Instagram introduces Archive feature, interestingly, you don’t need to update to access it.

0

The archive feature is best known for emails, Gmail, for instance, let’s you hide away emails that you don’t want to delete. WhatsApp also has an archive feature and it’s brother Instagram is now joining in.

The app has been testing the functionality for a while with just a few pilot users but it now seems like it’s time to release it to the public. However, this feature is unlike the other instagram updates; apparently, if you already have the latest version installed, you won’t be required to update your app again, the archive features will just show up.

To access it, you simply tap the options icon, that is, the three small dots on the top right corner of each photo posted. On the options menu the archive feature will appear as the first one on the list. Tapping this feature will hide the photo from your timeline. This means, the photo will only be visible to you in the archive folder.

In case you change your mind and want to return the photo on your timeline, you simply go to the archive folder by pressing the “rewind” icon in the top right corner of your Profile page, and ‘unarchive’ it.

This update comes after Instagram introduced a new Collections feature which- like Pinterest – let’s you organize photos in different folders such as ‘vacation ideas’, ‘food recipes’ etc. You need to also use a good Instagram name hey. The social network keep finding more places to keep your photos apart from the usual timeline and we applaud the updates.

SkaraBrand Launches to be Nigeria’s Online Store for Furniture

0

Before now, furniture shopping in Nigeria was all about visiting the shop of a furniture maker in your neighbourhood, providing details of your preferred furniture design, and then waiting for days for he/she to make what you requested. Sometimes, if you’re lucky to see already made furnitures which you love in these shops, you just go for it. It’s also challenging to transport really large furnitures.

This is what SkaraBrand wants to attend to, and it’s set to change the way we shop for furniture.

SkaraBrand is a curated online furniture retailer offering affordable, contemporary, house-hold furniture to Nigerians.

From Sofas & Chairs to Table & TV Stands, Beds & Bedsides and Storage, the platform offers a wide range of Furniture & Home Décor items.

All products are said to be made-in-Nigeria, SkaraBrand also claims that furniture offered are made from locally sourced high quality raw materials, designed and hand crafted by Nigerians, cutting across all design styles at affordable price points, without compromising on quality.

Launched by Raymond Umeh in February 2015, SkaraBrand has a goal to disrupt the traditional furniture industry and become the market leader by creating innovative products and a customer-centric approach to customer-service.

According to the founder, “the furniture industry in Nigeria is highly fragmented, grossly undersupplied. We built skarabrand.com to fill this void, by providing an online catalogue where Nigeria’s rapidly growing internet savvy consumer class can review, select and buy a wide variety of affordable, quality furniture and home décor items conveniently, while experiencing superb customer service”.

Skarabrand is the first of its kind in this industry, and with furniture being a need in every Nigerian home, the startup has a potential to scale up and be go-to place for furniture shoppers in Nigeria.

MarketCube Launches to be Nigeria’s eCommerce Platform for Handmade Goods

0

A number of businesses in Nigeria selling fashion items and accessories, from shoes to clothing and jewelery, make these products themselves.  But many of them have no avenue to promote these handmade goods. This led Victor Sylva to launch MarketCube in July 2015.

The platform is a peer-to-peer ecommerce website focused on handmade or vintage items & supplies, as well as unique factory-manufactured items.

MarketCube was launched to create an avenue for creative entrepreneurs to list their handmade goods and reach potential buyers. It connects creative entrepreneurs who sell what they make or curate and shoppers looking for things they can’t find anywhere else.

Sellers on the platform create and customise their online store, and are able to share links to their store with family, friends, and on their social media pages, in order to increase sales. They also handle every single transaction when an order is made, and on each sale they make, MarketCube gets a little commission.

While MarketCube is providing an avenue for entrepreneurs to meet potential buyers, it’s also promote made-in-Nigeria goods, which is highly laudable.

OPPO R11 gets over 500,000 registrations in less than 3 days

0

The OPPO R11 that just got announced the other day has been available for less than 72 hours. In that short span of time, the phone has garnered more than 500,000 registrations on JD.com

Now its important to clarify that registrations are not pre-orders, so no actual money was exchanged. Registrations are usually a way for customers to declare their desire to buy the phone and to be notified immediately it gets in stock. Regardless, five hundred thousand is a huge number. It shows that customers out there are eagerly waiting for the OPPO R 11.

For a while now, the company has been the 4th largest phone manufacturer in sales volume globally and it seems like it will maintain that position. The R 11 is already showing signs of being their new best seller.

As a quick recap, the OPPO R11 comes with an amazing dual rear camera which has 16MP + 20MP setup. The 16MP has a f/1.7 aperture which is big enough for great low light photography. The 20MP is a telephoto lens that supports 2x lossless optical zoom. This is perhaps the feature that attracts most customers to the phone, especially considering its reasonable price of $440.

The phone is powered by the new Snapdragon 660, 4GB RAM and a huge 4000mAh battery equipped with VOOC fast charge technology. To get the full detailed specifications, make sure to read our comprehensive launch article

Leak: Google Pixel 2 redesign is the most beautiful bezelless phone yet

0

The Google Pixel and Pixel XL were one of the best phones of 2016. The premium pixel line came to replace the affordable Nexus brand. Google justified the price increase with high end specifications, new design and class leading camera. In fact they were the highest rated camera phones in DxO Mark for their stunning Auto HDR technology..

The Google Pixel 2, which is set to be launched in the next 3-4 months, just got its specifications leaked; this made it possible to create mockups designs. It seems the search giant decided to follow the trend started by Samsung Galaxy S8, and adopted by the LG G6 as well as the upcoming iPhone 8; an edge to edge screen with minimal top and bottom bezels. I have to admit it is the most beautiful flat bezelless design I have seen so far. This design update will be most welcome considering that the biggest flaw of the Pixel line was the really big top and bottom bezels, bigger than those on the iPhone.

According to the leak by GFX Benchmark, the screen will change to accommodate the new design. At 18:9, the aspect ratio is close to what the LG G6 and the Galaxy S8 offer. The resolution is now 25601312, you might notice that it is slightly lower than last years 25601440 resolution. However, the advantages you will get will include a compact phone, yet having a bigger screen at 5.6 inch, and still manage to be more comfortable in one-hand use. With a pixel density of over 500 ppi, it will be impossible to notice the resolution drop with a naked eye. In comparison, the Galaxy S8 maintains a 1080p Full HD screen resolution to have a longer battery life on its 1440p Quad HD screen and not many even notice a difference.

Other specs of the sequel remain high end; they include a Snapdragon 835 with 4GB RAM. The selfie camera is quoted to be 7MP which is a one MP lesser than the previous generation. Its  rear camera remains the same resolution at 12MP, but given it’s chart topping performance last year, no one would complain if they left the sensor unchanged.

The storage is indicated as 100GB. I assume that the actual space is 128GB with the system occupying 28GB.

All we can do now is wait for the next couple of months for the official launch. It is likely that more leaks of these phone will pop up in the coming days.

DropBuddies is Providing On-Demand Delivery Service

0

DropBuddies is an an online crowdsourced errand running and on-demand delivery platform which claims to revolutionize logistics by connecting customers with local couriers, who purchase deliver goods from any restaurant or store in a city, and also help with errand runs within a city.

Local couriers are notified of delivery requests within their locality by push notifications through an app specially built for DropBuddies. Within the app, they can view all delivery requests within their area and accept whichever they are interested in. When a delivery is accepted, the user is immediately introduced to their courier with a photo, details on how many deliveries they have made and their current rating inside the app. The courier then facilitates the purchase and delivery of whatever it is that the user needs.

DropBuddies also allows for custom requests. For example, in a case when you forgot something or would like something picked up for you from a local business not listed on the platform. With information as simple as the location and contact person, the platform leverages on its fleet of couriers to help you pickup and deliver just about anything all within a few clicks of a mobile app.

Anyone can also sign up on the platform to begin taking deliveries, and DropBuddies promises to enable them choose their own hours, and decide if and when they’ll be available for deliveries.

The platform was launched by Oluwatomi David Solanke in  July 2015, and it’s providing a real solution, especially for busy professionals who are struggling to combine their busy schedule with going out to shop.

Kennel Pride Want to Help you Provide all your Dog Needs

0

Sometimes, paying attention to that non-human member of your family doesn’t just happen. And many times, you outsource the service to someone else for times when you’re away or really busy.

Kennel Pride wants to help you out!

Enioluwa Odunjo launched Kennel Pride in 2016, to help pet owners with all needs for their dogs. From Dog Training, Veterinary Home Service, Vacation Pet-Sitting, Dog Grooming, Pooper-Scooper Cleaning Services, Dog Walking, Daily Feeding and Care, Kennel Construction, Dog Stud Services, etc.

There is also an online store for dog lovers to buy their favourite species of dogs, and also for pet owners to easy order their dog food from the comfort of their homes.

According to the founder, “we understand how difficult it can get sometimes taking care of a non-human member of the family. That’s why we offer all the essentials to make sure your special friend is healthy and happy”.

Kennel Pride is bringing veterinary services online, and the idea is highly laudable. This is the first Nigerian startup we’ve seen tread this uncharted area, and we’ll like to see how Nigerians embrace the service.

Naijaeasyfix Wants to Help You Hire the Services of Artisans

0

The search for artisans to help with domestic work and fixes around the house can be challenging, and seeing that demand for this is on the increase, a lot of startups have recently been launched to address the need.

Part of the lot is Naijaeasyfix. The platform was launched by Nicholas Dunu in September 2015 to connect users to artisans offering various services, including Plumbers, Electricians, Electrical Engineers, Carpenters, Furniture Makers, Aluminum Carpenters, Tilers, Screeders, Painters, Welders, Metal workers, Cleaners, POP & Ceiling workers,

Artisans sign up on the platform, and for users to access them, they register and search for artisans based on their location and service needed. Unique about Naijaeasyfix is the fact that users can view profiles of artisans and contact them directly. They are also able to rate an artisan based on work done, and make it easier for the next user to hire the best artisan.

According to the founder, “we are a growing online community of Building & Interior Artisans and Professionals that intends to bridge the Information gap between Users/Clients and Building Construction workers by creating an online platform where Artisans and Professional Building workers can be sourced by their vocation, Skill level and location. Everyday, we strive to make finding domestic artisans and workmen in Nigeria as easy as the click of a button.”

With millions of Nigerians making use of the service of artisans every single day, startups that have chosen to focus on this industry are solving real problems, and in no time, would contribute to the expansion of Nigeria’s repair service industry.

Meet the new OPPO R11 Plus, with telephoto dual camera and the new Snapdragon 660

0

Meet the OPPO R11 Plus, it’s a bigger version of the OPPO R11 released last month. Most of the specifications of the two phones are similar apart from screen size and battery.

The OPPO R11 Plus has a 6 inch Full HD AMOLED screen. It will be powered by the newly announced Snapdragon 660 aided by 6GB RAM and 64GB expandable storage. The system will be ran by Android 7.1 Nougat with OPPO’s Color OS on top.

The most amazing feature of the R11 Plus is the camera. In the front, it will have whopping 20 MP shooter with f/2.0 aperture size and support for bokeh effect.

The rear cameras are even more incredible. They compose of a dual sensor with 16MP + 20MP . The 16MP is the powerful IMX398, it has a very wide f/1.7 aperture, perfect for low light shots. It is the very same one used in the popular OPPO R9S and the new F3 Plus. On the other hand, the 20MP is the IMX 350, a telephoto lens with 2X optical zoom and a f/2.0 aperture. The two shooters combine to form natural bokeh effect photos that are very trendy right now. Portrait mode is also supported.

As usual, OPPO fitted the phone with a beautiful metallic body and slim measurements of only 7.8mm thin. Somehow they managed to fit a 4000mAh battery in there. The charging times are extremely fast, thanks to the VOOC fast charging technology that ensures 75% of the battery is filled in only 30 minutes, one of the fastest in the industry.

The price and availability of the phone is still unclear for now. In case you are wondering, the OPPO R11 shares all the specs apart from having a smaller 5 inch screen and 2990mAh battery. It comes as a more compact and cheaper substitute to this new R11 Plus.

Skype also clones Snap Chat, introduces new UI and features.

0

Skype app has recently received a major UI and features update. Unfortunately, the features added are barely original. It seems Skype hopped on the Snap Chat cloning bandwagon too.

Let’s start with the UI changes. The app now has 3 main tabs. The center one is labeled “Chat” and as the name suggests, it’s the central place for all your conversation lists with friends.

The tab on the left is labeled “Highlights” its a rip off of Snap Chat stories A.K.A WhatsApp’s “My Status” feature. All your pics and videos of the day are posted here for your friends to see. The functionality is very similar to the original Snap Chat stories feature.

The last tab is called capture. This is where the user can take photos and videos for sending to friends or simply adding them to the highlights feed. This tab also gets ‘inspiration’ from Snap Chat in the form of stickers and drawings.

Apart from the tabs, the new Skype has a ‘Find panel’, its a central place to use bots to get information on different topics. For instance, Expedia bot will get you information on traveling, BigOven will do the same on food recipes. Bots have been the trend lately, we are glad to see Skype adopting them, Telegram already did and they are getting a lot of traction.

Currently this Skype update is only available on Android. Other platforms such as Apple iOS will get them soon. Windows Phone won’t be so lucky since Microsoft just announced it will be retiring Skype on that platform. It is quite ironic considering that Microsoft owns Skype and it is not providing it in its mobile OS, but reports suggest that the company couldn’t justify spending more resources on that dying platform.

2kMarket is an eCommerce Platform Offering Nigerians Products Below N3000

0

The eCommerce market in Nigeria is highly saturated, and with many new players struggling to gain visibility, Kelechi Nwaozuzu and Emeka Nwadibie found a way around it by carving out a niche for themselves with 2kmarket.

It’s never an easy one for buyers, when it comes to going from one store to the other either online or offline, just to find a product within their budget. 2market comes as a relief, especially for buyers seeking products that won’t eat deep into their pockets. The online marketplace offers a platform where sellers whose products cost N2999 and below can sell those products to a wide range of buyers.

Founded in the January 2017, product categories on the platform range from books, to food and drinks, home and interiors, mobile accessories, male and female fashion items, etc.

According to the founders, “We reach out to sellers with products within our price range and bring them on board. We also allow these sellers (be they local sellers with ingenuous products or sellers who already trade online) to reach out to us and sell on our platform.

We are inspired by the struggles of the everyday Nigerian buyer and seller especially since Nigeria went into recession. It is our desire to provide quality and pocket friendly items to buyers and a competitive platform for sellers.”

With the current economy in Nigeria, a lot of Nigerians would embrace a market where they can purchase products at a cheap price. This, combined with the fact that 2kmarket has carved out a niche from a market with many established players would definitely set it apart from all others.

MyUniHostels.com Launches to Help Nigerian Students Find Accommodation

0

For university students in Nigeria, accommodation is one thing that’s constantly a pain in the neck. This is especially so for students that choose to, or have no option, but reside outside the school’s campus. Having to search for available houses that are up for rent, while trying to complete school activities is an experience students would do anything, and pay any amount just escape from.

The platform enables students to search and book for off-campus students’ accommodation from the comfort of their computers and  smartphones. House owners who have vacant spaces that’ll suit the need of a student can also register on the platform and list their properties.

According to the founder, “We provide speed, ease and convenience in your search for a place to live while studying”.

He went further to hinge the potential of the business on the ever increasing students’ population, which is confronted with limited on-campus accommodation facilities across Nigeria’s tertiary institutions. This can of course give MyUniHostels a chance in the online real-estate space. But, all other real-estate eCommerce platforms still remain competitors, as they list all kinds of properties, including those that suit the need of students.

Tembe.com.ng is a platform contributing to this fight by providing local manufacturers an avenue to sell their products, without having to compete for attention with foreign-made goods.

The platform was designed exclusively to allow Nigerians buy and sell made-in-Nigeria goods. Categories on the platform range from gadgets, to fashion and art.

Eazyhire Launches to Allow You Hire, Lease and Rent Anything

0

We make purchases all the time, and end up having products/items we don’t use scattered around our houses. But with Eazyhire, we would not only be reducing our spending, but also putting a stop to buying products we wouldn’t be needing after a one-time use.

Eazyhire wants to allow you rent and hire products/services.

Launched by Joshua Okpata, the platform allows individuals and corporate bodies make request to hire, lease or rent anything and have it delivered. People can also put up items they rarely use for lease and get paid for it.

The primary focus of Eazyhire is vehicles, equipment, electronics, aircrafts and support services.

For users who want to rent or hire, they fill a request for what they want, make payments, and the item is picked up and delivered to their addresses.

Alongside the hire/rent service, there’s also EazyRunner, an errand service currently operating in Lagos and Abuja to help you run errands that you would rather have someone else do for you either for time, availability or convenience constraints.

According to the team, “We are more than a courier service, we are your everyday messenger, which means we will greet, smile, talk, sign and even yell if you need us to. We give you On – demand response, affordable prices and 100% safety guaranteed. We are the easiest and fastest way to get a perfect score on your to–do–list”.

We really don’t have to buy all the time. Eazyhire’s idea is laudable, one that Nigerians would be quick to embrace.
