Egypt’s e-payments firm Fawry launches ‘Roaderz’, a digital mobility platform for last-mile delivery

0

Fawry, Egypt’s leading e-payments solutions provider, has signed an agreement with Samer Gharaibeh, Softec Technologies, and Ammar Zawaideh to co-found Roaderz, a crowdsourcing platform that will connect individual couriers and small delivery operations with eCommerce merchants and social sellers.

Roaderz will allow merchants to request a courier on demand or schedule shipment in advance while monitoring their shipment status and delivery progress in real-time. Roaderz will also allow eligible everyday commuters to earn additional income by using their personal vehicles to fulfill shipments and deliveries.

According to Fawry CEO Eng. Ashraf Sabry: “We’re very excited to be introducing Roaderz to the Egyptian market. This is an exciting investment in the logistics industry, where are building operations from the ground up, taking a direct role in operations, quality control, sales, and training. Last-mile delivery is a complex and exciting challenge. We’re entering into this challenge open-eyed and with faith in the power of technological solutions to improve outcomes for smaller merchants by enhancing their commercial reach.”

“We and our partners share the belief that putting our collective resources behind Egypt’s underserved SME space can yield great benefits,” added Sabry. “Our goal with Roaderz is to create a solution which can also have a broader social impact, by putting smaller businesses on a level playing field with larger competitors, providing couriers with flexible work and income opportunities, and reducing carbon emissions by decreasing the average kilometers travelled by a shipment before it reaches the end-user.”

Samer Gharaibeh is a serial entrepreneur and founder and CEO of mylerz, a parcel delivery company which leverages unique technologies to ensure rapid, same-day and next-day fulfillment for customers in the Egyptian market. Mr. Gharaibeh was previously CEO for Africa at Aramex, a multinational courier, logistics, and parcel delivery company.

Softec Technologies specializes in artificial intelligence and visibility solutions for transportation, mobility, logistics, and command & control. Softech helps more than 4,000 organizations achieve logistics excellence with its cloud platforms and on-premises deployments. Led by co-founder Nour Shawky, Softech will build Roaderz’s technology platform, contributing to the venture with its extensive track record and AI-powered solutions for last-mile logistics.

Ammar Zawaideh brings over two decades of experience in executive management, corporate finance, and financial institutions. Between Dubai and Cairo, Mr. Zawaideh has been involved as founding partner with several establishments, and holds a number of advisory roles with regional organizations. Mr. Zawaideh has been named Chief Executive Officer at Roaderz.

Roaderz expects to commence operations during H1 2022 and will significantly contribute to the development of Egypt’s rapidly growing social commerce and eCommerce spaces. With Fawry’s payment solution as a backbone, the platform will facilitate frictionless collection and payments, creating significant value for users by shortening cash flow cycles. Roaderz will also provide increased flexibility for eCommerce merchants and social sellers to attain scale, while guaranteeing the payment and fulfilment link for both sides of a transaction. Further benefits to Roaderz will accrue from its integration with Fawry’s nationwide network of small- and medium-sized retailers.

“Since the establishment of Mylerz in 2019, it has grown increasingly evident that the Egyptian market greatly needs a last-mile courier service aimed particularly at SMEs, social sellers, and e-commerce operations. We figured we could leverage this gap in supply and demand to develop a modern digital platform that provides both merchants and drivers with a frictionless, hassle-free system for transporting merchandise. With our and our partners’ capabilities and talent, we believe that Roaderz will be optimally placed to provide a user experience of the utmost efficiency and reliability”, said Samer Gharaibeh, co-founder of Roaderz and founder and CEO at Mylerz.

Jambo raises $7.5M from Coinbase, 3AC, Alameda Research, Tiger Global etc to launch its play-to-earn & personal finance crypto app in Africa

0
Jambo, the Web3 “Superapp” with a mission to enhance the economic prosperity of Africa’s youth by democratizing access to crypto-based income-generation opportunities, has successfully raised $7.5 million in seed funding to do in Africa what “What WeChat did in China.
Jambo raised the funds from leading investors including Delphi Ventures, Coinbase Ventures, 3 Arrows Capital, Alameda Research, AllianceDAO, Tiger Global, DeFiance Capital, Hashed, Polygon Studios, UOB, Signum Capital, BH Digital, Yield Guild Games and others.
According to James Zhang, co-founder, and CEO of Jambo, “Jambo aims to empower and bootstrap the continent by offering education and earning opportunities. We have the long-term vision of realizing financial prosperity for billions across the continent and are committed to fostering the next generation of Web3 innovators, builders, and creators. Jambo serves as the gateway to Web3, but it is so much more than that. By aggregating these critical services in one ‘superapp,’ we aim to change the lives of billions.”

Jambo also boasts leading angel investors and advisors from a cross-section of the Web3 ecosystem, including Do Kwon, co-founder, and CEO of Terraform Labs; Piers Kicks, Partner at Delphi Digital; Sandeep Nailwal, co-founder and CEO of Polygon; Santiago R Santos, Web3 Investor; Kain Warwick and Jordan Momtazi from decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol Synthetix; and Ryan Selkis, founder & CEO at Messari. Jambo’s investors all share a belief that the Jambo superapp holds the potential to improve the continent’s educational and economic prospects dramatically through access and opportunities enabled by digital assets.

Launched in early 2022, Jambo has already signed up over 12,000 students across 15 countries to complete a curated Web3 curriculum, both online and offline, enabling students to explore opportunities in play-to-earn gaming and decentralized finance (DeFi). These programs are available at colleges and across 600+ physical partner locations. With nearly 60% of the population under 24 years of age and nearly 50% of university graduates in Africa unemployed, connecting them to these educational opportunities could lead to financial prosperity in ways Africans could never have accessed before.
A curated curriculum will lead the next generation of Africans into Web3 — providing them an opportunity to join the “Internet of Value.” By empowering users to access a secure, international, and trustless financial infrastructure, Jambo aims to foster greater financial inclusion in the continent. This will begin with financialized games, where users can engage with play-to-earn initiatives. From there, Jambo will offer access to decentralized finance (DeFi) services, from currency exchanges and remittances to yield-bearing assets.
Underpinning this mission is the notion that Africans are well-versed in the use of smartphones (with adoption expected to reach 64% by 2025) and crypto adoption is surging in Africa, making the Jambo app an intuitive and familiar inroad to the opportunities inherent in Web3.
“We believe the Jambo ecosystem will create a net positive inflow of value to local economies and leapfrog the future of innovation in Africa and we couldn’t be more excited to support Jambo along their journey!” added Kyle Davis, Co-Founder, Chairman of Three Arrows Capital.

Egypt’s OneOrder launches after $1 million fundraise to solve Egyptian restaurants’ supply chain inefficiencies

0

OneOrder, Egypt’s new logistics startup focused on solving Egyptian restaurants’ supply chain inefficiencies, has launched after its successful completion of a $1 million fundraise led by A15, the leading MENA venture capital firm.

Founded by top Egyptian restaurateur Tamer Amer, the founder of Fuego Sushi and Longhorn Texas BBQ – two of Egypt’s most successful restaurant chains,OneOrder is the first company of its kind; addressing the major inefficiencies faced by Egypt’s restaurants when sourcing supplies.

According to Tamer Amer, founder and CEO of OneOrder, “We are delighted to announce our launch and fundraise, and I thank A15 for their outstanding support. Given Egypt’s flourishing restaurant industry and the challenges it faces caused by a fragmented supply chain, OneOrder offers a much needed technology-enabled solution at the perfect time. My experience in the food and beverage industry means I know what restaurant owners need; it is a reliable, timely supply of quality goods, at a consistent price – without the stress of managing various suppliers on a daily basis.

We believe restaurants should be focussed on delivering a high-quality experience and service to their customers without having to worry about sourcing and procurement. We are the platform to deliver that. I’m very excited about the future as our market opportunity is huge. Egypt and the wider region are booming economically, and the food & beverage sector is only growing larger.”

OneOrder is creating a platform to address the significant structural problem faced by Egyptian restaurants – interacting on a regular basis with a number of small, fragmented suppliers and vendors from whom they source their meat, vegetables and equipment. This suboptimal supply chain structure causes: (i) inconsistent and non-transparent pricing, (ii) unreliable quality which, in turn, gets passed onto restaurant customers, and (iii) irregular delivery timing, with supplies often late, limiting restaurants’ daily menu offerings.

OneOrder’s platform means Egyptian restaurants can buy all their needs from one application, with reliable quality, prices and timing.

“We are excited to partner with Tamer to solve one of the main challenges the Food & Beverages  industry faces in the MENA region,” Karim Beshara, General Partner at A15, said. “By leveraging Tamer’s extensive experience as a successful restauranteur and A15’s history of building scalable technology platforms, we will aim to provide restaurants in the region with reliable, convenient and timely supplies that are consistently priced.”

OneOrder’s market opportunity is significant. Egypt has c. 45,000 registered restaurants, but as many as a quarter of a million unregistered – all working and consuming supplies. In 2019, the United States Department of Agriculture estimated the overall Food & Beverages (“F&B”) / Hospitality market in Egypt to be $13 billion, with OneOrder expecting that figure to have increased substantially since then.

Market drivers are also compelling. The latest research by Fitch Ratings, the global ratings agency, forecasts 5.3% GDP growth in Egypt for 2021-2023, driven by strong private consumption and increasing tourism. Egypt is also building new cities such as New Alamein, with hotels and commerce expanding across the country – all of which is favourable for the F&B sector.

There are similar restaurant supply chain inefficiencies in other countries in MENA and OneOrder aspires to, over time, expand its proposition geographically across the region.

Alongside Mr. Amer, OneOrder’s management team has an excellent track record in the F&B sector. It includes Karim Maurice as co-founder and Chief Technology Officer. Mr. Maurice founded Cube – Egypt’s equivalent of OpenTable, the global online restaurant-reservation service, as well as Bitroot, a “CTO-as-a-Service” for early-stage ventures.

Joining OneOrder’s Board is Moataz Abdelrahman, who is currently serving as Coca-Cola General Manager for Egypt, Libya and Sudan. Also joining as non-executive Chairman of the board is private equity veteran Karim Hassan, currently the CEO of Ankh. Karim brings 20 years of investment & operational experience in the US, Europe and the Middle East.

How To Shine A New Light In Your Home By Switching To Solar

0

The sense of freedom that comes with owning your own home is only amplified when you add to it in ways that reflect your values, needs, and lifestyle. Renewable energy isn’t an exception: it can really do a lot to renew your home environment. If you’ve already looked into this option, and are ready to give it a try, there’s plenty of information that can guide you with the first few steps of switching to solar.

So here are the steps that you’ll have to take when you start making the shift – having an idea of them will help you once you’re ready to get started.

1. Take Stock of Your Home’s Suitability

It’s important to get a good feel for the elements of your home that will contribute to a solar panel system’s effectiveness – or potentially take away from it. Make sure to have a look at the following:

  • Roofing material. Asphalt is ideal for solar panels, and will cost you the least, but tile, rubber membrane, and metal are also viable.
  • Roof’s age. The easiest rooftops to work with are those that are less than 10 years old. That said, solar panels can be installed on an older roof that is in very good condition.
  • Amount of shade. As you might imagine, the less shade you have hitting your roof, the better off you’ll be when it comes to solar energy. Keep in mind as well that solar panels function most effectively on south-facing roofs.

While you’re figuring out how many solar panels you will need for your home, you can also make small changes and eco-friendly upgrades. For example, switching out incandescent bulbs for LEDs or CFLs, can do a great deal to help to improve your home’s energy efficiency, as well as save you money once you switch to solar energy.

2. Explore Installer Options

With solar energy’s rising accessibility, there are countless companies you could work with to install a solar panel system. Figuring out which one is right for you is going to come down to a few different factors. But you should keep the following in mind as you research and compare options:

  • Look into licensing. You can do this research online; just make sure that the company you want has all of the state licensure that they need to be considered legitimate. It’s also helpful to know if they have a strong track record of completed installations.
  • References can help. If you have friends or family members who have successfully installed solar panel systems, talk to them about their thoughts and recommendations. They can tell you whether certain companies’ costs were reasonable, and if their systems are still working well now.
  • Ask for quotes and site evaluations. Most installers provide free site evaluations and quotes, so make sure you take advantage of this. They should also have a detailed look at your typical energy consumption, costs, and needs, so you figure out what the right size system would be.

Once you’ve weighed your choices, and decided who you think will be the most thorough in installing your system, you’ll be ready to finalize your switch to solar.

3. Begin the Installation Phase

After figuring out the size and pricing you want for your solar panel system, it’ll be time for the installer to take over with the technical aspect of the installation. This is a multi-step process that will last several days, and should include getting permits from your city or locality, as well as sending applications for incentives to utility companies. Any rebates they can send will help decrease the upfront costs you pay.

The actual installation will take place once you have all of your permits, the system has been fully designed, and your installers have set a date. This process is actually shorter than the lead-up, and should take around four to six hours. After that, the installer will help you with the final inspection, and walk you through how to set up your billing arrangement with the utility company.

4. Fire Up Your Connection

There is a last step after installation, of course, and it’s important: you have to get permission to operate from the utility company to finalize your switch to solar. Depending upon your state and utility provider, it could take several days and up to a few weeks to finish this. But once it’s complete, and your system has been evaluated as sound, you should be in the clear to start enjoying your new solar connection.

A Brighter Future With Solar Energy

Switching to solar is straightforward, but it’s certainly not a single-step process. Having a clearer idea of what it takes to make this change can help you cover all your bases: if you’re not going in blind, you can make better financial, personal, and spatial preparations. Then, once your solar panel system is in place, it’ll be easier to take a step back and appreciate this move you’ve made towards energy independence and a cleaner environmental impact.

For most homes, owning a solar system makes economic sense as Solar saves you money every minute from day 1 of installation. If you own the system, you’re also building equity value in your home and you are also making a positive impact on the environment over your lifetime. Going solar just makes sense and here is how to estimate your savings with solar here.

What are the essential features of a smart TV?

0

Every one of us has smartphones nowadays. However, some television companies also claim to have launched their smart TVs. However, having mere internet connectivity doesn’t make a TV smart. So, if you are planning to buy a smart TV, you should first check out its must-have inbuilt features. Otherwise, anyone might fool you into purchasing a regular TV. But, companies like Bravo telecom online television  might be a good choice.

Features

So, let us discuss the features that you should never miss while buying a Smart TV.

User interface

Speed is the most vital requirement of a smart TV, and Blu-ray disc players take an eternity to load their main menu. So, if you are investing in a Smart TV, you should thoroughly check its speed.

Streaming platforms

Nowadays, televisions serve a million purposes other than just watching shows. If you have paid their subscription charges, you can watch movies and shows from any online streaming platform such as Amazon Prime, Netflix, DAZN, CuriosityStream, etc. So, if you do not want to deprive yourself of a vast screen movie watch party, check this feature before buying.

However, for bufferless streaming, you will also need fast internet connectivity along with a fast TV. Instead of getting a cable connection, you can subscribe to these online streaming platforms and enjoy seamless streaming.

High-quality streaming

Not every system supports high-quality streaming. So, before buying any TV, you should research thoroughly if your desired machine supports high-quality HD streaming.

Music streaming

If you are a music lover and want to have a gala experience of listening to it, you must check if the TV allows music streaming. You might listen to music even at places where you haven’t installed the audio system. However, there is another step in this.

You have to check if the music system is available on your TV and compatible with your favorite music app. Most TVs do not have Spotify, Shazam, SoundCloud. Also, you should check the sound quality of the TV speakers. So, it would help if you got a bookshelf speaker to enjoy a wholesome experience.

Media Player

Not only movie streaming, but also check if the TV is equipped with a media player. You might have your favorite videos or family albums, or traveling pictures that you can view on an enlarged screen. Just switch off your room light and switch on your TV. Nothing more can add to the exquisite experience of laughing at fun travel videos with your friends and family.

Final Thoughts

So before jumping to any conclusion, consider all these options and other features like games, app store, etc. In this way, you will avoid unnecessary installments on your TV.

Here are the four African startups selected for latest Catalyst Fund fintech accelerator.

0

Four African startups are among the six selected by Catalyst Fund for the 10th cohort of its accelerator for fintech companies building solutions designed to improve the resilience of underserved and climate vulnerable communities in emerging markets.

Catalyst Fund, managed by BFA Global, is supported by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), JPMorgan Chase & Co, and PayPal, and fiscally sponsored by Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors.

The organisation explored the role of fintech innovation in increasing the resilience of climate-vulnerable populations, and based on these insights., it has chosen its next cohort. Six companies, four of which are from Africa, have been selected to participate.

They are Kenya’s AquaRech, a platform for fish farmers to source quality feed, reduce growth cycles by monitoring via sensor technology, find new routes to market, and access credit to enable growth; Nigeria’s ColdHubs, a “plug and play” modular, solar-powered walk-in cold room, for 24/7 off-grid storage and preservation of perishable foods, enabled through digital payments; Kenyan/Nigerian startup TopUp Mama, an online B2B platform for restaurants to purchase all inventory required at wholesale prices; and Kenya’s Tulix, a digital payment wallet to enhance visibility of funds and collaboration between African migrants and their beneficiaries back home.

The cohort is completed by companies from Mexico and Argentine, who will join Catalyst Fund’s existing portfolio of 55 companies and receive catalytic capital, bespoke and expert-led venture building support from BFA Global, and direct connections with investors, corporate innovators, and talent networks that can help them scale.

Catalyst Fund will continue to look at how inclusive fintech innovators can help vulnerable populations become more resilient.

“Low-income and underserved communities in emerging markets will bear the brunt of the climate crisis, yet contributed the least to it. The impacts of climate risks are predicted to be expansive, affecting communities in wide ranging and unforeseen ways. It’s fundamental to invest in solutions that build resilience to shocks and ensure these solutions are reaching the most vulnerable,” said Maelis Carraro, managing director of Catalyst Fund.

“We have explored models that push the frontier of current thinking around resilience-building for climate vulnerable people, and we are energized to explore how fintech innovation can help these populations, by supporting pioneering entrepreneurs in Kenya, Nigeria and Mexico. We look forward to exploring this innovation frontier for fintech with the invaluable support of JPMorgan Chase, FCDO, and PayPal.”

How to Create High-Quality Website Content

0

When it comes to websites, content is everything. Aside from content, most websites these days look the same, so your goal is to stand out. You don’t want people to dismiss your website as a generic option and avoid it. The issue is that it is difficult to write quality content or create engaging videos to meet the needs of your audience. Here are some pointers to help you make it happen.

Look for a fresh perspective.

You might believe that almost all types of articles have already been published on the internet. Whether you want to talk about weight loss or travel, you’ll find high-quality articles written by talented writers. The key is to look for a different perspective. If you write from a different point of view, the content will be more interesting. So, don’t get tired of searching the web for existing content until you come up with an interesting idea.

Check your grammar.

Before you hit the publish button, double-check your grammar. After all, grammatical errors instantly turn people off. It doesn’t matter how good the content is; if there are grammatical or punctuation errors, they might not want to do business with you. You can use apps to check and edit your posts as needed to ensure accuracy when preparing your page.

Make certain that the content is not plagiarized.

You don’t want plagiarized content because it can get you in trouble with the law. To assist you in browsing other online content, use a plagiarism checker. To pass the plagiarism check, you may need to change a few phrases.

Ask for assistance.

You do not have to go through this alone. To ensure quality results, you can seek assistance from experts such as those at EXPRE Digital Ltd. This company will create high-quality content based on your specifications. Furthermore, producing these results consistently can be difficult. So you’d rather have the experts handle things for you.

Research and analyze

Finding unique content can be difficult. That doesn’t mean you should always use that strategy. Another option is to look into existing materials and cite them in your content. People will read what you write as long as you analyze them and provide a unique perspective. To avoid legal issues, don’t forget to cite your sources.

Recognize the audience’s requirements.

Knowing who you want to please is essential when creating content. Recognize their wants and needs. When looking for information, you can also use online search tools to identify potential customers’ keywords. Again, the content is determined by what these people want to see.

There’s nothing wrong with reposting popular but old content.

Another strategy is to repurpose previously popular content. However, you cannot publish it in its current form. You can make a few changes or add more details. The content has previously gone viral, and there is a chance that it will do so again.

These pointers will not guarantee success, but they can help you improve your content. So keep trying until you’ve satisfied all of your potential customers.

Is the iPhone Fold already behind schedule? We’ll have to wait for a long time.

0

Are you one of those who can’t wait for the “iPhone Fold” to arrive? We’ll have to wait again. According to the newest speculations, the launch would take place in 2025 at the earliest.

There was a point when the foldable iPhone was predicted to be released in 2023, particularly by Display Supply Chain Consultants (with Ross Young at its head). Today, the company is modifying its projections, and the “next generation” iPhone isn’t scheduled to hit our shores until 2025.

“Apple does not seem to be in a rush to join the foldable smartphone market,” according to DSCC, “and it may possibly come beyond 2025.”

Apple, on the other hand, would keep an eye on a different sort of foldable screen with a 20-inch diagonal. This screen would enable it to launch a new product category in the MacBook lineup, with a laptop that folds into a full-size keyboard and unfolds into an XXL screen.

It remains to be seen if DSCC’s forecasts will prove to be correct, as they have in the past. Possibly if the foldable iPhone isn’t anticipated until 2025, the “new” MacBook won’t arrive until 2026 or even 2027. You could have fallen for a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold or Z Flip by then…

Google.com has a darker dark option that is better suited to OLED displays.

0

Users of the Google search page have had access to a new night mode that displays a completely black hue, which is better suited to OLED and AMOLED panels, for some time now. Users were able to try out the Dark theme for a short time before it vanished as swiftly as it appeared.

Only two appearance options are offered in the settings for many more users of the Google.com search page: a light theme and a dark theme, the latter consisting of a light gray display. Google has recently used A/B Testing (the distribution of a new version of the search engine to a small, random group of individuals) to suggest a new dark or night theme.

The advent of this completely black theme (its hexadecimal code is #000000), which was announced on the company’s Twitter account a fortnight ago, could allow for a more intense display and is suited for fixed OLED screens and AMOLED screens of smartphones.

Although the American behemoth has not specified a specific timeframe for the wider rollout of this dark look, if the testing are successful, we can expect it to appear on our search engines this year.

Truth Social, A Trump-backed App, Is At The Top Of Apple’s App Store Charts

0

Truth Social, a new social media platform backed by former President Donald Trump, sat at the top of Apple’s free apps download charts as of Tuesday morning.

The platform unveiled a soft launch late Sunday, according to Reuters, with many users prompted to join a waitlist. Some who tried to sign up reported glitches when attempting to create an account, though such issues are common in early app releases.

Truth Social has been delayed several times. The full launch was first planned for Feb. 21, but that date has been pushed back to March 31. The app is a product of the Trump Media & Technology Group, led by former Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif. The company has planned to go public via a merger with the Digital World Acquisition Corp., a special purpose acquisition corporation, or SPAC, with a market cap of more than $3 billion. DWAC disclosed in December that two financial regulators had opened probes into communications with Trump’s firm prior to the deal announcement.

In December, DWAC and TMTG announced agreements to raise $1 billion from a group of investors.

But those funds would not become available until the merger closes. Shares of Digital World were up about 14% on Tuesday. Based on screenshots on the Truth Social’s app listing page, the platform’s design most closely resembles Twitter, one of the social media platforms that suspended Trump in the wake of the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.

The platform aims to distinguish itself through its content moderation philosophy, with the website calling it “America’s ‘Big Tent’ social media platform that encourages an open, free, and honest global conversation without discriminating against political ideology.” Even so, Nunes previously told Fox Business the company will have content moderation to ensure it remains a “family-friendly” space.

Facebook and Twitter refuted claims that they discriminated against conservatives and their content.

Trump and his supporters railed against mainstream social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook while he was in office, claiming the platforms discriminated against conservatives in their content moderation practices. Those platforms have denied those claims, and while on occasion they’ve acknowledged mistakes that were later reversed, say their moderators simply try to enforce their public community guidelines.

Trump’s suspension from both platforms toward the end of his term in office reinvigorated his supporters against the platforms. Several new or less popular social media apps that promised a more hands-off approach to content moderation, such as Getty, Parler and Gab, saw increased attention in the wake of Jan. 6.

A lenient approach to content moderation could present tricky questions for app distributors such as Apple and Google, as they did when users flocked to Parler in the wake of the Capitol riot, calling for violence.

Kenyan Tech Innovators Have Launched A Digital Platform That Offers Free Legal Services

0

Kenyan tech innovators have launched a digital platform that offers free legal services.

Have you ever wondered how you could sue someone or if your employer or relative is legally shortchanging you? Then you Google but all you get is American or European law? The process of finding good Kenyan legal advice online is frustrating and often leaves you wondering if it’s really worth it.

This is why it’s exciting that Kenyans will soon profit from the use of technology in the legal field, according to the Kenyanlaw.com platform, which is aimed to make access to justice more efficient and convenient.

So what does it do and how does it work?

Kenyanlaw.com is a legal database that provides free access to Kenyan legal resources, information, and services. Contract forms such as house rental agreements, house help contracts, and car sale agreements are among the platform’s resources. Harman Grewal, Managing Director of Kenyanlaw.com, said the platform is a game-changer and a timely solution.

“After much research, we realized people do not have easy access or knowledge of what the law is in Kenya. We have therefore created a digital platform that aims to be the largest database of legal information, services and resources in Kenya,” he averred.

Is it easy to use?

Kenyanlaw.com also provides easy-to-understand advice on legal processes in Kenya, such as how to get married, how to buy land, and what Kenyan law says about drones. For an easy-to-understand framework, all of the manuals are written as three-pagers.

The portal provides free services, making it exceedingly simple to hire a lawyer for both simple and complex problems such as patents. The platform, according to the managing director, will make it simple for everyone to understand laws by providing simple article summaries on legal processes in Kenya, which citizens can read about things like what to do after a car accident or how to properly terminate a domestic worker’s contract.

“No one wants to get caught on the wrong side of the law, we often do; as a result of not knowing the law. Unfortunately, ignorance is not a defence but fortunately, it is not a sentence,” Grewal said.

“There are free contract templates available so people can see how the process of certain legal procedures is to be conducted. Oftentimes people are taken advantage of because they did not know the law.

He added: “One goal for Kenyanlaw.com is to make it as easy as possible to know what the law exactly is,” he added.

So, what’s the other goal?

The second purpose is to make it as simple as possible to discover a legal service provider by following a flow chart that leads to a legal service provider’s digital doorstep. This implies that even if you’re looking for a specific lawyer, such as a sports lawyer in Kenya or a personal injury lawyer in Meru, the website can help you find them.

The AI Lawyer, according to Isaac Cohen, Creative Director of Kenyanlaw.com, is the biggest triumph since it allows Kenyans to simply ask a legal question by recording themselves speaking and then being texted or emailed a video explanation. Furthermore, customers can use AI technology to connect with a nearby expert.

“The biggest breakthrough for us so far is the development of the legal Ai. This is an automatic legal response system that can respond to any and all legal queries. Questions can be asked in any format, including text, audio and even video in any language,” he explained.

This enables those who are unable to read and those who speak a minority language to gain access to justice through the platform.

He added that “This could finally be the solution for Kenya as most offences happen due to a lack of knowledge. Imagine if, your rights have been violated. And now you know what the processes are and you even know who to talk to and that it would even be possible to access justice.

The two tech pioneers have begun cooperating with Kenyan legal stakeholders and are forging relationships to help Kenyans gain quicker access to justice.

5 ways low-code development can help small businesses

0

By Hyther Nizam, President – MEA, Zoho Corp.

No-code and low-code software development platforms are gaining popularity in recent times—especially among SMBs and SMEs—for their dynamic ability to quickly meet customisation and automation needs within limited budgets. And according to Gartner low-code platforms will account for more than 65 percent of application development by 2024.

What is low-code development? Designing and building web and mobile applications with little or no coding is called low-code development. Visual builders, intelligible code, snippets, and templates are all included to make business apps quickly and easily.

Because of the ease of use of low-code, they can function as a platform for small and medium businesses to automate and run their entire back-office operations. Anyone from a project manager to an IT specialist can create and deploy cross-platform apps for multiple functions like sales, marketing, finance, HR, internal administration, employee collaboration, etc. Further, low-code platforms can even help set up front-end applications such as customer portal apps for users to log in and get access to information.

Benefits for using low-code are as follows:

1. It’s cost-efficient

Low-code platforms are naturally designed for business users. This allows businesses to empower functional teams and users to build applications quickly, which without low-code can sometimes take months or years to develop. Moreover, low-code projects require minimum programming expertise and, because most platforms are cloud-based, organisations save money on overhead costs. Businesses that adopt low-code also save money that would otherwise be spent on hiring and training app developers.

2. It’s easy to use – for everyone

Low-code platforms allow business and IT functions to work together to meet organisational needs. The platforms utilize visual interfaces through flexible drag and drop features, making them user-friendly and accessible to professionals from varying proficiency levels.

3. Works for both simple and comprehensive processes

Low-code is suitable for both simple and complex solutions. The development platforms support not only one-off projects and ad-hoc needs, but also major strategic programs like ERPs that integrate with a company’s existing processes.

4. The options are unlimited

Companies can leverage low-code platforms to build applications that cover a range of uses. They can do everything from modernizing and automating processes, constructing process automation solutions, business process management applications, and more. Additionally, the flexibility of the low-code platforms allows business teams to stay ahead of changing market needs by modifying live applications and applying changes quickly.

5. Low-code facilitates growth

Low-code offers scalability, enabling businesses to adjust their processes, add new functionality, and remove existing ones as they grow and become more complex, all without having to migrate from one solution to another. This allows you to begin by managing a small codebase and steadily progress at your own speed. The rapid roll-out of apps is made possible by a comprehensive ecosystem of intuitive visual builders, ready-to-use code snippets, form and report templates, and built-in connectors.

Grow at your own pace

In the past year, SMBs and SMEs have learned the importance of digitisation as well as being able to pivot and adapt at need. Adding low-code development platforms to their long-term digital toolkit will provide businesses the customization, flexibility, and resilience needed to thrive in unpredictable futures.

Small businesses can make low-code a formal, self-sustaining function, but to do that means crafting a vision, setting clear goals, and putting a plan in place to execute methodically. Even if businesses start small, over time those micro apps and apps built on the platform grow in scope and complexity and end up becoming a sustainable growth engine for business.

Five Simple Strategies to Save Time Doing Your Accounting

0

It’s crucial for all businesses, big and small, to keep on top of their accounting. The first reason is so that they may accurately document how much they’ve earned and spent during the tax year. And send the right income, expenses, and tax calculation to the government by the proposed deadline.

Moreover, keeping company accounts in order ensures;

  • Business owners pay their staff the right amount and on time.
  • They can see how the business has progressed over time financially.
  • They can set forecasts for the company’s future.
  • And keep a financial footprint of the business’s activities.

To keep on top of your business accounts, here are five simple strategies to help you streamline and save time on accounting.

  1. Invest in Accounting Software

According to Quickbooks, business owners could save 8 hours a month if they used accounting software. Accounting software often consists of the following perks and benefits, which helps simplify accounting;

  • View business bank transactions in one place.
  • Track and send professional invoices.
  • Upload receipts and track expenses.
  • Manage payroll.
  • Calculate and manage VAT.
  • Avoid fraudulent activity, such as forged checks.

In the UK, vat registered businesses will have to use Making Tax Digital software to submit returns to HMRC by April 2022. Eventually, all business owners, including sole traders and the self-employed will need to do this also.

If the above applies to you, consider searching for accounting software or QuickBooks hosting services in your country so that you do not only cut down the time spent labouring on account tasks but to also comply with the law.

  1. Open a Separate Bank Account

Having expenses, or invoices paid into your account, among household bills and personal purchases, will make accounting much harder than it needs to be.

If you want to simplify your accounting activities, set up an account, separate from your personal account exclusively for all business-related transactions.

If you are the director of a registered company, you are often required by law to set up a separate official business account, to keep track of all the companies income and outgoings.

Self-employed individuals, however, may be able to open a separate regular account.

To check if any business banking rules apply to you, contact your local government for more information.

  1. Keep Payments Digital

If possible, try to keep all of the business’s outgoings and income digital. Because adding cash to the mix can make the accounting process very complicated.

As such business fundraising, loans, credit cards, savings for the business should be kept in digital form and occur only in your business bank account.

  1. Hire an Accountant

Depending on the complexity of your company and the revenue your business generates, it may be wise to consider hiring an accountant experienced in the challenging areas you’re unable to navigate.

There are various areas of accounting that without prior study or research, company owners may not be aware of.

For example, in England, income is taxed based on the amount received. For those earning over £100,000, they could be subject to 60% tax!

To help steer through accounting issues such as this, it’s wise to consider hiring an expert accountant you trust to manage your business’s financials.

  1. Start Now

It’s important, if you haven’t already started, to begin simplifying your accounting process with the tips above now. So that you can quickly begin diverting your attention to other areas of the business that need it most.

From sourcing accounting software to setting up a bank account exclusively for your company. Each step taken to simplify your accounting will go a long way in helping to eliminate time spent keeping on top of payroll, tax calculations, financial forecasts, and so forth.

Congolese startup Jambo secures $7.5 million seed funding to help Africa connect to the web3 ecosystem.

0

Jambo, a Congolese startup with operations in several African countries, has raised $7.5 million in seed funding to enable the continent achieve financial prosperity through its web3 ecosystem. Coinbase and Alameda Research lead the investment round.

The new funding will help the startup to continue its mission of creating Africa’s web3 user acquisition portal, which will allow users to study, play, and earn all at the same time, while also democratizing access to crypto-based income-generation options.

Jambo is also testing over ten play-to-earn games, which will be released in the next months, according to the company.

Jambo’s co-founder and CEO, James Zhang, stated that the company’s application aims to onboard people to web3 across Africa utilizing a dual approach that allows users to perform web2 and web3 activities.

The startup’s main user acquisition strategy, according to the CEO, is to double African airtime and data to allow customers to save money while using the app, adding that it partners with telecom carriers to acquire a 70% discount and sells directly to its consumers at a 50% discount from the original cost.

James also said the company is looking to popularize the Web3 play-to-earn games which is not so popular in the region due to lack of infrastructure (Guild) to create them. More importantly, he said Jambo doesn’t plan to take a cut from its users’ earnings as revenue would come from web2 model spanning from charging advertising dollars and commissions from selling airtime and data.

Over 12,000 students from 15 African countries, including Nigeria, Ethiopia, Zambia, Uganda, Kenya, and, of course, Congo, have already joined up to explore opportunities in play-to-earn gaming and decentralized finance, according to the startup (DeFi).

Health, tech leaders call for strengthening of supply chain

0

Top health and tech stakeholders in the continent have called for the strengthening of national supply chains by focusing on the role of data and technology in policy and regulatory frameworks, manufacturing processes and resource mobilization in order to augment the continent’s post-COVID-19 heath security systems.

The experts, who were drawn from the Ministries of Health of five East African nations, were speaking in Nairobi during the Africa Healthcare Supply Chain dialogue 2022, which saw the convention of the continent’s multilateral agencies, tech and financial sectors, manufacturers and donor organizations who shared insights and mapped out opportunities for the continent’s healthcare system post-pandemic.

According to Health Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Rashid Raman, every link of the health supply chain is of great importance as it ensures that essential vaccines, medicines and healthcare products make it from manufacturing plants to persons who are most vulnerable across the continent.

“Africa continues to lag behind in adoption and use of technology to manage healthcare supply chains. The continent’s healthcare supply chains should be designed in such a way that they are capable of adapting to shifting demands and requirements for routine products and emergency situations such as COVID-19 and other pandemics,” said Health CAS Dr. Rashid Aman.

Healthcare is one of the sectors hardest hit by supply chain challenges during the Covid pandemic. Stakeholders in health service provision including governments and industry players have been called on to leverage technology to mitigate against risk, build efficiencies and resilience moving forward.

“Strong supply chains help ensure that essential healthcare products and services including medicines, vaccines and resources make it from the warehouse to the populations when and where they need them. Every link of the supply chain counts and critically we need to premise these cycles on strong adoption of data and technology,” said Xetova CEO Bramuel Mwalo while speaking at the summit.

The forum convened by Xetova, Safaricom and the Ministry of Health drew participation from Government officials in Rwanda, the DRC, Uganda and Tanzania with the aim of identifying opportunities for collaboration between private sector, public institutions and key stakeholders to redefine access to health care across the continent.

Safaricom’s Chief Enterprise Business Officer said, “Our aim is to use using artificial intelligence and big data to power a more proactive, data-driven decision-making processes in the health sector. This will enhance national consumption-planning for essential healthcare products and their just-in-time delivery to the various healthcare facilities.”

The summit, which will be held across other key hubs of African regions will consequently move to establish collaborations with governments and partners to strengthen national supply chains, focusing on data and technology, policy and regulatory frameworks, operations and processes, and financing and resource mobilization.

7 Tips For Watching Movies In Virtual Reality

0

Technology has grown and improved the way people watch movies. Gone are the days when movies are used to provide white background noise; instead, they now give an immersive experience with high-quality video and sound.

You can now enjoy watching movies in 3D at the comfort of your home as opposed to going to the movie theaters. By watching a movie in VR, you are getting new dimensions to your movie experience.

VR headsets are a requirement for enjoying movies in virtual reality, and they tend to vary widely in quality, with each type having different features that enable you to watch VR movies. As a beginner, watching movies in VR can be challenging, but with these tips, you’ll be well on your way to becoming a pro.

Choose A Way Of Watching

There are different ways of watching a movie in 3D using a VR headset, and you’ll need to find what works for you. You can use an app with great features to stream a movie, such as Virtual Desktop.

For instance, an app allows you to alter the screen’s distance from you, the screen’s background color, and lets you choose a suitable size for your screen.

Alternatively, you can connect your desktop to your phone by dropping the downloaded video from your computer onto your phone. Using your computer will not change your perspective even with movement around you.

You can also stream from YouTube as it offers 3D videos, making it easy to know what you’ll enjoy.

Find A Preferred Format

There are four different video formats you can be entertained by on your VR headset. You can opt for 2D, which may not have special VR features and will be the same as watching on a computer. This type of video isn’t recommended when using VR headsets as it won’t give you a different experience.

Alternatively, you can go for 180 or 360-degree videos that give you a chance to turn your head and be amused by your environment while using the VR set. These videos can be found on YouTube, Facebook, and other websites, and then used with your headset.

Most people prefer 3D videos, which can be obtained from Blu-ray with high visuals. Full virtual reality videos, which allow you to experience a fully 3D-rendered environment, may be one of the best options.

Take Breaks

As much as virtual reality offers an amazing experience, it can also challenge and strain the physical body. When you start watching, be prepared to have a feeling of unwellness, which may cause you to vomit.

When this happens, you should consider taking breaks between movies. It’s highly recommended to take ten to fifteen-minute breaks after thirty minutes of watching. Taking breaks between watching movies will also help with your vision.

Because you’ll be looking at a nearby screen that tells your eyes that some objects are far away, your vision may become distorted. You should also expect dizziness and disorientation if you don’t take breaks between scenes.

Sit Down

Although most people associate VR headsets with standing, sitting down when watching movies in virtual reality is highly advisable. Virtual reality can alter the brain’s ability to tell whether your body is in motion or not.

As a result, it may be hard to keep yourself grounded and may end up falling and hurting yourself. You should buy the right type of hardware for sitting down and one that won’t affect your experience.

Have A Clear Space Around You

Safety comes first in virtual reality, as you can get hurt if not careful. VR offers you a mind-blowing experience that may alter reality. You’ll have to approach VR differently as some headsets may not be user-friendly.

Avoid using VR outside as the ground may not be leveled. It can also be affected by bright sunlight, so using it inside may be the best choice. When watching virtual reality, you’ll want enough space between you and any object that might cause you to stumble and fall.

Be Ready For A Worst-Case Scenario

The chances of vomiting and feeling sick are very high when experiencing virtual reality for the first time. As a result, you should always have a bucket close by if motion sickness overpowers you.

Bottom Line

Before beginning your virtual reality journey, do your research and find a VR headset that works for you. Take into account the quality of videos you want and how you want to enjoy them. When getting the headsets, settle on hardware that can be used for a long time.

In addition, take your time and build on your experience. You can begin watching shorter movies until you are comfortable with the motion sickness that comes with it.

Cellulant Co-Founder Ken Njoroge Joins MarketForce as Board Chairman.

0

Ken Njoroge, a co-founder of Cellulant and former Group CEO, has joined MarketForce as Board Chairman. MarketForce recently raised $40 million in its Series A round of funding, and the entrepreneur was a part of it.

Ken is well-known for his work at Cellulant, where he was the co-founder and Group CEO for 17 years. He and Bolaji Akinboro co-founded Cellulant in 2003, and together they built the company into what it is today.

The self-styled evangelist of mobile commerce said that he left his CEO role at Cellulant as he wanted to spend more time with family. This was also in the midst of the fallout of “a major internal crisis” that rocked the company in August 2020.

Cellulant was founded in Kenya around the same time as Nigerian payment companies Interswitch and eTranzact. These three have been pivotal to accelerating digital payments on two of the continent’s most tech-driven markets.

The business pivoted to digital payments soon after. Today, it is an internationally acclaimed company that serves 12 markets through partnerships with about 28 mobile operators and 31 banks.

Ken Njoroge, a co-founder of Cellulant, has joined MarketForce at a time when the company is poised for a bright future. After completing a pre-Series A round, MarketForce has raised $40 million.

The round was led by V8 Capital Partners – a London and Lagos based African-focused investment vehicle – with participation from Ten13 VC, SOSV Select Fund, Vu Ventures, Vastly Valuable Ventures, Uncovered Fund, along several existing investors; Reflect Ventures, Greenhouse Capital, Century Oak Capital and Remapped Ventures. The oversubscribed round was made up of equity and debt.

MarketForce was co-founded in 2018 by Tesh Mbaabu and Mesongo Sibuti and is now a leading B2B commerce and fintech marketplace that empowers informal merchants in Africa.

The firm helps these informal merchants to order, pay and receive inventory digitally and conveniently, access financing, collect digital payments and make extra money by reselling digital financial services such as airtime, electricity tokens and bill payments.

With this round of funding, MarketForce plans to scale merchant inventory financing through a BNPL offering, grow deeper in existing markets and avail more digital financial and banking services through its extensive merchant network. MarketForce has a team of 400 and intends to double the team before the end of the year.

The same struggle between the Pixel 6 and the Galaxy S22, quick charging that are unreachable in reality.

0

Samsung just unveiled the Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra smartphones. As a reminder, the batteries in these three smartphones have capacities of 3,700 mAh, 4,500 mAh, and 5,000 mAh, respectively. In terms of charging, the maximum power available is 25 W in wired mode. Nonetheless, the S22+ and S22 Ultra support 45 W fast charging (via a charger not included). However, unlike the Google Pixel 6, whose rapid charging at 30 W is a lie, the Samsung Galaxy S22 + and Ultra’s 45 W charger do not provide much in actuality.
.
The measurements are taken by GSMArena site’s writers he used three different chargers to test the charging times of the new S22+ and S22 Ultra: the original Samsung versions of 25 W and 45 W, as well as a third-party charger of 65 W. The first two have the letters PD (Power Delivery) and PPS (Programmable Power Supply) imprinted on them, whereas the third has simply the letters PD.

The Samsung Galaxy S22+ indicates a charging rate of 62 percent after 30 minutes of charging with the 25 W charger; this figure increases to 64 percent with the 65 W charger. The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra has the same results: 61 percent with the 25 W charger, 60 percent with the 45 W charger. In 30 minutes, the 65 W charger will recharge 65 percent of the Ultra battery.

When fully charged, the findings are identical. For the S22+, it takes 1 hour and 1 minute with the 45 W charger, 1 hour and 2 minutes with the 25 W charger; for the S22 Ultra, it takes 59 minutes with the 45 W charger, 1 hour and 4 minutes with the 25 W charger. Finally, with the 65 W block, the charging time jumps to 1 hour and 2 minutes.

Samsung claims on the Samsung Galaxy S22 Super’s product page: “The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra supports 45 W ultra rapid charging. You receive enough battery in less time than it takes to say hello as soon as you plug it in “..

In reality, the difference between a full charge and a 25 W charge is 5 minutes. In percentage terms, this is an 8 percent difference. In summary, unless you are in a rush, you can save the 50 euros for the 45 W charger and replace it with a 25 W charger for 20 euros…

In sub-Saharan Africa, approximately 90% of household retail transactions are in cash, and delivered through a network of about 100 million MSMEs. Retail payments on the continent are expected to top $2.1 trillion by 2025, and MarketForce aims to digitize a large portion of these offline transactions.

Co-founded in 2018 by Tesh Mbaabu and Mesongo Sibuti, MarketForce is a leading B2B Commerce and Fintech marketplace that empowers informal merchants in Africa to order, pay and receive inventory digitally and conveniently, access financing, collect digital payments and make extra money by reselling digital financial services such as airtime, electricity tokens and bill payments.

MarketForce runs an asset-light operating model and is currently operational in 5 markets (Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda) with the merchant super app, RejaReja – which offers informal merchants next-day delivery for hundreds of SKUs from the leading FMCG brands. One year ago, MarketForce served about 5,000 customers: now, that figure has grown more than twenty-fold to 100,000 merchants, processing 6,000 daily transactions, with the average transaction size tripling and revenue growing 27x over the same period.

On the supplier side, MarketForce monetizes through availing real-time market intelligence dashboards to FMCGs. MarketForce counts top consumer brands and financial service providers such as Nestle, Pepsi, Flour Mills of Nigeria, Bidco Africa, Chandaria Industries, Kapa Oil, Safaricom, Cellulant, Lami and Pezesha, to mention a few, as its partners.

With this round of funding, MarketForce plans to scale merchant inventory financing through a BNPL offering, grow deeper in existing markets and avail more digital financial and banking services through its extensive merchant network. MarketForce has a team of 400 and intends to double the team before the end of the year.

“Our goal is be the ultimate partner for informal merchants, empowering them to maximize their profits and grow in a digital age by getting better service, assortment, and access to new revenue opportunities, outfitting them with the technology and support they need to transform themselves from simple FMCG outlets to comprehensive financial service hubs for the continent’s last-mile communities,” said Tesh Mbaabu, Cofounder and CEO of MarketForce. “We are targeting to serve over 1 million active merchants on our platform in Sub-Saharan Africa by 2025.”

“Marketforce demonstrates what we see as a triple threat with regards to returns. A strong executive team with an amazing track record, an expansive untapped market of informal retailers across the continent and a business model that scales extremely quickly. We are proud to partner with Tesh and Mesongo in accelerating the digitization of the African retail ecosystem which will help improve the lives of millions of informal african merchants,” said Tobi Oke, General Partner at V8 Capital and member of the MarketForce board.

Top 3 Tips for Paddleboarding in the Ocean

0

Are you looking for a new, fun way to remain healthy and active round the year?

If so, you will definitely want to give stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) a try.

It is fast becoming one of the most popular water sports in North America. This is largely due to the fact that SUP is affordable and requires minimal gear. You can use a paddleboard for racing, surfing, exploration, fishing, and much more.

You can also spend a few hours simply cruising through the pristine waters on your SUP board, building up your core muscles even as you relax and unwind in the lap of nature, after a long, hectic week at work.

For most people, SUP is quite easy to learn. It requires some balance and stamina, but is highly accessible to most adults who are reasonably healthy and fit.

The difficulty level of a particular paddling session will depend largely on your choice of location. Paddleboarding on a lake or reservoir is very different from paddling on the ocean (or even a fast-moving river).

The waters are calmer in a lake or pond, which makes paddling easier for beginners. However, the bigger waves and rougher currents of the ocean, if you can handle them, will make for a better and more effective workout. If you have some experience with water sports – and enjoy overcoming new challenges – then a paddleboarding session at the beach might be just what you need!

An Overview of Ocean Paddling

Stand-up paddleboarding might look effortless and picturesque from a distance, but the reality is quite different. When paddling in the ocean, you will have to navigate large waves that keep knocking you off your feet, while at the same time fighting the rough currents and avoiding your fellow swimmers, surfers, and paddleboarders who are having fun in the water.

At least a few times, you will get thrown off your board by a large wave. When this happens, you will have to fight the currents to get back on your SUP board and keep paddling. The strong winds and currents of the ocean can very easily knock you off your course, dragging you in a direction you never intended to go. Therefore, a certain amount of physical strength and fitness is essential for those who want to go paddling at their local beach.

Tips for Ocean Paddling

Experienced paddleboarders have, over the years, offered some time-tested tips for paddleboarding in the ocean. These tips could help keep you calm, safe, and stable on your board, even when the weather is rough and the tides unfavorable.

  1. Finding the Best Entry Point

When paddling in the ocean, one of your most important goals will be to find a safe spot from which to enter the water. Ideally, you should try and find a secluded spot that is not crowded by swimmers, surfers, etc. This will keep you from accidentally hitting a swimmer with your paddleboard.

Additionally, you’ll need to find an entry point that is free of any potential hazards, such as piers, rocks, and debris. Scan the waters to ensure that there are no objects floating around that could get in your way or cause injury.

You don’t want to go paddling in an area where you might fall off your board and land on something that will cause injury, as such an accident could be quite dangerous amidst the fast currents and large waves of the ocean. Similarly, you should stay away from any rocks or debris that could damage your paddleboard, upon impact.

  1. Monitoring the Tides and Currents

The importance of tides and currents in the ocean cannot be overstated. Tides essentially constitute the up-and-down movements of the water, while the left-to-right movements are known as currents. Together, these two factors will have a profound impact on your paddleboarding experience.

Ideally, you should go paddleboarding in the ocean when the waters are relatively calm and the currents aren’t too strong. There are many apps that can tell you about the state of the currents at your local beach, but you must check the speed of the currents yourself before entering the water.

In terms of the tides, the best time to enter the ocean water with your paddleboard is during the period of slack tide. This is a short period in-between the high and low tides when there is no movement either way in the tidal stream and the water is completely unstressed. This is the time when the ocean water is at its most calm and consistent, and a variety of tide checker apps can help you find when the next slack tide will be.

  1. Using the Right Safety Gear

You must never go paddleboarding in the ocean without your ankle leash and a personal floatation device (PFD). If the weather is cold, you must also put on a wetsuit before entering the water on your paddleboard.

If you happen to get knocked off your board by a big wave, the ankle leash will keep the paddleboard from drifting too far away from you.

A well-fitting PFD, on the other hand, will keep you afloat – even if you suffer an injury, or are overpowered by the currents, during the paddleboarding session. Finally, a layer of sunscreen on your skin will keep you safe from sunburn (and all other harmful effects of UV radiation).

Concluding Note

A high-quality SUP board, an adjustable paddle, and the aforementioned safety gear are all you need to start paddleboarding at your local beach. As a hobby, ocean paddling can help you get your weekly dose of exercise, fun, socializing, and relaxation, all at the same time!

SA’s Clickatell Raises $91 Million in Series C Funding for US Expansion and Product Acceleration

0

Clickatell (www.Clickatell.com), the CPaaS innovator and Chat Commerce leader, today announces it has secured $91 million in their Series C round. This round was led by Arrowroot Capital, with participation from Kennedy Lewis Investment Management, Endeavor Global and Harvest.

Clickatell, which has delivered double-digit profitable growth for several years, will use the Series C capital to scale and expand three key areas: (i) Accelerated development and innovation of its Chat Commerce offering, (ii) Expansion of its footprint in the U.S., and (iii) Scaling of sales and marketing efforts on the back of growing demand from leading brands.

The new capital will also allow the company to significantly grow its engineering skills. It has already earmarked over 200 positions with a strong focus on boosting its African skills complement in the coming months.

“In 2019, Clickatell was the first to launch chat banking, bringing banking services functionality to chat channels. Our successes would not be possible without the trust and collaboration of our customers, some of Africa’s largest and most successful companies in the world,” said Pieter de Villiers, Co-Founder and CEO at Clickatell. “We look forward to working with businesses and financial institutions across the continent to enable Chat Commerce, the future of digital commerce and engagement. Soon, every consumer in Africa will engage family and friends via chat plus connect, interact and transact with the brands they love through their favourite chat platform.”

Clickatell’s platform has been recognized as a global leader in powering mobile messaging/ CPaaS (Communications Platform as a Service) and payments within chat. Clickatell processed more than 30 billion interactions, and 2 billion commerce transactions during the COVID-19 period alone as it enabled customer-centric brands to connect, interact and transact with their customers wherever they were sheltering in place during the pandemic.

With a massive $80+ billion Total Addressable Market (TAM), the Chat Commerce market is viewed as the third big wave of digital commerce, following the eCommerce and App Commerce markets. Chat is the largest digital platform in the world, with 7.7 billion users compared to 4.7 billion internet users, making it next to impossible for businesses to operate without communicating and transacting with consumers in chat channels. Chat Commerce enables businesses to easily facilitate significantly improved customer experiences through chat, with the added benefit of being far more efficient for customers and operational costs. Clickatell is uniquely positioned to capitalise on the intersection between communications (CPaaS, CCaaS) and commerce (digital payments) – offering a complete end-to-end Chat Commerce Platform.

Clickatell serves more than 10,000 customers, many of which are Fortune 500 companies and leading global brands such as Coca Cola, Deloitte, GT Bank, Booking.com, GoDaddy, IKEA, Novartis, Standard Bank, Tangerine, Telegram, US Foods, Visa, Zipcar, Capitec and others. Clickatell’s low / no-code, feature-rich Chat Commerce orchestration capability includes assisted (chat desk) and unassisted (bots) chat and secure payments capability in its recently launched Chat 2 Pay offering.

“We have a shared vision with Clickatell that brands will need to invest in Chat Commerce to transform their customer experience,” said Matt J. Safaii, Founder and Managing Partner at Arrowroot Capital. “With 93% of conversations that transpire on its Chat Commerce Platform ending in a transaction, Clickatell is sure to continue to make waves in this growing sector. We’re delighted to support them on their way to becoming the category-defining, global leader in Chat Commerce.”

“Endeavor is incredibly privileged to invest into Clickatell, one of the most admired and successful high-growth companies to emerge from South Africa. Clickatell has an exceptional CEO and talented team, who are leaders and role-models to entrepreneurs across the ecosystem, and we are fortunate to play a smart part in their journey,” said Alison Collier, Endeavor South Africa Managing Director.

Commenting on its African plans, de Villiers said the company will not only be looking to grow its already substantial market influence but will continue to invest in addressing the widening gap between the demand and supply of digital skills on the continent as well as encouraging entrepreneurship and start-up innovation.

“While expansion in the US is a high priority in this capital raise, Africa will remain a core market for us and one where our purpose of creating a better world for all through technology really shines through. We are proud of the work we do with www.SiMODiSA.org on supporting entrepreneurship on the continent through the Startup Act (https://bit.ly/3BIuYo0), as well as furthering the creation of future proof jobs via the TechXit digital skills initiative. Africa has a wealth of talent and Clickatell will continue to work with both the public and private sectors to ensure that the potential, both of individuals and companies, can be realized,” said de Villiers, who is also Chairman of SiMODiSA (https://bit.ly/3LRMWsx), an industry-led initiative to address and overcome barriers facings SMEs and start-ups in South Africa.

5 Things to Consider When Choosing a White Label Web Design for Your Website

0

A lot of businesses have been partnering up with white label website designers to make sure that their websites are updated and up to par with the times. What are the positive impacts of having a user-friendly web design for your website? There are white-label web design providers near you that you could go to for your web design needs.

But what are the things that you have to look out for when you are choosing the right white label web designer for your website? Here are 5 things to consider when choosing a white label web design for your website

What are the Benefits of Working with a White Label Web Design Provider?

  1. Solutions that are cost-effective

The white label web design providers would be able to customize and design a website for you that would be able to fit in your allotted budget as they develop, design, debug, and test the website that they have created.

You need to have all of these resources that cost a lot of money, but you would be able to avoid those costs when you partner up with a white label web design provider because they already have those resources themselves.

Partnering up with them is a good solution to make sure that you get the needed solutions for your problems in a reasonable and cost-efficient way.

  1. The turnaround is quick and you have tech support

White label web design providers have years of professional experience so if you give them a deadline, then they most likely can follow through with it while getting the results that you are expecting since they could get the job done in time or maybe even less.

Aside from the quick turnaround, they would be able to give you post-development support and partnership like being there to help you fix bugs on your websites. Give you local timezone support, give you a much quicker turnaround time without having to compromise the quality of your website, and resolve queries as soon as possible.

  1. Web solutions that are secure

A white label web design provider would be able to give you secure web solutions since they know the importance of having a well-ceded and secure web solution. Some of the security parameters that they could give you are:

  • Minimized use of 3rd party apps
  • Secure authorization
  • Authentication
  • form validation
  • Configuration settings
  • Encrypted data storage
  • Advanced spam protection

These web solutions would make sure that you have a reliable and secure web solution for you and your website, which would make the people who are visiting your site and your customers feel more secure to interact with you and your website.

  1. Scalable and custom website solutions

There are some services that white label website design providers could give you that they could alter and adjust to your web solution needs that would not need many hard-coded haps and only practice clean coding.

Making sure that your website is scalable would really help your business grow as your website flourishes because it means that it would be flexible enough to get more plugins and be scalable so that it would be able to handle any heavy traffic that may come to your website. This includes making sure that your website is optimized and has speed.

Customizing your website solution and making sure that these solutions fit your needs would be able to help in terms of the minimal usage of plugins, image optimization, and lazy-loading practice depending on your content and your audiences.

  1. Specialized tools and technology

Since white label website design providers are professionals, they have access to tools and technology that would make the job easier compared to when you choose to design our website yourself, making the job so much easier since it could give them the support that they need and give them a better workflow.

The better the tools, the better the service, but these tools could cost a lot. Partnering up with professionals means that they already have access to these tools so you would not have to buy them yourself and waste your money on a tool that you are not familiar with and would need to take more time to learn yourself.

Things to Consider When You are Choosing a White Label Web Design

There are a lot of things that you have to consider when you are choosing a white label web design like the speed of service, their platform, how their setup looks, the quality of their work, and their whole process to make sure that you get the quality website that you are paying for. Do your research, go through reviews, and explore your dynamic since websites could make or break your business as you establish your brand.

The move comes after a significant diversification of products in 2021, whereby the company announced the acquisition of Disha, a creator platform where creatives can receive money from across the world for their craft. In the same year, Flutterwave went on to introduce Market, an extension of its e-commerce solution, Store to improve visibility and by extension, revenue for small businesses.
