays online. As long as you remember to clean your glasses regularly with water and spray, you will be good!

Choose the right cloth

Choosing the right is one of the most crucial steps of cleaning your glasses. You should not use anything besides a microfibre cloth to clean your lenses. Yes, you should not even use your t-shirt. A microfiber cloth is best suited for cleaning glasses as it is soft on the lenses.

On the other hand, paper towels, t-shirts, etc., can leave small scratches on your lens. Although you will not be able to see them at the beginning, your glasses will gradually get foggy because of them.

Store properly

Leaving your glasses anywhere puts them at the risk of breaking or bending. So, make sure you store your glasses properly. You should either store your glasses in the case they came in or a microfibre pouch. Also, keep your glasses in the case even while you are sleeping.

Most people keep their glasses at their side table or some other place. However, this can expose your glasses to bacteria. Moreover, that is not a safe place. Another thing to remember is to take your case with you wherever you go.

Avoid putting your glasses on your head

Most people do not know that keeping their glasses on their heads can be harmful. Why? This is because your glasses can catch bacteria from your head. Consequently, when you put your glasses on your eyes, you can get an eye infection. Since you would not want that, never put your glasses on your head.

Putting your glasses on your head also affects their shape, whether you have round glasses or square ones. It can widen your frame or loosen the ends, making it fall off your face when you look down. So, to maintain the fit of your eyeglasses, you should avoid putting your glasses on your head.

Keep the frame clean

Cleaning your glasses does not comprise just cleaning your lenses; you should also clean your frame. Make sure you rinse them and remove any dust that might be there. Also, cleaning your frame is important to keep bacteria off your glasses.

Get your glasses services

It is important to get your glasses serviced from time to time. For instance, if the frame has loosened up, you can get them tightened from your local shop. You can also get them a bit loosened up if they are too tight. Along with that, you can also get your glasses cleaned at your local shop.

Conclusion

Spending 5 minutes on your glasses daily can prevent premature damage. Moreover, it can help you escape the whole process of choosing new glasses. Make sure you follow these tips to both save your glasses and some extra bucks!

Why Should You Consider Using a 38 Super?

0

Despite having similar names, the .38 Super has nothing to do with the .38 Special or any other revolver cartridge. The .38 Super’s origin is in the .38 ACP cartridge invented by John Moses Browning for his Colt M1900 pistol.

In 1929, Colt introduced a new version of their M1911 pistol (which was not stout enough to handle high pressures) with the “Super .38” Automatic. The .38 Super cartridge was a little more than a hot .38 ACP loaded to its original velocities for the new Colt pistol. The .38 Super was then renamed to .38 Super +P in 1974 to distinguish it from the .38 ACP.

So, here are a few reasons why you should consider getting the best .38 Super Pistol for the most satisfying shooting experience.

The .38 Super is More Powerful

The .38 is more powerful than most other handgun calibers of the early 1900s. The choice of handguns in the first few decades of the 20th century was very narrow and mostly limited to big, heavy, slow-moving bullets like the .45 ACP or smaller and slow-moving bullets like the original .38 Special. Compared to those, the .38 Super was one of the best handgun cartridges that relied on velocity rather than size to get results.

The .45 ACP was good for vulnerable, squishy targets like the enemies of the US military, but its penetration power is somewhat lacking. On the other hand, a 130 grain .38 Super can travel over 1300 fps to penetrate ballistic vests and even car bodies. While this might sound like a dream cartridge for law enforcement during times of violent depression/prohibition-era gang violence, the .357 Magnum completely overshadowed the .38 Super in 1934.

Like the .38 Super, the .357 Magnum could reach a 1300 fps bullet speed, but it could only do that with 180 grains instead of 130. The magnum was a huge ballistic leap forward and was much more attractive to American law enforcement.

Great for IPSC Competitions

While the .38 Super was not very well received by the American military and law enforcement, it actually got quite big in Mexico and other Latin American countries where governments restrict ownership of “military” calibers like the 9mm and .45 ACP. The .38 Super only started to gain traction in the United States when the “gamers” found it.

The early days of the very first formal action pistol competition, known as the IPSC, were full of experimentation and discovery in terms of both technique and equipment. The original concept of when IPSC was first developed was to test self-defense guns and one of the early rules require was a “power factor” for all ammunition.

The power factor rule issues a stiff scoring penalty to any participant who uses ammo that does not meet a certain power standard that’s measured as a combination of bullet velocity and weight. This was to prevent competitors from gaming the system by shooting weaker calibers to gain an advantage over a lower recoil.

At that time, most participants of the upper divisions of IPSC shot the .45 ACP 1911 pistols since its factory ammo met the power factor requirement. In search of an advantage edge over other competitors, IPSC shooters began experimenting with different hand loads and calibers before eventually discovering the .38 Super +P loads that not only met the required power factor but could hold two more rounds in the magazine than the .45s. Furthermore, the cartridge has a significantly reduced recoil compared to a standard 1911 when outfitted with a muzzle brake.

This was when the .38 Super swept over the competition world and eventually became a popular cartridge among serious handgun enthusiasts. Unfortunately, the timing was not on the side of the .38 Super as new high-capacity 9mm pistols from Glock, Sig, Beretta, and S&W outshone the .38 Super.

The Super for Defense

For an auto-pistol cartridge, the .38 Special offers high velocity and noticeably less recoil than you’ll feel from a .40 S&W or a .45 ACP. From an external ballistics standpoint, the Super might not be equivalent to a big-block V8 but it’s still a supercharged small block.

The ammunition options in the .38 Super are quite limited and the .38 Super ammo may sometimes be hard to find. Nonetheless, the load performs very well with average accuracy good enough for self-defense purposes.

The .38 Super Today

While the .38 Super isn’t quite as dominant today as it once was, it still has quite a strong following among gun enthusiasts. With the advancements in ballistics technology, there are plenty of other caliber options that fill the gap covered by the .38 Super. Still, the cartridge offers decent ballistics with a few companies loading modern hollow points in the .38 Super to work for those who insist on using it as a serious load for protection.

In terms of competition, the .38 Super has made the jump with a few high-capacity 1911-style pistols available in the caliber. However, there are also a few variants of the .38 Super load that’s developed to address the challenges to feeding the cartridge in double-stack magazine. But for the most part, the .38 Super remains a cartridge for the 1911 design and will probably remain one that manages to survive in obscurity.
