YouTube TV Launches 4k Playback And Offline Download But At A Cost

0

YouTube TV has launched a 4k playback and offline download but at a cost.

YouTube TV today reveals details about two expected new features. 4K playback and offline download. After all, the service will bundle them into a new add-on package called “4K Plus”. If you don’t have one, you can’t get the other.

4K Plus is available today with an additional charge of $ 19.99(KSh 1900) per month in addition to the standard $ 64.99 (KSh 6,500) YouTube TV Subscription. It sounds terribly expensive, but at least it has this. Customers receive a one-month free trial.

Sign up early and 4K Plus will be discounted to $ 9.99 (KSh 900) per month for the first year. It’s easier to swallow than $ 20 (KSh 2,000), but when the first promotion expires, it will eventually move to full price. So you’re looking at $ 75 (KSh 7,500) a month for the first year and $ 85 (KSh 8,500) if you want to keep 4K Plus after that. Add taxes and fees, well, it hurts.

For now, offline downloads will be a bigger issue for more customers than 4K streaming.

Except for some sporting events, network and cable TV lacks 4K content. YouTube isn’t really in a position to solve that dilemma, but 4K Plus subscribers said:

”YouTube TV is the moment of a particular sport or event without having to manually scrub. We are also preparing for the Olympics with new features that allow you to jump quickly.”

When asked if offline downloads would result in channel or content restrictions, YouTube said that anything recorded on the cloud DVR from the base channel package could be downloaded to the YouTube TV mobile app. Therefore, in theory, you will not encounter frustrating limits or channels that block functionality. Consider the price too! However, the company pointed out that some add-ons (I think you’re talking about HBO) may not allow offline downloads.

Offline viewing is rarely convenient, at least for streaming TV services.

For YouTube TV, this approach is a bit unique and Tivo-ish, as it actually pulls down the entire DVR recording as it was originally aired. According to YouTube, customers have full control over playback and rewind / fast forward should work fine.

Adding 4K Plus to your account also enables “unlimited” simultaneous streaming on all devices on your home Wi-Fi network. YouTube TV typically limits customers to three simultaneous streams, but this also applies to devices outside the home.

Dolby 5.1 Surround Appears on YouTube TV.

Welcome news all YouTube TV customers will also be “soon” to introduce support for Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound with this service. And this does not require any special planning or add-ons. According to YouTube, 5.1 audio has consistently been one of the biggest feature requests from subscribers. It will be rolled out to “some devices” in the coming weeks. Smart TVs are at the top of the list and will be followed by other platforms in the near future.

Ghana’s Jetstream secures US$3m seed funding round for expansion.

0

Ghanaian logistics startup Jetstream, a platform that enables African businesses to see and control their own cross-border supply chains, has closed a funding round of US$3 million to expand its operations.

Local and international investors participated in the round. They include Alitheia IDF, Golden Palm Investments, 4DX Ventures, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Asia Pacific Land, Breyer Labs, and MSA Capital.

Addy and Torgbor launched the startup after observing the many challenges that companies faced at the ports with cargoes. Torgbor’s past work experience with Maersk freight forwarding company had exposed him to cargoes waiting for weeks because of errors in paperwork or other inconsistencies.

The partners launched Jetstream to act as a vertical broker between the fragmented and often-hidden segments of cross-border supply chains in Africa. It helps customers handle instant pricing, cargo tracking and customs regulation transparency in a clear manner from its dashboard.

Founded in 2018, Jetstream enables African businesses to see and control their own cross-border supply chains. It aggregates private sector logistics providers at African ports and borders, and brings them online.

Jetstream’s business model is straightforward. It charges for the freight, clearance, and financial services offered. For freight, it charges a per-container or per-kilogram fee. For customs clearance, it charges a flat fee that varies depending on the tax category and location of the shipment. And for financing and insurance services, it charges a commission on the value of the goods being shipped.

Jetstream also has activities in Nigeria, with agents in South Africa, China, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Europe. This talent placement is one of Jetstream’s plans for 2028, when the startup intends to have a presence at ports and borders across Africa, accounting for 80% of the continent’s total global trade, according to the CEO.

Reports Confirm That Creator Of McAfee Antivirus Software Died By Suicide

0

John McAfee, the creator of McAfee antivirus software was found dead in a prison cell in Barcelona.

The official autopsy reports have confirmed that McAfee died by suicide in the Spanish prison cell. He died following the Spanish court judgement on his extradition to the United States.

The court had allowed his extradition to the United States, where he was wanted for tax evasion. Seemingly distraught McAfee had expressed his anguish over spending the rest of his life in prison if he were to be convicted in the United States.

McAfee had also tweeted about his life in jail a few days before his death.

The tweet read:

“There is much sorrow in prison, disguised as hostility. The sorrow is plainly visible even in the angry faces. I am old and content with food and a bed but for the young prison is a horror- a reflection of the minds of the those who conceived them.”

A report published in the Spanish-language newspaper El Pais confirmed that McAfee died by suicide while awaiting his extradition to the US. It was believed that McAfee had a suicide note in his pocket when he was found by the guards at the cell. The content of the suicide note not revealed by the sources. His family has now requested a second independent autopsy.

Widow blames the US.

McAfee’s widow Janice has said that her husband was not suicidal when she last spoke to him. “His last words to me were ‘I love you and I will call you in the evening. Those words are not words of somebody who is suicidal,” she told the reporters. She blamed the US while addressing the media outside the cell where she went to collect her late husband’s belongings.

McAfee was found dead hours after the Spanish court had ordered his extradition to the United States. His wife said that they were prepared for that decision and had a plan of action already in place.“I blame the U.S. authorities for this tragedy: Because of these politically motivated charges against him my husband is now dead,” she said.

McAfee was arrested in October 2020 for not paying taxes between 2014 and 2018.

It was discovered that despite making good money, McAfee refrained from paying taxes. He avoided paying taxes by not taking his income in his bank account.

He allegedly got his money paid in the other bank account and cryptocurrency accounts. In 2019, he said that his ideological reasons did not permit him to do so.

McAfee had left the United States in 2019 following his brief stint as a Chief Executive Officer at a cryptocurrency firm. He was believed to be having a gala time with his wife, dogs and staff on his mega-yacht until he was arrested in 2020.

Malagasy ed-tech startup Sayna has raised a round of funding to help it expand access to its training programme and launch new platforms.

Founded in 2018, Sayna aims to provide quality training in the digital sector in Africa, and offer professional opportunities to young people by bridging the gap between the growing demand of companies on digital issues and the supply of digital talent.

The startup has now secured a round of funding from I&P Acceleration Technologies, an Investisseurs & Partenaires (I&P)-led program for African digital entrepreneurs, and Miarakap, an impact investment firm, to help it develop.

By 2024 Sayna intends to have enabled 8,000 people in Africa to enter the digital industry through its training programmes, and also to have more than 3,500 people working a microtasking connecting SMEs and startups in the French-speaking world with African talent.

“As a team, we are very proud of what we have accomplished so far. Our successes and failures have allowed us to truly understand our market so that we can now offer a solution that can truly reinvent access to the job market for junior developers. The best is ahead of us!” said Matina Razafimahefa, co-founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of Sayna.

5 Best Tips to Improve Your Chances of Being Approved for a Mortgage

0

For most people, purchasing a home is one of the most significant commitments of life. This is the reason people take time to save as much money as they can and research a lot before investing. Finding a suitable home isn’t often an issue because the investors in the real estate sector keep building houses by the day. Your primary concern should be the finances.

One reliable solution you can consider is taking out a mortgage. While familiarizing yourself with the rates you also need to check how to apply and get approved for a mortgage, which is the most vital part of this process. However, this can be difficult for some, especially when lenders start to calculate loan-to-value ratio

Most potential buyers find this difficult, but your mortgage approval process can be relatively smooth with preparation. Knowing the key factors that affect mortgage approval and the amount to borrow is key. This piece will share fundamental tips to enhance your chances of getting mortgage approval for your dream home.

Check Your Credit Score Report

In recent times, credit scoring has become an essential requirement in the financial sector. Before any lender can release funds, they have to check for any black marks you might have. For instance, they will get your credit score report to confirm if you have borrowing problems or defaulted loans in the past. So, consider requesting a copy of your credit score before applying for the house loan to see what the lender will see. Do not fret if you have a bad rating, as there are various solutions you can consider to increase your credit score.

Fix Any Mistakes

When you go through your credit score, you might be attempted to assume everything is perfect. This is because you likely don’t know the key things lenders look out for to determine if you qualify for a loan. So, check keenly to determine if there are errors that can affect your credit negatively. Some vital things to watch out for include:

  • Outdated information
  • Debts you have already paid for or discharged
  • Information that got to your report because of identity theft
  • Data from your ex-spouse that needs to be removed
  • Incorrect explanations for things that happened in the past regarding your finances

Experts recommend checking your credit report a few months before you start shopping for a mortgage. This will allow you to fix any minor blunders that could reflect on your credit report. Be sure to call your credit agency right away once you find such errors. You may also seek help from credit monitoring service providers; they look out for similar malicious activities that could affect your credit score.

Improve Your Credit Score

Generally, you are likely to have a better mortgage rate if you have a high credit score. So, if it’s too low, you will have to find a way to increase it significantly. The first step is to review your credit report and fix any errors that lower the score. Once that is done, you can consider options like:

  • Registering on the electoral roll (those who aren’t registered find it harder to get credit)
  • Paying your bills on time
  • Making sure you do not indulge in fraudulent activities
  • Keeping the credit card as well as revolving credit balances low
  • Ensuring you don’t receive county court judgments for debts you haven’t paid
  • Paying off any existing debts
  • Not moving homes frequently as this could be a sign for lenders to assume you are dodging debt payment
  • Keeping your credit use as low as possible

If you find it challenging to improve your score, be sure to seek help from a professional as they can find a customized solution for your problem.

Lower Your Debt-to-Income Ratio

Your debt-to-income ratio is the total amount of debt that’s attached to your overall income. This ratio is attained when the total monthly debt is divided by the monthly income. Before lenders give the mortgage for your home, they will check this debt/income ratio to determine if you can handle repaying an additional amount every month and the house you can afford. The lower the ratio, the higher the chance of getting approval.

When you repay most of your recurring monthly debts before applying for the mortgage, your debt-to-income ratio will be low. This will show the lender you have a good balance between the income and debts, so you won’t have problems repaying the loan. Increasing your monthly income by getting a second job, advancing your work skills to get a promotion or higher paying job, or working extra hours will help too. Your spouse can also help by repaying some debts on your behalf.

Go Large with Your Down Payment

Another aspect that will increase your chances of getting mortgage approval is a large down payment. Once you put down a large deposit, the lender will have more confidence in you since you know how to save. Such a down payment also increases the maximum affordability, attracts lower interests, and saves you from paying mortgage default insurance. So create a saving plan way ahead of time to save more money for the down payment.

Getting mortgage approval may feel overwhelming at first, but you can overcome all the obstacles if you are well prepared. Consider keeping these outlined tips in mind and consult a mortgage broker when the need arises.

Reverse Mortgage Alternative.

If you have experienced difficulties obtaining a traditional mortgage due to a low credit score, a reverse mortgage, specifically the Home Equity Conversion Mortgage (HECM) program, could be an attractive alternative. Unlike conventional mortgages, the HECM program does not have a minimum credit score requirement, making it accessible to a wider range of borrowers.

The HECM program focuses more on your ability to pay for the ongoing costs of the home, such as taxes, insurance, and maintenance, rather than your credit history. This is because the loan amount is primarily based on the borrower's age, current interest rates, and the lesser of the appraised value of the home, the sale price, or the maximum lending limit. Since no monthly principal or interest payments are required with a HECM, a low credit score that might disqualify you from traditional mortgages does not carry the same weight.

Of course, while a low credit score may not prevent you from obtaining a reverse mortgage, you should still be aware of the financial implications. Reverse mortgages can have higher upfront costs, and the accruing interest could potentially deplete your home's equity over time. However, if you’re over the age of 62 and looking for ways to supplement your income without the need for monthly loan repayments, the HECM program could be a viable solution. Always make sure to discuss your options with a financial advisor or a trusted mortgage professional before deciding.

Social Media Giant Facebook Has Zoomed Past $1 Trillion For The First Time

0

Social media giant Facebook has zoomed past $1 Trillion for the first time.

Facebook shares climbed more than four per cent on Monday, following which the company’s market cap stood at $1.008 trillion.

Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook has become the fifth US company to reach the milestone. Some other companies that have already crossed the milestone are Apple Inc., Microsoft Corp, Amazon Inc. and Google’s parent company Alphabet Inc.

Challenges faced by Facebook.

Facebook’s market cap touched the milestone after a US judge dismissed federal and state antitrust lawsuits against the social media giant. The antitrust lawsuits were filed earlier by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), alleging that Facebook has a monopoly in social media. It also put pressure on it to sell Instagram and WhatsApp.

The judge made it clear that the FTC lawsuit failed to meet the burden for establishing that Facebook enjoys a monopoly in the social media business. It may be noted that the rejection of the lawsuits is a big blow to state and federal authorities.

The judge said:

“Although the court does not agree with all of Facebook’s contentions here, it ultimately concurs that the agency’s complaint is legally insufficient and must therefore be dismissed,”

A spokesperson for the social media giant said:

“We are pleased that today’s decisions recognize the defects in the government complaints filed against Facebook.”

However, the FTC is likely to file a new complaint in the matter by July end. On the other hand, Facebook welcomed the ruling.

The FTC along with a group of states had filed separate lawsuits against Facebook last year and accused it of breaking antitrust law — something that limited business prospects of smaller competitors — by acquiring Instagram in 2021 and WhatsApp in 2014.

The trade commission also suggested that Facebook displayed anti-competitive behaviour, adding that the company’s size has resulted in consumer hard and reduced product quality.

Three Kenyans have become multi-millionaires after winning the odibets Euro jackpot.

In this day and age, the number of things you can do with 20 shillings is not as many as you could back in the day. It’s quite easy to say “it’s just shillings” however for Vincent Olusala, George Otieno and Amos Otulo 20 shillings led them to Sh6, 666, 000 each after placing their bets with Sh20 on Odibets EuroJackpot.

Gambling is one of those habits that people look down upon, it’s easy to doubt the sincerity of these betting companies because easy money is believed to come at a price. However, for the three gentlemen, it seems luck was on their side.

Vincent Olusala from Matayos, Busia County said:

“I have been placing my bets with Odibets but had never tried their jackpots, I placed my winning bet at the start of 2020 Uefa Euro tournament and was surprised to receive a call that I had won the Jackpot later on, ”

George Otieno from Siaya County said:

“I love watching soccer and when the Uefa Euro tournament started I decided to place my bets early and that’s when I stumbled upon the Euro Jackpot on the Odibets platform,”

George Otieno also mentioned that he received the call from Odibet while he was herding the cattle. Amos Otula said that the thought of betting hadn’t crossed his mind but after he analyzed the matches he thought he had a fair chance and to his surprise he received the call that he had won.

Amos Otulo who is a lab technician in Kisumu said:

“Before my big win, I used to only play normal bets and never had I ever gone through the Jackpot section, when the Euros began, I decided to try my luck and here I am receiving my cheque,”

Other lucky winners.

A lucky boda boda rider had correctly predicted 15 match outcomes but of the possible 17 narrowly missing the Sh105,000,000 grand prize but was lucky to win the Sh2.1 million bonus.

New to Spotify: Here are 5 things you need to know!

0

Spotify launched in Kenya in February this year giving music fans across the country an opportunity to enjoy millions of songs and over 3 billion playlists for every mood and moment, absolutely free.

With a fully English user experience and a wide range of locally curated playlists, music fans can enjoy the vast catalogue of music and playlists on the free tier. With personalized music recommendations for you from day one, and an easy-to-use interface, users can enjoy unprecedented access to both the music they love and the favourites they’re yet to discover. Simply put, it’s the best way to get music for free!

But to really enjoy the new Spotify free experience, here is a list of the five must-use features you should be aware of:

  1. Let the app get to know you with Taste Onboarding

After you first download and sign into the free app, you’ll be prompted to choose five or more artists you like. That means the app will be able to learn more quickly about your favourite artists, songs, and genres so it can recommend songs based on your music preferences. From there, Spotify will make some great playlists for you as well as tailor your home screen for easier music discovery. The Daily Mix and Release Radar playlists are made especially for you and are based on the music you like. The more you listen, the more Spotify will learn about your music tastes, with the recommendations getting better and smarter over time, and introducing you to artists you’re bound to love. Win-win!

  1. EnjoyOn-demand playlists

Next up, data from your streaming activity along with insights from your initial Taste Onboarding are used to offer access to 15 personalized and curated playlists particular to your music taste. What this means is that every user gets something different to suit their music style. On-Demand Playlists offer a broad mix of genres from Made In Kenya to New Music Friday Kenya and allow you to play songs in any order and skip as much as you like.

Spotify’s Free users can also listen to up to six Daily Mix playlists on-demand, which will be updated constantly based on the music you listen to. You can find these playlists under ‘Made For You’ on your home screen. Once Spotify has enough information about what you like to listen to, Spotify will update your Discover Weekly every Monday and Release Radar every Friday. The more you stream, the quicker these will become available.

  1. Find new music with Assisted playlisting

Making your own playlist? Just start with a title, and then choose a few tracks. Spotify will then start recommending songs for you to add to the playlist with the tap of a button. Spotify will show songs based on artists in the playlist, your taste profile, and even the title of your playlist—particularly songs with that theme or word in the lyrics—so make sure you choose wisely!

  1. Stream more with Data Saver

Spotify believes that music should be accessible to everyone, anytime and anywhere they are. However, some music fans may be concerned about mobile data costs or data availability in their country.  That’s why Spotify offers the Data Saver Mode, a simple toggle that optimizes the listening experience to use lower rates of mobile data when listening to music.

Spotify’s Data Saver mode means that music streams at a lower bit rate so you can listen to more music with less worry. Note that Data Saver isn’t a default setting, so make sure to switch it on in your ‘settings’ tab.

  1. Personalize by Liking and Hiding

By using the ‘like’ and ‘hide’ buttons you will get recommendations tailored just for you. As you’re listening to songs, note which you ‘like’ by tapping the heart icon . You can also do this with artists, albums, and playlists. This way, Spotify will get to know what you love and want to hear more of—helping personalize the Spotify service to you even more. All your liked songs will then appear in a new playlist called ‘Your Favourites’ and newly-released tracks from artists you have listened to will appear in your Release Radar. On the other hand, tapping the “hide” icon will ensure you don’t have to hear that song, or others similar to it.

Between more personalization, enhanced playlists, easily-to-create playlists, and a data-saving feature, what better way is there to listen to and discover music? Make sure you’re not missing out and sign up for a Spotify Free account now and listen to some of the most popular Kenyan, African and Global playlists.

  1. Made In Kenya
  2. New Music Friday Kenya
  3. Bongo Flava
  4. African Heat
  5. Gengetone Fire
  6. African Heat presents…
  7. Afropop
  8. Mood Booster
  9. Mega Hit Mix
  10. AmaPiano Grooves

Download the Spotify app via the Android or iOS app store or by heading to www.spotify.com – to embed Spotify into a website – right click on any playlist, go to ‘share’ and copy embed code.

How the Technology Behind Online Slots Has Evolved

0

Long ago, slot machines were simple, mechanical devices where people would try to line up a series of fruits or other images like bells and bars. The very first machine of this type was created in the late-19th century and was called Liberty Bell. It has proved to be a hugely popular way of playing since then but how has this type of game changed in recent years?

The history of the first slot machine

The Rise of Technology in Slots

These games were purely mechanical for many years, with players pulling a handle to make the reels spin around. In the 1970s, new technology allowed casinos to start to offer video slots, where the reels are digital rather than physical. This was followed by the introduction of linked jackpots that give the chance to aim for a shared jackpot that builds up over the network before eventually paying out.

There is no doubt that the rise of the internet has seen the biggest advances in slots technology in history. Since the first online casinos appeared at the start of the 21st century, developers have been constantly pushing the boundaries to create new features and layouts that attract players to give them a try.

Many slots still retain a classic look, especially those in the retro market where classic fruit symbols, bars, and bells are often seen. However, others have moved away from the traditional appearance by adding in very different types of reel layout and attention-grabbing themes, along with a range of other enhancements.

The main reason for the massive advances we have seen in this industry is that it is a hugely competitive business now. Top developers like Microgaming, Blueprint and Play N’Go bring out new slots regularly, and they need to constantly look for fresh ways to get players interested in trying their games against an ever-tougher competition.

Established Swedish games company NetEnt reported a huge increase in revenue to €561.1m ($679.8m) for 2020, while a relative newcomer like Pragmatic Play is reported by some sources to have annual revenue of around $2 million and has shown impressive levels of growth by bringing out at least a couple of new titles each month and expanding into new markets.

What Do the Most Advanced Online Slots Now Offer?

The variety of special features now available is one of the biggest changes that players will note when comparing online slots to the older, land-based machines. While the overall aim of the game is still to try and get a matching line of symbols, it is no longer the only exciting moment to look out for.

In many cases, a free spin round allows the biggest wins. This round is triggered by landing a certain number of scatter symbols, leading to the chance to play some spins at no cost and sometimes with added features or improved payouts for symbol combinations.

Wild symbols are also seen on many online slots. In its simplest form, this is a type of joker that can complete a winning line by replacing any other symbol when needed. Some developers add to the benefits of this symbol by making it sticky, expanding, or giving it another type of action that increases your chances of winning.

Winning reactions, which are also known as avalanches on some slots, are triggered when you get a win on slots that include a feature of this type. When this happens, the winning images disappear and new ones replace them, which means a second chance of winning from a single spin.

When you play online slots Canada for real money at a site like 888 Casino, you will also see jackpot games that offer big cash prizes. Among the titles in this respect are Sizzling Hot Jokers, Ramesses Rumble, and The Wolf’s Den. Those slots that are linked to daily jackpots will tell you when to expect the next big payout to drop. You can also scroll through the list of top-paying slots like 24K Dragon, Sizzling Hot Deluxe, and Tiki Staxx.

Another interesting way that technology is used to produce a more exhilarating experience is with the MegawaysTM engine. Instead of showing the standard three or five reels, these games have an ever-changing reel format that brings up new patterns on each spin, meaning that the number of ways of winning changes every time that you play it.

Mobile compatibility has helped to increase the reach of online slots too, with HTML5 code used by some of the best developers to ensure a smoother performance on any smartphone or tablet. The added flexibility that this gives means that more players can now sample these games, even if they have extremely busy lifestyles or don’t use a laptop.

A look at how VR can immerse us in games

What Is the Future of Slots Technology?

It is interesting to look back and note that the slots industry has probably seen more changes in the last couple of decades than it witnessed in the century or so before that. However, the big question that everyone wants to know the answer to is around the changes that we could see introduced in the future.

One area that appears to have a lot of potential in terms of online slot games is virtual reality (VR). This is something that has come to the fore in other areas of entertainment recently. While VR video games have grabbed most of the headlines, you can also enjoy movies and other types of virtual experience using a headset that is suitable for your needs.

It is easy to imagine a VR slots game where you are transported into an immersive experience that gives these games a new dimension. With many online slots based on themes like ancient Egypt, wild animals, and musical legends, the addition of a virtual world around the slot could be seen as the next logical step. It could also make it easier for the creative teams to build interesting stories for their new releases.

Augmented reality (AR) is another type of technology that could prove to be right for slots developers to use. In this case, digital information is added to real-world images to give a different kind of immersion in a game. This could lead to the reels or symbols appearing on your screen, superimposed on the images you see of your current location. The blockchain may provide another opportunity for slots creators to use the best new technology.

It seems certain that online slots will continue to grow and evolve, as the creators behind them look for new ways to appeal to players all over the world. For the moment, there are plenty of games to check out that prove how far these games have come so far.

Africa’s Leading Animation Studio ‘Triggerfish’ Is Calling For Entries From African Artists

Africa’s leading animation studio ‘Triggerfish’ is calling for entries from African artists.

Are you an African artist? or do you have a story that you’d like to develop but don’t have the funds for? Triggerfish announced their call for entries for a pan-African story Artist Lab sponsored by Netflix. African artists are rarely given the opportunity to connect with industry experts and when they do it’s hardly ever sponsored by our own government.

However, through this project, African artists will have the chance to mingle with industry experts such as Nathan Stanton the creator of movies like Brave, Finding Nemo, Monsters INC. Nathan will lead the shortlisted applicants for three months and the applicant will receive payment as well.

The story of Mama K’s Team.

Mama K’s team was created in celebration of African girls and it was the first African original animated series on Netflix this was also an attempt to show that the platform gave room to other voices as well. The show was created by a Zambian creator, Malenga Mulendema, she was part of the group of nine women who were placed in the writing room known as 4 all-female writers lab.

“Story artists translate screenplays into animatics, the loose first version of the movie that then shapes every step of animation that follows,” says Tendayi Nyeke, Triggerfish’s Zimbabwean-born development executive. “So having skilled story artists from the continent in control of how their stories are told is a gamechanger, not only in grooming the next African directors but also in giving pre-production artists the opportunity to establish their own voice as they bring African stories to life.”

If you’re a storyteller, an African with concept art then they are looking for you and you can apply until Friday, 23 July 2021 at https://www.triggerfish.com/storyartistlab/. They must be available full-time for three months from August 2021; remote working is encouraged.

What to Look for in the Best Gaming PC

0

If you’re looking for pointers on what to look for when buying a gaming PC, you’ve come to the right article. The best gaming PCs come in many varieties for all types of gamers, from the uber-competitive eSports pro gamers to the casual gaming hobbyist. Depending on your personal gaming style and experiences, there is a gaming PC for you.

Here are some of the things you should look out for when buying the best gaming PC for yourself.

Firstly, define your gaming interests.

Whether you’re into PC games like World of Warcraft, Cyberpunk, or Fortnite, you need to look into the specs each of these games requires. Depending on the game, you will need to adjust your GPU, processor, or even RAM. Evaluate your needs and from there, you can start choosing your specs. For example, if you’re into games like Cyberpunk 2077, you may need to add more processing power than if you were interested in games like Overwatch.

A processor fit for your game’s performance.

As mentioned before, depending on the games you play, you may need to purchase more potent processing hardware. The most competent gaming PCs will have the most competent processor in stock—the AMD Octa-core processor. This AMD processor can cost around $200 depending on the model. If that’s a bit outside your budget, you can also look for a PC with an Intel Core i3 CPU, which can cost around $100 and can later be upgraded into an Intel Core i7 processor.

A graphics card for high-quality imagery.

Graphics cards can make or break a game. For games like Final Fantasy XXIV, you may want to invest in a good graphics card like an NVIDIA GTX to capture all the artistic details of the game. One of the highest-quality graphics cards on the market is the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090, which allows users to enjoy their games in 4K 60fps. NVIDIA GTX cards can cost around $300 while the RTX can cost a whopping $2,000. Graphics cards can indeed be pricey.

Only the necessary RAM to support your games.

As with the rest of the hardware for your gaming PC, the RAM can be chosen based on the games you’re interested in. Anything between 8GB and 16GB of RAM is considered normal in gaming as most games’ minimum RAM storage specs fall in that range. However, if you want to take your gaming to the next level, feel free to look at costlier 32GB options, but try not to overdo it with 64GB RAM. RAM storage prices can range from low hundreds to thousands of dollars.

A solid-state drive for faster and more affordable storage.

When it comes to storage, you may want to look into SSD options as they are more affordable, more reliable, and quieter. They also have more capacity than traditional HDDs. For your PC’s storage, you can go overboard and take on a 1TB or 2TB drive as they are much more affordable than their counterpart. A larger SSD storage space means you can keep more games on your PC, and they will load much faster as well. They can cost from $70 to $200 and over depending on the brand.

Research PC brands and refine your budget.

Lastly, you should look into different gaming PC brands and compare their specs and prices. There won’t be a single computer with every single spec as you’d like them, but you will find many that suffice. You can look into PCs like the Corsair One, Alienware Ryzen editions, and Dell G5 Gaming Desktop, for example, to see which one suits you the best.

Now that you’ve determined the specs and hardware you’ll need, it’s time to buy that gaming PC at techfast 3080.

Big boom: Will bitcoin fall or keep growing in the near future?

0

Without a doubt, 2009 was a memorable year as multiple curious events happened at that time. One of them was the emergence of Bitcoin. The birth of the first-ever cryptocurrency turned the financial world upside down and made the whole planet realise that things would never be the same.

Because regular money experiences significant fluctuations for hundreds of reasons, there was a need for a new form of payment that carried the same functionality yet stood apart from the usual volatility factors. As a result, cryptocurrencies stepped into the game at the beginning of the 21st century.

Nowadays, any person can purchase a token via this site to buy Bitcoin online. Imagine that you earn your money with blood and sweat and now stand at crossroads trying to find the perfect investment strategy. Where should you store your coins? In the light of contemporary trends, you most probably get a lot of advice to purchase cryptocurrency, namely Bitcoin.

Such a situation is understandable, as Bitcoin is on everyone’s tongue. Billionaires, millionaires and regular citizens attempt to win this game and put their costs in the luckiest basket. Furthermore, digital money has identical functions to fiat money, like these:

  • Bitcoin is a comfortable mean of exchange;
  • Bitcoin can be used just like dollars, euros or hryvnias.

Nonetheless, the price you pay participating in this lottery is unpredictability. You may hardly find a wise man who tells you for sure what awaits Bitcoin in a year or a decade. As well as weather forecast, professionals only make assumptions. For instance, JPMorgan Chase & Co experts believe that this leading cryptocurrency might cost up to one hundred fifty thousand dollars in the nearest future!

Again, this is a hypothesis rather than a strict statement. Now, let’s dive into the ocean of factors that can lead to the success or fall of Bitcoin price.

The determinants of Bitcoin’s price

Anyone who regularly watches or reads financial news occasionally hears about the shifts in the Bitcoin exchange rate. Notably, the bright headlines blame different people and events. Do these reasonings sound unrealistic at times? The answer is yes. Nonetheless, the crypto market is quite peculiar, like a wonderland, where everything is possible.

The supply of tokens

Without a doubt, any person with basic economic knowledge from high school or college understands how supply and demand work. Even though Bitcoin is an innovative notion, it still falls under market laws.

This way, the fewer tokens there are, the higher price for them is. Whenever the miners obtain a new block of tokens, the cost of all the already existing ones automatically goes down.

The thing is, most goods in the world are renewable. On the contrary, the number of Bitcoins is limited. In fact, the estimated quantity of tokens is twenty-one million. Is it few or just enough? Everything is relative, and you have to remember about other factors.

Nobody knows for sure when people retrieve the last Bitcoin, but when this moment comes, the situation is unpredictable. By far, the exchange rate shifts every day, so making assumptions about years to come is exceptionally complicated.

The demand from general publicity

Mining frequency is only one of the influential things on the market of cryptocurrency. In addition, the hype in media is what makes Bitcoin’s price rise and fall. As soon as a celebrity expresses their opinion on the topic of digital money, the true chaos begins!

As a matter of fact, society tries to follow trendsetters, whether it is high fashion or financial decisions. You have probably heard about the changes that Elon Musk causes by his bold statements regarding different cryptocurrencies. One of the latest slumps in Bitcoin price happened right after the billionaire expressed negative thoughts on the ecology.

In short, everyone knew that mining harms the environment as much as a huge city. However, this fact started bothering society only when Musk openly spoke on the matter and claimed his loyalty to Dogecoin. Jokes aside, the pollution problem might be detrimental for Bitcoin in perspective.

As much as this currency stays divided from governments, chances are the tables would turn. Restricting policies have the ability to cause drastic price reduction. Such measures are logical in attempts to save the planet.

The problem with scales

As the fame of Bitcoin spreads through word of mouth, more and more people express their desire to make a fortune in the market of cryptocurrencies. However, the severe expansion of miners may lead to certain troubles. After all, the very essence of the Bitcoin system reckons with the growing complexity of mining.

Consequently, the high speed of transactions which is currently the competitive advantage for any cryptocurrency, can stop being a benefit for Bitcoin. Colossal capacities are a primary requirement for a system to process the operations from millions of users per day.

Because each day the number of Bitcoin fans seems to get only more prominent, a collapse is highly viable in the future. In addition, the competitive cryptocurrencies might push the current leader out of the market as well. Even now, such thing as Altcoin seems to gain power side by side with Bitcoin.

Conclusion

For sure, the mouth-watering possibilities allure the fans of cryptocurrencies from all over the world. Every one of them attempts to repeat the historical success of those lucky beggars who purchased tokens in 2009 or 2010.

Regrettably, entering the world of Bitcoin now means being ready to face the disastrous consequences of minor wrong decisions. Basically, nobody knows what the future holds for modern crypto investors. The number of volatility factors is simply too significant to comprehend, so the tomorrow hides behind a thick fog.

The boom of Bitcoin is as much probable as its downturn, and to have little idea about it is understandable. Humanity only gets acquainted with cryptocurrencies. People sometimes fear or experiment with them. Yet, such a form of payment has the potential to become as familiar and safe as fiat money.

Ways to Create QR Code For WiFi Password; Add Scan to Connect

0

You may not want to share your WiFi password with others on occasion. There are a few ways to share Wifi passwords without revealing them, one of them is to use QR codes. All you have to do now is create a QR code for your WiFi password, which users may scan to access to your network. I’ll show you three different ways to make a QR code for your WiFi password in this article.

How to Make a QR Code for Your Wi-Fi Password

QR codes for WiFi passwords can be generated using a variety of websites and software. I’ve compiled a list of the top tools for creating QR codes, all of which are entirely free to use.

QiFi QR Code Generator

Using your network’s SSID and password, you may create QR codes on this page. This code can be shared with anyone and they will be able to connect to your network. Here’s how to use the QiFi website to make a QR code:

  • Using any web browser, go to the qifi.org homepage.
  • Enter the SSID, encryption type, and password for your WiFi connection.
  • When you click Generate, the QR code will appear underneath it.
  • That is all there is to it. This code can now be exported and shared with others so that they can join your network. You can even print it out if you want to.

These details may be stated on your modem/router or in the first documentation that arrived with your Internet subscription if you didn’t set up the network yourself. You can check your password on a PC or Mac if you’re not sure where to look. You’ll also need to know whether the password is encrypted with WPA, WPA2, or WEP. You can also contact your internet service provider’s customer care.

QR Code Generator

It is another web-based tool that lets you create QR code for WiFi password. Here’s how to make a QR code with this website:

  • Select WiFi QR code from home on the QR code generator website, or go directly to this URL: https://www.qr-code-generator.com/solutions/wifi-qr-code/
  • Enter your Network Name, Password, and Encryption Type as in the previous way.
  • Select Generate QR Code from the drop-down menu. That is all there is to it.

You’ll see a QR code for your WiFi password, which you may save as a JPG or Vector file by clicking the appropriate buttons.

QR Stuff

Another website that allows you to make QR codes for a variety of services such as website URLs, YouTube videos, Instagram, email addresses, and WiFi passwords is this one. Here’s how to make a QR code with this website:

  • Go to qrstuff.com and click on the WiFi Login option.
  •  Next, type in the SSID or Network Name, the password, and the network type.
  • After that, you can alter the QR code’s style, resolution, and file type.
  •  In the next step, you can also upload your company logo.
  • To get the QR code, go to Download QR Code. You can also print it or email it to someone.

WiFi QR Code Generator App

If you don’t want to utilize these websites or web-based software, you can download the WiFi QR code generating app for Android. This allows you to generate QR codes for multiple items at once. This is how you use the app:

  • On your phone, download and install the WiFi QR Code Generator app.
  • Open it and type in the network name, password, and authentication type to get started.
  • Now, simply click on the QR code sign, and you’re done.

So there you have it: some third-party tools for creating QR codes for WiFi passwords.

Furthermore, you can use the settings on your Android or iPhone to share WiFi with a QR code. On the iPhone, use Siri Shortcuts, and on Android, use this step-by-step guide to create a QR code if you’re using Android 10.

Best Ways to Fix Touchpad Scroll Not Working on Windows 10.

0

Most of us use the touchpad to interact with our laptops. External input devices, such as mice and keyboards, are preferred by some. When the touchpad scroll on a Windows 10 computer stops working, it becomes impossible to browse the screen.

There are a few ways in the section below:

Enable/Re-enable Touchpad

Most keyboards, whether external or built-in, provide a keyboard shortcut for quickly disabling the touchpad. When you wish to avoid inadvertent taps, this feature comes in handy. This option is also available in Windows 11 Settings.

  • To access Settings, press Windows key+I and look for Touchpad settings.
  • Check to see if the touchpad is turned on. Below that, there is another option worth mentioning. When a mouse is attached, it’s termed ‘Leave touchpad on.’ Disabling it, as you may expect, also disables the touchpad when using an external mouse.
  • To kickstart or revive the feature, disable and then re-enable touchpad if it is previously enabled.
  • Scroll a little further down the touchpad settings screen to locate the Scroll and Zoom options. If you can’t scroll with several fingers on a touchpad, enable the Drag two fingers to scroll option.

Disconnect Input Device

It could be the consequence of a conflict with another USB-connected input device, such as a mouse or keyboard. If any such devices are connected, disconnect them and check if the touchpad scroll on your Windows computer works. If this is the case, one of the devices is malfunctioning. Reconnect each device one at a time to determine which is interfering with touchpad gestures.

Update/Reinstall Drivers

Drivers are software components that enable your computer’s hardware to interface with external hardware devices such as your graphics card, mouse, and keyboard. The touchpad is a physical hardware device that requires drivers to interface with the motherboard and send input data. The Device Manager is where you can manage all of your drivers.

  • Windows Search (Windows key+S) can be used to find and access the Device Manager.
  • The driver for your touchpad can be found under Mice and other pointing devices. It’s the ELAN l2C Filter Driver in my instance. Select Update Driver from the context menu by right-clicking on it. Select Properties if that doesn’t work.
  • You may also take other troubleshooting actions under the Drivers tab, such as Roll Back Driver to a previous version if you think the new version is problematic, Update Driver (as we saw above), and Uninstall Device.
  • Only use the final option if you know how to restore the device or drivers. When you reboot the computer after deleting drivers, Windows will usually try to restore the touchpad drivers automatically, but if it fails, you need know how to install manually.
  • The drivers for the touchpad can be found on the manufacturer’s official website. This holds true for all devices, including mice, keyboards, and hard drives. Before you uninstall anything, be sure you have everything you require.

Reset Touchpad

All of your customizations will be lost if you reset the touchpad on Windows. Everything you altered will be reset to its default state. That can simply be adjusted, and there are only a few variables to play with in the first place.

  • Scroll to the bottom of the page in Windows Settings (Windows key+I) > Devices > Touchpad. The Reset button can be found there. Select it by clicking on it.
  • On the same screen where you find the reset option, you can modify the touchpad.

Change Mouse Pointer

  • Return to Windows Settings and select Devices > Mouse > Additional mouse options.
  • A pop-up window will now appear in front of you. One of the Windows Black/Default/Inverted/Standard options under the Pointers tab in the Scheme heading.
  • Change these settings by going to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers > Mouse and selecting Scheme from the Pointers tab in the pop-up.

I trust your issue has now been fixed. If nothing else has worked, you are left with two options. Purchase a mouse and keep it with you until your laptop is restored. Mice are small, light objects that are easy to transport. In truth, mice are faster and more handy than touchpads, and for some users, they can increase productivity.

Jiji acquires struggling Cars45 operations in Kenya, Ghana & Nigeria

0

Jiji, the popular classifieds marketplace that took over OLX SSA from the Naspers Group as Walie Holdings, has today acquired Cars45 operations in Kenya, Ghana, and Nigeria for an undisclosed amount.

Jiji, supported by Lemma.Group, says the deal promises a new level of trade experience for auto buyers and sellers across the three countries where Cars45’s performance was wanting.

According to Anton Volyansky, CEO and co-founder of Jiji: “We are looking forward to creating a new advanced experience for Cars45 users. Undoubtedly, our collaboration on future products and services will bring additional value to the consumers. For Jiji, it’s the first bold step into the transactional business model and an important foundation for building the future of the company.”

With the deal, Cars45 users will benefit from Jiji’s market-leading products in online classifieds. In turn, Cars45 brings a unique O2O car buying and selling service, where cars can safely be sold instantly to dealers or via a consumer marketplace to other consumers.

Together, users in the auto sector can expect a new level of convenience in buying and selling cars, combining online and offline capabilities.

The acquisition is not a surprise to TechMoran as Cars45 was hit by resignations, terminations, and accusations of mismanagement and misappropriation with people familiar with the matter arguing the rot was more than a year deep and deeper than the firm could solve. To save face, Cars45 hired Soumobroto Ganguly as its new Chief Executive who took over from co-founder and former CEO, Etop Ikpe.

Ganguly was expected to drive business development and marketing, finance and fund raising and he is said to have been the guy behind the acquisition as he previously worked as the Deputy Managing Director of Genesis Group in  Nigeria. Genesis Group owned and operated Jiji then but it has spun Jiji out as an independent outfit.

As a former Genesis executive, Ganguly did try to turn Cars45 around with the launch of GoMechanic45 and EasyShipDirect to reclaim its position in Nigeria’s automotive industry. GoMechanic45 was to provide quality and affordable car repair services for consumers and corporates while EasyShipDirect was to facilitate the shipping of clean-titled cars into the country to help the government realize revenue via the payment of import duties.

The turnaround did not work as fast as expected. Therefore opening doors for acquisition talks with his former bosses at Genesis/ Jiji which had raised $21 million to grow its classifieds business in Africa. Genesis Technologies, co-founded by Vladimir Mnogoletniy, which operates Jiji and other sites in Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, and Tanzania, said its funding which total $50 million was to be used to increase the overall number of buyers, sellers, and transactions on its site. The company also aimed to use the funding to upgrade the platform to create more listings and faster matching in the area of real-estate and autos, its two biggest verticals.

“With this transaction we plan to build the largest Africa-based classifieds business, creating a new experience for Africa’s fastest-developing countries and their combined population of 300 million. We firmly believe that in the next 2-3 years ours will be one of the top 10 classifieds businesses in the world by traffic,” said Vladimir Mnogoletniy, Board Director and co-founder of Jiji said on Jiji’s earlier purchase of OLX.

“The merger is the next logical step in Jiji development as the leading e-commerce platform on the continent. Our strategy implies moving further into transactional marketplace models and Cars45 merger is an important step in its realisation. We’re excited by the perspectives of the joint business and by the variety of additional options that both Jiji and Cars45 customers will have,” said Vladimir Mnogoletniy, co-founder and board member of Jiji.

Soumobroto Ganguly, CEO of Cars45 also agrees that merging with Jiji is aimed at creating a new kind of automotive retail experience for users in Africa.

“We are confident of jointly building an African Champion in the O2O Automotive Sector. Together we look forward to making transactions transparent and convenient for our customers, dealers and franchisees across all our current and future markets.

Cars45’s key value is its network of inspection centres where cars are inspected by more than 200 parameters. Unlike a classifieds marketplace where checks are inadequately carried out, transactional models employed by platforms like Cars45 ensure quality checks and detailed reports on a car’s condition with various databases.

The acquisition will see the operations of Cars45 and Jiji merged to create a single organisation which will offer unique services for car sellers, buyers and dealers in Ghana, Kenya and Nigeria. Cars45 had raised more than $120 million for its pan-African expansion and it was either too early for the market or its execution and management was poor. Jiji will change this.

“We are absolutely thrilled to join forces with Cars 45. We believe this will offer a new car buying and selling experience, where we will be able to inspect cars on behalf of buyers, making us the safest online platform to buy cars in Africa,” said Maksym Golubev, country manager of Jiji Kenya. “With this kind of unparalleled experience, our market reach will exponentially grow since we will be exploring a business outside our usual classifieds model and our car sellers will benefit from it by selling their cars faster now than ever before.”

South African startup VALR launches free ZAR payments platform.

0

South Africa’s VALR, one of the country’s largest crypto exchanges, has launched VALR Pay, a free, fast and easy way to send ZAR payments to any mobile number or email address.

In early 2019,VALR had launched its digital asset trading platform after securing US$1.5 million in a funding round led by the US-based Bittrex and former FNB chief executive officer(CEO)Michael Jordaan’s Montegray Capital.

The startup raised another ZAR57 million (US$3.4 million) in Series A funding in July of last year to help it roll out new products and expand into other regions. With over 55 coins to choose from, it now has 150,000 account holders and the largest selection of cryptocurrencies in South Africa.

It has now launched the first of those touted new products – VALR Pay. VALR Pay allows VALR customers to send ZAR to each other at zero cost, using any mobile number or email address even if the recipient does not yet have an account with VALR.  The recipient will receive an email or SMS with an invitation to sign up to VALR for free to claim the funds. The startup uses artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning technology to validate the identity of customers.

“The cost and friction of payments in South Africa is too high,” said Farzam Ehsani, VALR co-founder and chief executive officer (CEO). “So we decided to build VALR Pay. It’s free, fast and easy. Why bother with banking details and branch codes? Just open up your VALR app, type in a ZAR amount, select a contact from your address book and you’re done!”

VALR provides a digital asset platform that allows its customers to buy, sell, store and transfer cryptocurrencies seamlessly and secure .The startup helps to bridge the gap between the traditional fiat financial system and the new world of cryptocurrencies with an aim of ushering in a new financial paradigm that makes financial services available to the public with pricing that is fair and transparent, and with an experience that is intuitive and seamless.

Netflix To Make Partial Downloading Available On Android Phones

Netflix will make partial downloading available on Android phones and tablets, the company said in a blog post.

The feature is still being tested on iOS and will be rolled out in the coming months on the platform. For Netflix users, this means that they will be able to watch a series or film, even if it has not finished downloading fully. At the moment, users need to wait till the download is complete before they can hit play.

In the blog post, Netflix says the reason they have introduced this feature is that they know users struggle with “unreliable wifi or expensive data that can complicate downloading” favourite shows or movies. The latest feature is part of Netflix’s efforts to introduce more features that can help users, especially those in markets such as India where data stability is a concern.

Greg Peters, Chief Product Officer at Netflix had said:

“We increasingly are understanding what our member’s needs and sort of the members we haven’t signed up, consumers’ needs generally, in more and more countries. And they all have sort of unique constraints that they’re working through. They have unique expectations from the service. And our job is to learn more and more and more about what those are and make sure that we are being able to offer the service in a way that feels natural that feels delightful to them,”

The Downloads feature was introduced by Netflix in 2016.

At the time, Netflix had said that the feature was launched keeping countries like Kenya in mind. Netflix members in Kenya are among the highest downloaders of content globally on the platform.

In 2018, Netflix further added to this feature by adding Smart Downloads on Android, followed by iOS on 2019. The feature ensures that the next episode in the series that one is watching is downloaded. It also deletes an episode once the user has seen it.

Earlier this year, Netflix launched ‘Downloads for You’ on Android, which automatically downloads recommended shows and movies onto a member’s mobile device. The feature is still being tested on iOS and will be coming soon.

Ministry Of Health Will Soon Be Using Drones To Spray Mosquito Breeding Sites

The Kenyan Ministry of Health will soon be using drones to spray mosquito breeding sites.

In an attempt to fight Malaria the Ministry of Health has partnered with SC Johnson, the East African Community and society for Family health to use drones to spray mosquito breeding sites around the Lake Basin in Western Kenya.

Although there are netizens who argued that the plan would not work because the drones wouldn’t be enough to spray the area. However, during the launch on Friday Cabinet Secretary Mutahu Kagwe said that this was a move in the right direction as it would help get rid of mosquitoes.

He said:

“I am happy to note that our recently constituted End Malaria Council, working with the private sector has plans to deploy drones to spray mosquito breeding sites,”

The fight against Malaria has been a long one and in this day and age, millions of Kenyans still die from the fatal disease. Since mosquito nets, coils and sprays haven’t been enough in this fight CS Kagwe stated that the ministry has had to take a few lessons from other countries and how they’ve death with Malaria.

The chairman of the End Malaria Council Chris Gitonga said the private sector will work together with the government to holistically fight malaria.

Gitonga said.

“Prevention is better than cure if we are able to go to the source, using larvacides and we already have some that have been tested, and using drones instead of a person going around spraying, a drone can spray between 100 to 150 acres per day,”

When will it start?

The project is meant to kick off in the western and former Nyanza region and will soon start when the larvacides approve it.

You must be wondering how it’ll work but the plan is to target borders that have a lot of population movement which will also secure the East African partner states.

Other plans the government has.

Drone technology will not be enough without extra measures which is why the government will be donating free mosquito nets in affected areas.

The President’s advisor Dr Willis Akhwale who is the President’s advisor from the African Leaders Malaria Alliance will donate 15 million mosquito nets in Bungoma and Kakamega.

The malaria vaccine.

So far, 250,000 children have received the first-ever malaria vaccine with most receiving three doses and currently waiting for the fourth dose.

Dr Akhwale said counties have a dashboard to monitor the prevalence rate of malaria to acquire statistics of how well the strategies are working. Nandi County has had a spike in malaria cases but a team has been deployed on the ground to work on the same.

The MEST Express accelerator programme is now accepting applications from early-stage Ghanaian startups looking to expand their operations.

MEST Express is one of the three programmes that MEST is currently running in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, alongside Pre-MEST and MEST Scale.

The 20-week accelerator programme aims to equip early-stage ventures with the skills and resources they require to accelerate their growth, and offers free training, mentorship, resources, and support to participating startups.

At the end of the programme, startups in each cohort will have the opportunity to participate in a pitching session where top-performing ventures will receive equity-free grant funding.

“Securing investment is extremely difficult for early-stage startups. This is why we are introducing a strong focus on investment readiness and fundraising in our upcoming cohorts, with the view of connecting startups to sources of capital and preparing them to effectively deploy funds to grow their businesses,” said Felix Darko, MEST Express programme manager.

The programme will run in two cohorts, with a blend of virtual and in-person sessions. One cohort will take place in Accra, with in-person sessions held at the MEST campus, while in an effort to make entrepreneurial training more accessible to startups across Ghana the other cohort will take place in Tamale at the HOPin Academy.

“After extensive research in three regions and numerous insights about the technology and entrepreneurship landscape across the country, we are excited to announce our partnership with HOPin Academy. Situated in Tamale, the largest city in the Northern half of Ghana, the Academy provides an exciting opportunity to reach many young entrepreneurs and to help develop the still-nascent technology ecosystem in the North,” said Gregory Coussa, Strategic Director at MEST Africa.

“We are delighted to see the expansion of the MEST Accelerator program to support early-stage startups across the country. Democratizing access to opportunities that nurture entrepreneurial dreams will increase the chances of success for newly established enterprises by young entrepreneurs,” said Chirag Shamdasani, Ghana Program Partner, Digital Economy at the Mastercard Foundation.

Instagram Started A Test That Puts ‘Suggested Posts’ Before Friends On Your Feed

0

Instagram started a test that puts ‘suggested posts’ before friends on your feed.

After releasing its “suggested post” feature last year, Instagram is now looking to expand it by showing recommended posts in the user’s feed. The Facebook-owned photo-sharing app recently announced that it will start showing suggested posts before posts from friends or accounts a user follows.

Now, for the unaware, Instagram introduced the “suggested posts” feature earlier last year. Since then, the company says that it has received a ton of positive feedback for the same. Hence, Instagram is now starting a test that aims to expand the feature amongst users and show more recommended posts to keep them on the platform a little longer.

Instagram’s suggested post feature usually puts posts based on the users’ interests after every picture and video that are shared by the followed accounts of the users. However, following the initialization of this new test, a “small number” of Instagram users will see recommended posts scattered throughout their news feed.

How will the test help?

With this test, Instagram aims to determine whether users appreciate seeing suggested posts before or in-between other posts shared by their friends and family. If the company sees positive reactions from users, it might release the feature on Instagram globally.

What do you think about the new “suggested post” feature? Would you like to see a recommended post on Instagram before seeing what your friend is up to?

Google Will Let Users Know When Search Results Are Unreliable

0

Google will let users know when search results are unreliable.

We turn to Google for every little thing we come across but not every time what the search results displays are reliable. Sometimes there could be more to what Google shows.

As part of the latest development, Google will let users know when the results around a topic are changing rapidly. Google in a blog post explained that it will suggest users check back the results around a topic that is new. This would particularly be true for breaking news or emerging topics.

When you spot breaking news, you might want to read about it online.

If the news is a follow-up to something that has happened previously, Google will show you links related to it. But if the story is completely new and nothing related to it has ever happened in the past, Google will tell you that the results about the topic are changing rapidly.

Danny Sullivan, Public Liason for Search, Google said in a blogpost :

“While Google Search will always be there with the most useful results we can provide, sometimes the reliable information you’re searching for just isn’t online yet. This can be particularly true for breaking news or emerging topics, when the information that’s published first may not be the most reliable. To help with this, we’ve trained our systems to detect when a topic is rapidly evolving and a range of sources hasn’t yet weighed in. We’ll now show a notice indicating that it may be best to check back later when more information from a wider range of sources might be available,”

Google will start displaying notices like:

“It looks like these results are changing quickly”. The note is followed by a message that says that if this topic is new, it can sometimes take time for results to be added by reliable sources.”

The company said that it has had similar notices since last year to let users know when Google hasn’t been able to find anything that matches the Search. Recently, an About This Result Panel was also announced by Google, which gives people information about sources they find on Google Search and better determine if they’re likely to provide helpful or trustworthy information. The additional context helps people in making a more informed decision about the sites that can be trusted.

Google will initially be rolling out the notices in the United States. The company plans to expand these and other related features over the coming months.

How to start Amazon selling in Europe: All Do’s and Don’ts.

0

The European market attracts many sellers from all over the world. However, the question of how much resources you need to invest in starting selling in Europe is still open. This article will try to find out the leading challenges sellers in Amazon Seller Central Europe encounter when launching products in the EU.

Considering the statistics, the increase in e-commerce will become even more intense in the coming years due to Covid-19 and worldwide online trends. Currently, it’s one of the best and perspective opportunities for entrepreneurs. Having studied the market from top to bottom, it’s apparent that it is most reasonable to start selling on Amazon. Compared to other e-commerce giants, it provides superior advantages as its logistics and order fulfillment.

Among other benefits, selling on Amazon provides access to a vast base of potential buyers in all corners of Europe. European warehousing centers, consolidation of 5 online marketplaces in the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Germany, France are the most important things to which most sellers pay attention when considering Amazon as their leading selling platform.

Why sell in the European Union

If you wonder, “Is Amazon available in Europe?” we are happy to inform you that it is. After the successful launch of Amazon FBA in the United States a few years ago, most consider the possibility of selling in Europe. The European market has significant potential because of the combined population and opened country borders. Currently, it’s the best time to enter Seller Central Europe while it’s not as crowded as the North-American marketplaces. With low competition and services like the Amazon feedback tool, you can quickly dominate almost any niche.

Let’s discuss one of central Amazon’s advantages when it comes to selling online. It’s called Fulfillment by Amazon. It’s a unique program providing Amazon warehouse space and services to third-party sellers on the marketplace. A seller creates a product listing on Amazon’s site and then sends the items to the warehouse according to the FBA program. This way, the tasks of an Amazon seller include marketing, organizing the manufacturing of goods, and shipping to Amazon. The main thing is that it simplifies scaling on all European Amazon marketplaces since Amazon automatically spread products between its warehouses around Europe and ships orders to the country of sale.

What’s unique about Amazon FBA? It’s the level of trust it gives all seller products. Amazon buyer doesn’t even think about whose product is listed for sale, whether it is the marketplace or some seller. The same comes to customer service.

What’s the Best Practice to Start on Amazon FBA Europe

The Amazon marketplace makes life easier for sellers who list their products on this platform. The European fulfillment network (EFN) allows sellers to store their inventory in FBA’s European warehouses (consider what is allowed to be sold through these fulfillment centers). There is an option to trade simultaneously on two, three, or more European markets.

With the European Fulfilment Network (EFN), sellers can access customers on all five European Amazon marketplaces:

  • French;
  • Spanish;
  • German;
  • British;
  • Italian.

The goods that are stored on Euro-FBAs will be sent to a buyer’s country. You can manage orders on all five trading platforms via one seller’s account.

If you want to sell goods to the Europeans or are considering third-party services in the local language, pay attention to the British and German Amazon branches. It’s recommended to take one market at first and only then, when you are like a duck in the water there, proceed to the next ones. For example, suppose you are doing business in the United States or some other English-speaking country. In that case, you should start Amazon selling in Europe in the following market order: Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain.

Product Launch on Amazon in Europe

If you decide to sell your goods in one of the EU countries, you will need to send the batch to one or more European FBA warehouses, depending on the selected program option. You can cooperate with the FBA Amazon warehouses using the Pan European FBA and multi-country inventory. The first option involves the shipping of goods to one Amazon storage location. Then the marketplace independently distributes goods to other European warehouses.

Stages of a product launch on Amazon in European countries:

  1. VAT registration. The subtleties of this procedure depend on the country of your company registration, places where the goods are stored, sold, and the sales volume.
  2. Registration on Amazon. Indicate your VAT number, bank account, phone number, credit card, and EIN.
  3. Create the product listing. After the registration, a seller creates product listings. A separate listing is for each country’s marketplace.
  4. Ship goods to the warehouse. Pay import tax and obtain the EORI number.
  5. Return plan. You must provide an address in the EU country where the goods can be returned.

As for the shipping costs, it all depends on the chosen method of transportation and whether cross-border control will be required.

There are certain distribution centers — warehouses from which goods are shipped to other locations of the company. They also repack, conduct customs clearance and certify the goods.

Final Thoughts

If you consider scaling your online business worldwide and looking for new markets, you definitely should check the Amazon FBA Europe program. It allows sellers to list their products across all European marketplaces and handle the fulfillment routines.

However, a few nuances are depending on your selling model can be challenging when opening a Seller Central Europe account, like registering VAT numbers and submitting VAT returns in a few European countries. The best way for novice sellers is to start selling on a single European marketplace and then expand to others.

New Images and all the rumours about the Galaxy S22 Ultra: gorgeousness or quadruped?

0

What will the Galaxy S22 Ultra look like – and what features does it offer? It still takes a few months until the official dissolution. What you should expect at the beginning of 2022, however, could already show first pictures and a video. Will Samsung succeed in a coup with the Galaxy S22 Ultra in terms of design and features? A rumour overview.

This year, Samsung is reportedly no longer launching a classic high-end smartphone. The Galaxy Note series is on hiatus, and otherwise, only the belated Galaxy S21 FE and foldable devices seem to be on the agenda. LetsGoDigital and the graphic designer Technizo Concept have therefore already taken a look at the Galaxy S22 Ultra. You can see a clip above this article. There are also some exciting product render images. These are based on current rumours about the S22 series.

Design: Huge again, but also again without a camera under display?

The Galaxy S22 Ultra is expected to display a diagonal of 6.81 inches, making it minimally (0.1 inches) more prominent than the current model and by far the largest model in the entire series. In addition, it will probably be the only model with an LTPO screen and adaptive screen rate, which leads to improved battery life. The display should also be more rounded than with the smaller siblings.

It is currently unclear whether Samsung places the front camera under the screen to avoid a punch hole. Nowadays, the tendency seems to be more in the direction that we have to wait even longer for this exciting design feature than we thought in the meantime. According to the tech portal Naver, this is not expected until the second half of 2022. Then probably with the Galaxy Note 22 and the foldable representation.

It will also be exciting on the back. The rumour mill expects new colours. In the Concept, the designer defines black, silver, blue, green and red. The latter option, in particular, looks particularly noble.

Camera: Is Samsung setting a new standard?

Samsung is reportedly exclusively relying on the back of glass on the Galaxy S22 Ultra. With the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+, plastic will probably be the material of choice. The camera module catches the eye. Samsung once again seems to trust in the look of the S21 Ultra. Accordingly, the socket would visually flow again into the device frame. Now would be the substantial primary camera, which is to be part of a cooperation with Olympus. The large sensor supposedly resolves with 200 MP.

Another highlight will also be the camera technology Sensor-Shift, which you already know from the iPhone 12 Pro Max. Here, the photosensor in the camera is movable to compensate for wobble-free images during recording and to enable wobble-free images.

Overall, however, there is relatively little information about the camera to date. Therefore, the graphic designer assumes an ultra-wide angle, two telephoto lenses and laser autofocus for the product rendering. The quartet is arranged squarely, with a flash in the middle.

Galaxy S22 Ultra: Built for gamers?

At the same time, the Galaxy S22 Ultra is said to be Samsung’s first real gaming smartphone. In the conversation is an active cooling. A similar feature already exists in phones explicitly designed for gamers, including the Nubia RedMagic 6. However, such a feature should also be necessary for non-gamers: Some users of an S21 Ultra are said to complain about overheating problems.

An impressive graphics should enable a partnership with AMD. The US company is probably involved in the development of the Chipset Exynos 2200. Among other things, the graphics processor should enable raytracing.

So far, you know the feature more from gaming PCs and the PlayStation 5. With the technology, games look much more realistic through optimized shadows and reflections. In addition, Variable Rate Shading (VRS) should protect the GPU. The chip itself should have 16 GB of ram and up to 1 TB of internal memory.

The battery of the Galaxy S22 Ultra

To the battery of the Galaxy S22 Ultra, there are so far no good rumours. The current model has an energy storage of 5000 mAh. Presumably, the manufacturer remains faithful to that house number.

There is a need for optimization in the charging options. Currently, you charge the top model of the Galaxy S series with 25 watts wired and 15 watts wirelessly. Presumably, Samsung will increase at least the classic charging to 65 watts. However, the necessary charger should only be available as an additional accessory.

Software and accessories

From the factory, Samsung installs securely on Android 12 with the in-house user interface One UI 4.0. The mobile phone should also be compatible with the S Pen; however, it should remain an optional accessory. Currently, it is not known to what extent Samsung is expanding the stylus functions for the premium phone.

Price and release of the Galaxy S22 Ultra

Until the unpacked event of the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+ and Galaxy S22 Ultra, you will probably have to wait until January 2022. Then we not only learn which rumours come true and how close the LetsGoDigital design is to the actual model. But also how expensive the Ultra model is. We expect that Samsung’s pricing policy will remain relatively stable, and the variant with the slightest memory will start again in the range of 1250 euros approximating 160,920 Kenyan shillings.

How do you find the design shown off the Galaxy S22 Ultra? Do the thumbs go up or down?

The best Android weather apps: recommendations From  Techmoran

0

Temperature, rain radar, forecast: Several times a day, we look at the weather forecast on our smartphone, especially in weather conditions such as this week. But which apps are the best and most reliable? We’ll tell you TechMoran’s favourite weather apps.

Most smartphones already have a corresponding weather app ex-works. But the applications of many third-party providers usually offer significantly more functions. Whether WetterOnline, the Warning Weather app of the Kenyan Weather Service or Overdrop, all apps provide additional features, such as widgets, weather radar, or storm warnings. We introduce you to your favourite weather. Stay in our guide to know.

Windy

When it comes to weather, the free Windy app is always my Go to App. The application provides detailed forecasts and data on wind, weather, temperature, waves and some other meteorological categories on a visually very appealing map.

Depending on the category, information such as wind direction and wind speeds with moving particles and colours are highlighted.

When you click on the map, the app then produces a detailed forecast for the desired location for you. In addition, webcams provide you with images that illustrate the weather situation of the last few hours from their point of view.

Overdrop

The app displays the weather with lovingly designed animations, and the user interface is kept in a pleasantly minimalist design.

But not only in terms of design, over drop can outstrip the competition. With three different weather forecast providers, some of which have hyperlocal announcements ready, as well as a whole series of various reports, you can quickly find out what the weather has in store for you tomorrow. Also, for all those who like to beautify their home screen a little, Overdrop offers good possibilities with the widgets.

Hello Weather

The app developers advertise that Hello Weather is not completely overloaded, confusing and filled with advertising compared to other apps.

If you open the Hello Weather app, you will only find two areas. On the one hand, the forecast, here you will find the current weather and an hourly and daily weather forecast. The second point is a live radar with which the weather development can be observed and estimated.

However, not all functions can be used for free here. To remove all restrictions, an in-app purchase must be made.

WetterOnline

you shouldn’t go crazy about what the app says about the weather in two weeks because the forecast changes too often over time. In the range of three days, however, WetterOnline has rarely disappointed. As a commuter, it is convenient to store different places to pack the bag accordingly for the business trip.

The app comes with various widgets for a quick overview, including a chic circular that makes the home screen a bit airier. For allergy sufferers, the app also displays up-to-date information on the pollen flight of various plant species.

YoWindow

the home screen proves to be a real eye-catcher with its animated interface. The animations adapt depending on the current weather situation as well as the day and season.

However, the application is not just for the eye: the forecast is based on national and foreign weather stations, radars and satellite images. Thus, the weather can also be tracked in different places. This not only allows precise predictions but also makes YoWindow a practical application when travelling.

YoWindow can only be used for a fee without restrictions.
